1 La sapienza solleva la testa al povero e lo fa sedere in mezzo ai grandi.	1 The poor man's wisdom lifts his head high and sets him among princes.
2 Non lodare un uomo per la sua bellezza e non condannarlo per la sua apparenza.	2 Praise not a man for his looks; despise not a man for his appearance.
3 Piccola è l'ape tra i volatili, ma il suo frutto è il più dolce di tutti.	3 Least is the bee among winged things, but she reaps the choicest of all harvests.
4 Non inorgoglirti per gli abiti che porti e non esaltarti nel giorno della gloria; perché le opere del Signore sono imprevedibili e restano nascoste agli occhi degli uomini.	4 Mock not the worn cloak and jibe at no man's bitter day: For strange are the works of the LORD, hidden from men his deeds.
5 Molti tiranni sedettero a terra e lo sconosciuto cinse la corona.	5 The oppressed often rise to a throne, and some that none would consider wear a crown.
6 Molti sovrani caddero nel disonore e dalla gloria passarono in mano altrui.	6 The exalted often fall into utter disgrace; the honored are given into enemy hands.
7 Non condannare senza previo esame, prima rifletti e poi giudica.	7 Before investigating, find no fault; examine first, then criticize.
8 Non rispondere prima d'aver ascoltato, non interrompere il discorso d'un altro.	8 Before hearing, answer not, and interrupt no one in the middle of his speech.
9 Non t'infervorare in ciò che non ti riguarda, non t'immischiare nelle contese dei peccatori.	9 Dispute not about what is not your concern; in the strife of the arrogant take no part.
10 Figlio, non occuparti di molti affari: con molti impegni, dovrai fare imbrogli; se insegui molto, non giungi alla meta, e non puoi sfuggire se vuoi scappare.	10 My son, why increase your cares, since he who is avid for wealth will not be blameless? Even if you run after it, you will never overtake it; however you seek it, you will not find it.
11 C'è chi si stanca, s'affatica e s'affretta, e ciò nonostante resta sempre indietro.	11 One may toil and struggle and drive, and fall short all the more.
12 E c'è chi è lento, bisognoso d'aiuto, privo di forza e pieno di povertà, ma il Signore lo riguarda benigno e lo solleva dalla sua miseria;	12 Another goes his way a weakling and a failure, with little strength and great misery-- Yet the eyes of the LORD look favorably upon him; he raises him free of the vile dust,
13 perciò tiene alta la testa e molti si meravigliano di lui.	13 Lifts up his head and exalts him to the amazement of the many.
14 Il bene e il male, la vita e la morte, la povertà e la ricchezza vengono dal Signore.	14 Good and evil, life and death, poverty and riches, are from the LORD.
15 La sapienza, l'intelligenza e la conoscenza della legge vengono dal Signore, come pure l'amore e la pratica delle opere buone.	15 Wisdom and understanding and knowledge of affairs, love and virtuous paths are from the LORD.
16 L'errore e l'oscurità sono creati con i peccatori, quanti godono nel male invecchiano nel male.	16 Error and darkness were formed with sinners from their birth, and evil grows old with evildoers.
17 Il dono del Signore ai suoi devoti rimane per sempre, la sua compiacenza appiana loro la via.	17 The LORD'S gift remains with the just; his favor brings continued success.
18 C'è chi si arricchisce tra privazioni e risparmi, ma questa è la sua ricompensa:	18 A man may become rich through a miser's life, and this is his allotted reward:

21 Non ammirare le opere del peccatore, confida nel Signore e prosegui la tua fatica, perché è facile agli occhi del Signore far ricco improvvisamente il povero.	21 Admire not how sinners live, but trust in the LORD and wait for his light; For it is easy with the LORD suddenly, in an instant, to make a poor man rich.
22 La benedizione del Signore è premio del giusto, all'improvviso questi avrà successo.	22 God's blessing is the lot of the just man, and in due time his hopes bear fruit.
23 Non dire: "Che bisogno ho io? Che altro mi manca ancora?".	23 Say not: "What do I need? What further pleasure can be mine?"
24 Non dire: "Non mi manca nulla, in quale sventura potrò incorrere?".	24 Say not: "I am independent. What harm can come to me now?"
25 Nel benessere si dimentica la miseria, e nella miseria non si ricorda il benessere.	25 The day of prosperity makes one forget adversity; the day of adversity makes one forget prosperity.

29 Non introdurre chiunque nella tua casa, perché son molti gli agguati dell'imbroglione.	29 Bring not every man into your house, for many are the snares of the crafty one;
30 Come pernice adescatrice nella sua gabbia e come sentinella che attende la caduta, così è il cuore dell'uomo superbo:	30 Though he seem like a bird confined in a cage, yet like a spy he will pick out the weak spots.
31 sta in agguato, scambia il bene per male, e biasima le cose buone.	31 The talebearer turns good into evil; with a spark he sets many coals afire.
32 Dalla scintilla il fuoco s'espande nei carboni, così il peccatore anela al sangue.	32 The evil man lies in wait for blood, and plots against your choicest possessions.
33 Guàrdati dal malvagio che genera guai, perché non rovini per sempre il tuo nome.	33 Avoid a wicked man, for he breeds only evil, lest you incur a lasting stain.
34 Con un estraneo in casa avrai il disordine, per lui sarai in disaccordo con i tuoi.	34 Lodge a stranger with you, and he will subvert your course, and make a stranger of you to your own household.
