1 Similarly also, wives should be subject to their husbands, so that, even if some do not believe the Word, they may benefit without the Word, through the behavior of these wives,	1 Ugualmente le mogli siano sottomesse ai mariti in modo che, se alcuni di essi non obbediscono alla parola, siano guadagnati per mezzo della condotta delle donne anche senza la parola,
2 as they consider with fear your chaste behavior.	2 considerando con attenzione la vostra condotta pura, ispirata al senso di Dio.
3 For you, there should be no unnecessary adornment of the hair, or surrounding with gold, or the wearing of ornate clothing.	3 Il loro ornamento non sia quello esteriore, consistente nell'intreccio dei capelli, nel portare oggetti d'oro o nel rivestirsi di abiti preziosi,
4 Instead, you should be a hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptibility of a quiet and a meek spirit, rich in the sight of God.	4 ma nella la loro personalità interiore, basata sull'elemento incorruttibile di uno spirito dolce e tranquillo, che è prezioso al cospetto di Dio.
5 For in this way, in past times also, holy women adorned themselves, hoping in God, being subject to their own husbands.	5 Così, infatti, un tempo le donne sante che speravano in Dio si adornavano e vivevano sottomesse ai propri mariti,
6 For so Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You are her daughters, well-behaved and unafraid of any disturbance.	6 come Sara che obbedì ad Abramo chiamandolo signore: di essa siete divenute figlie, facendo del bene, libere da ogni timore.
7 Similarly, you husbands should live with them in accord with knowledge, bestowing honor on the female as the weaker vessel and as co-heirs of the life of grace, so that your prayers may not be hindered.	7 Ugualmente voi, uomini, abitando insieme alla donna con intelligenza, rendete il debito onore alla persona più debole della donna, ad essa che partecipa alla vostra stessa eredità di grazia, in modo che le vostre preghiere non vengano respinte.
8 And finally, may you all be of one mind: compassionate, loving brotherhood, merciful, meek, humble,	8 Infine, siate tutti unanimi, comprensivi, amanti dei fratelli, ben disposti, umili,
9 not repaying evil with evil, nor slander with slander, but, to the contrary, repaying with blessings. 11 Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it.	11 si allontani dal male e faccia il bene, cerchi la pace con costanza e forza,
12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon the just, and his ears are with their prayers, but the countenance of the Lord is upon those who do evil.	12 poiché gli occhi del Signore si posano sopra i giusti e i suoi orecchi sono protesi all'ascolto delle loro preghiere, mentre la faccia del Signore è rivolta a chi compie il male.
13 And who is it who can harm you, if you are zealous in what is good?	13 E chi potrà nuocervi se sarete ferventi nel bene?
14 And yet, even when you suffer something for the sake of justice, you are blessed. So then, do not be afraid with their fear, and do not be disturbed.	14 Ma se anche dovete soffrire a causa della giustizia, beati voi! Non vi fate prendere dal timore che vogliono incutere costoro; non vi turbate,
15 But sanctify Christ the Lord in your hearts, being always ready to give an explanation to all who ask you the reason for that hope which is in you.	15 ma santificate Cristo Signore nei vostri cuori, pronti sempre a dare una risposta a chi vi chiede il motivo della vostra speranza,
16 But do so with meekness and fear, having a good conscience, so that, in whatever matter they may slander you, they shall be confounded, since they falsely accuse your good behavior in Christ.	16 con mitezza e rispetto, con una coscienza retta, in modo che coloro che vi calunniano abbiano a vergognarsi di ciò che dicono sparlando di voi, a causa della vostra condotta intemerata in unione con Cristo.
17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if it is the will of God, than for doing evil.	17 E' meglio, infatti, se così esige la volontà di Dio, che voi soffriate facendo il bene che facendo il male.
18 For Christ also died once for our sins, the Just One on behalf of the unjust, so that he might offer us to God, having died, certainly, in the flesh, but having been enlivened by the Spirit.	18 Poiché anche Cristo morì una volta per i peccati, egli che era giusto, a favore di non giusti, affinché, messo a morte nella carne, ma vivificato nello Spirito, vi potesse condurre a Dio.
19 And in the Spirit, he preached to those who were in prison, going to those souls	19 In esso andò a portare l'annuncio anche agli spiriti nella prigione,
20 who had been unbelieving in past times, while they waited for the patience of God, as in the days of Noah, when the ark was being built. In that ark, a few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water.	20 a coloro che erano stati un tempo disobbedienti, quando Dio nella sua longanimità attese, nei giorni di Noè, che fosse costruita l'arca, nella quale otto persone, in tutto, trovarono scampo dall'acqua,
21 And now you also are saved, in a similar manner, by baptism, not by the testimony of sordid flesh, but by the examination of a good conscience in God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.	21 figura, questa, del battesimo, che ora salva voi: esso non è un deporre la sordidezza materiale, ma l'impegno preso con Dio di una coscienza retta, in forza della risurrezione di Gesù Cristo,
22 He is at the right hand of God, devouring death, so that we may be made heirs to eternal life. And since he has journeyed to heaven, the Angels and powers and virtues are subject to him.	22 che sta alla destra di Dio, che è salito in cielo sottomettendo a sé gli angeli, le virtù e le potenze celesti.
