Prima lettera di Giovanni 3

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Guardate quale attestato di amore ci ha dato il Padre nel farci chiamare ad essere figlioli di Dio. Per questo il mondo non conosce noi; perchè non conosce lui.	1 You must see what great love the Father has lavished on us by letting us be cal ed God's children --which is what we are! The reason why the world does not acknowledge us is that it did not acknowledge him.
2 Carissimi, ora noi siamo figli di Dio; ma non s'è manifestato ancora quel che saremo. Sappiamo che, quando si manifesterà saremo simili a lui, perchè lo vedremo quale egli è.	2 My dear friends, we are already God's children, but what we shall be in the future has not yet beenrevealed. We are wel aware that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he real yis.
3 E chiunque ha questa speranza in lui, si santifica, come anche lui è santo.	3 Whoever treasures this hope of him purifies himself, to be as pure as he is.
4 Chiunque fa peccato commette iniquità, e il peccato è iniquità.	4 Whoever sins, acts wickedly, because al sin is wickedness.
5 Or sapete che Gesù è apparso per togliere i nostri peccati e che non v'è peccato in lui.	5 Now you are well aware that he has appeared in order to take sins away, and that in him there is no sin.
6 Chiunque dimora in lui non pecca, e chi pecca non l'ha nè visto, nè conosciuto.	6 No one who remains in him sins, and whoever sins has neither seen him nor recognised him.
7 Figliolini, nessuno vi seduca: chi pratica la giustizia è giusto, come Cristo è giusto;	7 Children, do not let anyone lead you astray. Whoever acts uprightly is upright, just as he is upright.
8 ma chi fa il peccato, egli è dal diavolo perchè il diavolo pecca fin da principio. Il Figlio di Dio è apparso appunto per distruggere le opere del diavolo.	8 Whoever lives sinfully belongs to the devil, since the devil has been a sinner from the beginning. Thiswas the purpose of the appearing of the Son of God, to undo the work of the devil.
9 Chiunque è nato da Dio non commette il peccato, perchè tiene in sè il germe vitale di Dio, e non può peccare, perchè è nato da Dio.	9 No one who is a child of God sins because God's seed remains in him. Nor can he sin, because he is achild of God.
10 In questo si distinguono i figlioli di Dio e i figlioli del diavolo: chiunque non pratica la giustizia non è da Dio, così pure chi non ama il proprio fratello.	10 This is what distinguishes the children of God from the children of the devil: whoever does not liveuprightly and does not love his brother is not from God.
11 E il messaggio che voi avete sentito fin da principio è questo: che vi amiate l'un l'altro;	11 This is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we must love one another,
12 non facendo come Caino, che era dal maligno ed uccise il suo fratello. E perchè lo uccise? Perchè le sue opere eran malvage e quelle del suo fratello eran giuste.	12 not to be like Cain, who was from the Evil One and murdered his brother. And why did he murder hisbrother? Because his own actions were evil and his brother's upright.
13 Non vi stupite, fratelli, se il mondo vi odia.	13 Do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you.
14 Noi sappiamo d'essere stati trasportati dalla morte alla vita, perchè amiamo i fratelli. Chi non ama resta nella morte.	14 We are wel aware that we have passed over from death to life because we love our brothers.Whoever does not love, remains in death.
15 Chiunque odia il proprio fratello è omicida; e voi sapete che nessuno omicida ha dimorante in se stesso la vita eterna.	15 Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you are well aware that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
16 Da questo abbiamo conosciuto la carità di Dio: dall'avere egli data la sua vita per noi; ed anche noi dobbiamo dare la vita per i fratelli.	16 This is the proof of love, that he laid down his life for us, and we too ought to lay down our lives for ourbrothers.
17 Se uno avrà dei beni di questo mondo e, vedendo il suo fratello nel bisogno, gli chiuderà il proprio cuore, come potrebbe la carità di Dio abitare in lui?	17 If anyone is wel -off in worldly possessions and sees his brother in need but closes his heart to him,how can the love of God be remaining in him?
18 Figliolini miei, non amiamo a parole e colla lingua, ma colle opere e in verità.	18 Children, our love must be not just words or mere talk, but something active and genuine.
19 Da questo conosciamo di essere dalla verità e potremo rassicurare i nostri cuori dinanzi a Dio,	19 This will be the proof that we belong to the truth, and it wil convince us in his presence,
20 perchè se il nostro cuore ci condanna, Dio è maggiore del nostro cuore e sa tutto;	20 even if our own feelings condemn us, that God is greater than our feelings and knows al things.
21 se poi il nostro cuore non ci condanna, carissimi, possiamo aver fiducia dinanzi a Dio,	21 My dear friends, if our own feelings do not condemn us, we can be fearless before God,
22 e riceveremo da lui tutto ciò che domandiamo, perchè osserviamo i suoi comandamenti e facciamo le cose che gli son gradite.	22 and whatever we ask we shal receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what isacceptable to him.
23 Or questo è il suo comandamento: che crediamo nel nome del suo Figliolo Gesù Cristo, e ci amiamo l'un l'altro, come egli ci ha comandato.	23 His commandment is this, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and that weshould love one another as he commanded us.
24 E chi osserva i suoi comandamenti sta in Dio e Dio in lui, e che egli sta in noi lo sappiamo dallo Spirito che Egli ci ha dato.	24 Whoever keeps his commandments remains in God, and God in him. And this is the proof that heremains in us: the Spirit that he has given us.
