Siracide 12

BIBBIA TINTORI	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Se tu fai del bene, guarda a chi lo fai, ed avrai molta riconoscenza pei tuoi benefìzi.	1 If thou do good, know to whom thou dost it, and there shall be much thanks for thy good deeds.
2 Fa del bene al giusto, e ne avrai grande ricompensa, se non da lui, certamente dal Signore.	2 Do good to the just, and thou shalt find great recompense: and if not of him, assuredly of the Lord.
3 Non avrà bene chi persevera nel male e non fa elemosina, perchè l'Altissimo odia i peccatori ed usa misericordia coi penitenti.	3 For there is no good for him that is always occupied in evil, and that giveth no alms: for the Highest hateth sinners, and hath mercy on the penitent.
4 Dona al misericordioso, e non accogliere il peccatore, agli empi e ai peccatori (Dio) darà il castigo, serbandoli pel giorno della vendetta.	4 Give to the merciful and uphold not the sinner: God will repay vengeance to the ungodly and to sinners, and keep them against the day of vengeance.
5 Dona a colui che è buono, e non ricevere il peccatore.	5 Give to the good, and receive not a sinner.
6 Fa del bene all'umile, e non donare all'empio. Impedisci che gli sia dato del pane, chè per esso non diventi più potente di te.	6 Do good to the humble, and give not to the ungodly: hold back thy bread, and give it not to him, lest thereby he overmaster thee.
7 Infatti tu avrai doppio male per ogni bene che gli avrai fatto; perchè anche l'Altissimo odia i peccatori e ripaga coi castighi i malvagi.	7 For thou shalt receive twice as much evil for all the good thou shalt have done to him: for the Highest also hateth sinners, and will repay vengeance to the ungodly.
8 Non si conosce nella prosperità l'amico, e non resterà nascosto nella avversità il nemico.	8 A friend shall not be known in prosperity, and an enemy shall not be hidden in adversity.
9 Quando un uomo è felice, i suoi nemici son nella tristezza, quando è nell'avversità, si conosce chi è suo amico.	9 In the prosperity of a man, his enemies are grieved: and a friend is known in his adversity.
10 Non ti fidar mai del tuo nemico, perchè, come rame, fa ruggine la sua malizia.	10 Never trust thy enemy: for as a brass pot his wickedness rusteth:
11 Anche se si umilia e si curva, stai attento e guardati da lui;	11 ,11Though he humble himself and go crouching, yet take good heed and beware of him.
12 non te lo mettere accanto, non lo far sedere alla tua destra, se non vuoi che egli, rivolgendosi al tuo posto, cerchi il tuo seggio, e che tu troppo tardi abbia a riconoscere (la verità delle) mie parole, e a gemere (ricordando) le mie parole.	12 Set him not by thee, neither let him sit on thy right hand, lest he turn into thy place, and seek to take thy seat: and at the last thou acknowledge my words, and be pricked with my sayings.
13 Chi avrà compassione di un incantatore morso dal serpente, e di tutti quelli che si accostano alle belve? Così avverrà a chi s'accompagna con un iniquo, e si trova coinvolto nei delitti di lui.	13 Who will pity an enchanter struck by a serpent, or any that come near wild beasts? so is it with him that keepeth company with a wicked man, and is involved in his sins.
14 Per un'ora egli resterà con te, ma se tu cadrai in basso, non resterà più.	14 For an hour he will abide with thee: but if thou begin to decline, he will not endure it.
15 Il nemico ha il dolce sulle labbra, ma nel suo cuore tende insidie per seppellirti nella fossa.	15 An enemy speaketh sweetly with his lips, but in his heart he lieth in wait, to throw thee into a pit.
16 Il nemico avrà le lacrime sugli occhi, ma, se gli capita l'occasione, sarà insaziabile di sangue.	16 An enemy weepeth with his eyes: but if he find an opportunity he will not be satisfied with blood:
17 E se ti accadrà del male, egli vi si troverà per il primo.	17 And if evils come upon thee, thou shalt find him there first.
18 Il nemico avrà le lacrime sugli occhi, e, come per darti aiuto, scaverà ai tuoi piedi la fossa.	18 An enemy hath tears in his eyes, and while he pretendeth to help thee, will undermine thy feet.
19 Scoterà il capo, batterà le mani, e con molte maledizioni muterà faccia.	19 He will shake his head, and clap his hands, and whisper much, and change his countenance.
