| 1 - Del resto, o fratelli miei, rallegratevi nel Signore. Scrivervi le stesse cose non è grave a me, ma per voi è questione di sicurezza. | 1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is not irksome to me, and is safe for you. |
| 2 Guardatevi dai cani, guardatevi dai cattivi operai, guardatevi dai mutilati. | 2 Look out for the dogs, look out for the evil-workers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh. |
| 3 Giacchè noi siamo i veri circoncisi, noi che allo Spirito di Dio prestiamo culto, e ci gloriamo in Gesù Cristo, nè poniamo fiducia nella carne. | 3 For we are the true circumcision, who worship God in spirit, and glory in Christ Jesus, and put no confidence in the flesh. |
| 4 Sebbene io ho di che confidare anche nella carne; se altri pensa dover confidare nella carne, io tanto più; | 4 Though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If any other man thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: |
| 5 circonciso l'ottavo giorno, della schiatta d'Israele, della tribù di Beniamino, Ebreo figlio di Ebrei, rispetto alla Legge Fariseo, | 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; as to the law a Pharisee, |
| 6 rispetto allo zelo persecutore della Chiesa, rispetto alla giustizia che sta nella Legge, vissuto irreprensibile. | 6 as to zeal a persecutor of the church, as to righteousness under the law blameless. |
| 7 Ma quelli che erano per me guadagni, io li stimai per via di Cristo perdite. | 7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. |
| 8 Sicuro, credo che tutte le cose siano una perdita di fronte alla preminenza della cognizione di Cristo Gesù Signor mio; per amor del quale mi son privato di tutto, e tutto tengo in conto di spazzatura, allo scopo di guadagnarmi Cristo, | 8 Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as refuse, in order that I may gain Christ |
| 9 e per poter esser trovato in Lui, non ritenendo come mia la giustizia che vien dalla Legge, ma quella che si ha per la fede di Cristo, quella giustizia che vien da Dio, basata sulla fede, | 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, based on law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith; |
| 10 affine di conoscere lui e l'efficacia della sua risurrezione, e la comunanza dei suoi patimenti, conformandomi alla morte di Lui, | 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, |
| 11 se in qualche modo giunga ancor io alla risurrezione di tra i morti. | 11 that if possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. |
| 12 Non che io abbia già ricevuto [il premio], o che già mi sia reso perfetto, ma sto dietro, se mai riesca ad afferrare quello, per cui sono stato anch'io afferrato da Cristo Gesù. | 12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. |
| 13 O fratelli, non ancora credo di aver io afferrato, ma [faccio] una cosa sola; dimenticando quel che mi è dietro le spalle, e slanciandomi alle cose davanti, vo dietro al segno | 13 Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, |
| 14 per raggiungere il premio della superna vocazione di Dio in Cristo Gesù. | 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. |
| 15 Quanti dunque siamo perfetti, questi sentimenti nutriamo; e se in qualcosa voi pensate diversamente, anche su ciò Dio vi rivelerà, | 15 Let those of us who are mature be thus minded; and if in anything you are otherwise minded, God will reveal that also to you. |
| 16 solo che al punto a cui siamo giunti, dobbiamo camminare di conserva. | 16 Only let us hold true to what we have attained. |
| 17 Siate imitatori miei, o fratelli, e guardate quelli che così procedono, conforme avete in noi il modello. | 17 Brethren, join in imitating me, and mark those who so live as you have an example in us. |
| 18 Perchè, come molte volte vi diceva, (e anche ora piangendo ve lo dico), molte procedono da nemici della croce di Cristo; | 18 For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, live as enemies of the cross of Christ. |
| 19 lo scopo dei quali è rovina, il cui Dio è il ventre, e si gloriano di ciò che è la loro vergogna, e non hanno altro pensiero che alle cose terrene. | 19 Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. |
| 20 Giacchè la cittadinanza nostra è ne' cieli, donde aspettiamo anche Salvatore il Signor Gesù Cristo. | 20 But our commonwealth is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, |
| 21 Il quale trasformerà il corpo della miseria nostra sì, che sia conforme al corpo della sua gloria, ciò in virtù del suo potere e del suo assoggettare a sè ogni cosa. | 21 who will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power which enables him even to subject all things to himself. |
