1 As Christ has undergone bodily suffering, you too should arm yourselves with the same conviction, thatanyone who has undergone bodily suffering has broken with sin,	1 Тому, отже, що Христос страждав тілом, ви теж озбройтеся тією самою думкою, а саме: хто страждав тілом, той перестав грішити,
2 because for the rest of life on earth that person is ruled not by human passions but only by the wil ofGod.	2 щоб решту часу жити, в тілі, не за людськими похотями, а за волею Божою.
3 You spent quite long enough in the past living the sort of life that gentiles choose to live, behaving in adebauched way, giving way to your passions, drinking to excess, having wild parties and drunken orgies andsacrilegiously worshipping false gods.	3 Бо доволі часу минуло на виконуванні волі поган, тих, що віддавалися розпусті, пристрастям, пияцтву, гульні, напійкам та мерзенній службі ідолів.
4 So people are taken aback that you no longer hurry off with them to join this flood which is rushingdown to ruin, and then abuse you for it.	4 У тому вони дивуються, що ви не рветеся разом із ними до того самого багна розпусти, тож хулять.
5 They wil have to answer for it before the judge who is to judge the living and the dead.	5 Але за це вони здадуть рахунок тому, хто готов судити живих і мертвих.
6 And this was why the gospel was brought to the dead as wel , so that, though in their bodies they hadundergone the judgement that faces al humanity, in their spirit they might enjoy the life of God.	6 На те бо й мертвим проповідувано благовість, щоб, суджені за людською волею в тілі, вони жили у Бозі духом.
7 The end of all things is near, so keep your minds calm and sober for prayer.	7 Кінець усьому близько. Будьте мудрі й тверезі, здатні до молитов.
8 Above al preserve an intense love for each other, since love covers over many a sin.	8 Насамперед майте велику любов один до одного, бо любов силу гріхів покриває!
9 Welcome each other into your houses without grumbling.	9 Будьте гостинні один до одного — без нарікання.
10 Each one of you has received a special grace, so, like good stewards responsible for all these variedgraces of God, put it at the service of others.	10 Служіть один одному, кожен тим даром, що його прийняв, як добрі домоуправителі різноманітної Божої благодаті.
11 If anyone is a speaker, let it be as the words of God, if anyone serves, let it be as in strength grantedby God; so that in everything God may receive the glory, through Jesus Christ, since to him alone belong alglory and power for ever and ever. Amen.	11 Говоріть лише у глузді Божих слів, служіть лише у дусі тієї сили, яку дає Бог, щоб у всьому прославлявся Бог через Ісуса Христа, якому слава й сила по вічні віки! Амінь.
12 My dear friends, do not be taken aback at the testing by fire which is taking place among you, asthough something strange were happening to you;	12 Любі, не дивуйтеся тій пожежі, що у вас постає, вам на пробу, немов би з вами діялось щось дивне,
13 but in so far as you share in the sufferings of Christ, be glad, so that you may enjoy a much greatergladness when his glory is revealed.	13 але, тією мірою, якою берете участь у Христових муках, радійте, щоб і в славному його з’явленні раділи та веселились.
14 If you are insulted for bearing Christ's name, blessed are you, for on you rests the Spirit of God, theSpirit of glory.	14 Щасливі ви, як вас ганьблять за Христове ім’я, бо Дух слави і Божий на вас покоїться!
15 None of you should ever deserve to suffer for being a murderer, a thief, a criminal or an informer;	15 Ніхто з вас нехай не страждає як душогубець або злодій, або злочинець, або як той, хто встряває в чужі справи.
16 but if any one of you should suffer for being a Christian, then there must be no shame but thanksgiving to God for bearing this name.	16 Коли ж — як християнин, нехай не соромиться, а прославляє Бога цим ім’ям.
17 The time has come for the judgement to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, whatwil be the end for those who refuse to believe God's gospel?	17 Бо настав час почати суд від Божого дому; коли ж він від нас розпочинається, то який кінець буде тих, які не коряться Божій благовісті?
18 If it is hard for the upright to be saved, what wil happen to the wicked and to sinners?	18 І коли праведник ледве спасеться, то грішник і безбожник де з’явиться?
19 So even those whom God allows to suffer should commit themselves to a Creator who is trustworthy,and go on doing good.	19 Тому й ті, які страждають з Божого зізволення, нехай у доброчинності довірять вірному Творцеві свої душі.
