1 Similarly also, wives should be subject to their husbands, so that, even if some do not believe the Word, they may benefit without the Word, through the behavior of these wives,	1 Igualmente, que las mujeres estén a disposición de sus propios maridos, de modo que, si hay algunos que son reacios a la Palabra, se convenzan por la conducta de las mujeres y sin necesidad de palabras,
2 as they consider with fear your chaste behavior.	2 asombrados, fijándose en vuestra conducta intachable y respetuosa.
3 For you, there should be no unnecessary adornment of the hair, or surrounding with gold, or the wearing of ornate clothing.	3 Que vuestro adorno no sea lo exterior, los peinados complicados, las joyas de oro, ni los vestidos lujosos,
4 Instead, you should be a hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptibility of a quiet and a meek spirit, rich in the sight of God.	4 sino la profunda humanidad del corazón en la incorruptibilidad de un espíritu apacible y sereno; eso sí que es valioso ante Dios.
5 For in this way, in past times also, holy women adorned themselves, hoping in God, being subject to their own husbands.	5 Pues así se adornaban también antaño las santas mujeres que tenían puesta su esperanza en Dios, con actitud de disponibilidad para con sus propios maridos;
6 For so Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You are her daughters, well-behaved and unafraid of any disturbance.	6 por ejemplo, Sara obedeció a Abrahán llamándolo señor: vosotras os asemejáis a ella cuando hacéis el bien, pero sin temor alguno.
7 Similarly, you husbands should live with them in accord with knowledge, bestowing honor on the female as the weaker vessel and as co-heirs of the life of grace, so that your prayers may not be hindered.	7 Igualmente, los maridos, en la convivencia con la mujer, sabiendo que es más delicada, demuestren estima hacia ellas como coherederas que son también de la gracia de la vida, para que vuestras oraciones no encuentren obstáculo.
8 And finally, may you all be of one mind: compassionate, loving brotherhood, merciful, meek, humble,	8 Y por último, tened todos el mismo sentir, sed solidarios en el sufrimiento, quereos como hermanos, tened un corazón compasivo y sed humildes.
9 not repaying evil with evil, nor slander with slander, but, to the contrary, repaying with blessings. For to this you have been called, so that you may possess the inheritance of a blessing.	9 No devolváis mal por mal, ni insulto por insulto, sino al contrario, responded con una bendición, porque para esto habéis sido llamados, para heredar una bendición.
10 For whoever wants to love life and to see good days should restrain his tongue from evil, and his lips, so that they utter no deceit.	10 Pues quien desee amar la vida | y ver días buenos, | refrene su lengua del mal | y sus labios de pronunciar falsedad;
11 Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it.	11 apártese del mal | y haga el bien, | busque la paz | y corra tras ella,
12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon the just, and his ears are with their prayers, but the countenance of the Lord is upon those who do evil.	12 pues los ojos del Señor se fijan en los justos | y sus oídos atienden a sus ruegos; | pero el Señor hace frente a los que practican el mal.
13 And who is it who can harm you, if you are zealous in what is good?	13 ¿Quién os va a tratar mal si vuestro empeño es el bien?
14 And yet, even when you suffer something for the sake of justice, you are blessed. So then, do not be afraid with their fear, and do not be disturbed.	14 Pero si, además, tuvierais que sufrir por causa de la justicia, bienaventurados vosotros. Ahora bien, no les tengáis miedo ni os amedrentéis.
15 But sanctify Christ the Lord in your hearts, being always ready to give an explanation to all who ask you the reason for that hope which is in you.	15 Más bien, glorificad a Cristo el Señor en vuestros corazones, dispuestos siempre para dar explicación a todo el que os pida una razón de vuestra esperanza,
16 But do so with meekness and fear, having a good conscience, so that, in whatever matter they may slander you, they shall be confounded, since they falsely accuse your good behavior in Christ.	16 pero con delicadeza y con respeto, teniendo buena conciencia, para que, cuando os calumnien, queden en ridículo los que atentan contra vuestra buena conducta en Cristo.
17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if it is the will of God, than for doing evil.	17 Pues es mejor sufrir haciendo el bien, si así lo quiere Dios, que sufrir haciendo el mal.
18 For Christ also died once for our sins, the Just One on behalf of the unjust, so that he might offer us to God, having died, certainly, in the flesh, but having been enlivened by the Spirit.	18 Porque también Cristo | sufrió su pasión, de una vez para siempre, por los pecados, | el justo por los injustos, | para conduciros a Dios. | Muerto en la carne | pero vivificado en el Espíritu;
19 And in the Spirit, he preached to those who were in prison, going to those souls	19 en el espíritu fue a predicar incluso a los espíritus en prisión,
20 who had been unbelieving in past times, while they waited for the patience of God, as in the days of Noah, when the ark was being built. In that ark, a few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water.	20 a los desobedientes en otro tiempo, cuando la paciencia de Dios aguardaba, en los días de Noé, a que se construyera el arca, para que unos pocos, es decir, ocho personas, se salvaran por medio del agua.
21 And now you also are saved, in a similar manner, by baptism, not by the testimony of sordid flesh, but by the examination of a good conscience in God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.	21 Aquello era también un símbolo del bautismo que actualmente os está salvando, que no es purificación de una mancha física, sino petición a Dios de una buena conciencia, por la resurrección de Jesucristo,
22 He is at the right hand of God, devouring death, so that we may be made heirs to eternal life. And since he has journeyed to heaven, the Angels and powers and virtues are subject to him.	22 el cual fue al cielo, está sentado a la derecha de Dios y tiene a su disposición ángeles, potestades y poderes.
