Prima lettera a Timoteo 2

1 Raccomando dunque, prima di tutto, che si facciano suppliche, orazioni, voti, ringraziamenti per tutti gli uomini:	1 First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone,
2 pei re e per le autorità costituite, affinchè possiamo menare una vita pacifica e tranquilla con tutta pietà e onestà.	2 for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity.
3 E questa è cosa buona e gradita nel cospetto del Salvatore nostro Dio,	3 This is good and pleasing to God our savior,
4 il quale vuole che tutti gli uomini si salvino e giungano alla conoscenza della verità.	4 who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.
5 Or v'è un solo Dio, un solo mediatore tra Dio e gli uomini, l'uomo Cristo Gesù,	5 For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and the human race, Christ Jesus, himself human,
6 il quale diede se stesso in redenzione per tutti, attestato a suo tempo,	6 who gave himself as ransom for all. This was the testimony at the proper time.
7 e per attestar di lui io sono stato costituito predicatore e apostolo (dico la verità, non mentisco), dottore delle Genti nella fede e nella verità.	7 For this I was appointed preacher and apostle (I am speaking the truth, I am not lying), teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
8 Voglio dunque che gli uomini preghino in ogni luogo, alzando mani pure, senza ira, nè dispute.	8 It is my wish, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or argument.
9 Così pure voglio che le donne si vestano in modo decente, con verecondia e modestia, non riccioli, oro e perle e vesti preziose,	9 Similarly, (too,) women should adorn themselves with proper conduct, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hairstyles and gold ornaments, or pearls, or expensive clothes,
10 ma come s'addice a donne che fan professione di pietà, con opere buone.	10 but rather, as befits women who profess reverence for God, with good deeds.
11 La donna impari in silenzio con perfetta sottomissione.	11 A woman must receive instruction silently and under complete control.
12 Non permetto alla donna d'insegnare, nè di comandare all'uomo, ma deve stare in silenzio.	12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. She must be quiet.
13 Fu infatti prima creato Adamo e poi Èva;	13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
14 e non fu sedotto Adamo, ma la donna fu sedotta fino alla prevaricazione.	14 Further, Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed.
15 Ma pure si salverà diventando madre, se rimarrà nella fede e nella carità e nella santità con modestia.	15 But she will be saved through motherhood, provided women persevere in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.
