1 And it happened that, on one of the days when he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the Gospel, the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, gathered together with the elders,	1 Un certain jour, tandis qu’il enseignait le peuple dans le Temple et lui donnait la Bonne Nouvelle, les grands prêtres et les maîtres de la Loi se présentèrent avec les Anciens du peuple.
2 and they spoke to him, saying: “Tell us, by what authority do you do these things? Or, who is it that has given you this authority?”	2 Ils lui demandèrent: "Dis-nous: de quelle autorité fais-tu tout cela? Qui t’a chargé de le faire?”
3 And in response, Jesus said to them: “I will also question you about one word. Respond to me:	3 Il leur répondit: "Moi aussi je vais vous poser une question et vous me répondrez.
4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?”	4 Quand Jean s’est mis à baptiser, était-ce une initiative du Ciel, ou simplement humaine?”
5 So they discussed it among themselves, saying: “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’	5 Ils firent entre eux ces réflexions: "Si nous disons que c’était chose du Ciel, il dira: Pourquoi n’avez-vous pas cru en lui?
6 But if we say, ‘Of men,’ the whole people will stone us. For they are certain that John was a prophet.”	6 Et si nous disons que c’était une affaire humaine, tout le peuple va nous lapider, car ils sont convaincus que Jean était un prophète.”
7 And so they responded that they did not know where it was from.	7 Aussi répondirent-ils qu’ils ne savaient pas.
8 And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”	8 Et Jésus leur dit: "Je ne vous dirai pas non plus de quelle autorité je fais tout cela.”
9 Then he began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard, and he loaned it to settlers, and he was on a sojourn for a long time.	9 Jésus se mit à raconter au peuple cette parabole: "Un homme avait planté une vigne et l’avait louée à des fermiers, puis il était parti pour un long séjour à l’étranger.
10 And in due time, he sent a servant to the farmers, so that they would give to him from the fruit of the vineyard. And they beat him and drove him away, empty-handed.	10 “Le moment venu il envoie un serviteur auprès des fermiers pour qu’ils lui remettent une part du produit de la vigne. Mais les vignerons le battent et le renvoient les mains vides.
11 And he continued to send another servant. But beating him and treating him with contempt, they likewise sent him away, empty-handed.	11 De nouveau, il envoie un autre serviteur; les vignerons le battent, se moquent de lui et le renvoient les mains vides.
12 And he continued to send a third. And wounding him also, they drove him away.	12 Lui recommence: il envoie un troisième serviteur; mais on le met à mal et on le jette dehors.
13 Then the lord of the vineyard said: ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Perhaps when they have seen him, they will respect him.’	13 “Le seigneur de la vigne se dit: ‘Que puis-je faire? Je vais envoyer mon fils que j’aime, lui au moins ils le respecteront.’
14 And when the settlers had seen him, they discussed it among themselves, saying: ‘This one is the heir. Let us kill him, so that the inheritance will be ours.’	14 “Mais en le voyant, les fermiers font ce calcul: ‘C’est lui l’héritier; tuons-le, et l’héritage sera à nous.’
15 And forcing him outside of the vineyard, they killed him. What, then, will the lord of the vineyard do to them?”	15 Ils le jettent donc hors de la vigne et le tuent. “Comment le seigneur de la vigne va-t-il agir avec eux?
16 “He will come and destroy those settlers, and he will give the vineyard to others.” And upon hearing this, they said to him, “Let it not be.”	16 Il viendra, il fera périr ces fermiers et donnera la vigne à d’autres.” En entendant cela ils dirent: "Ne parlons pas de malheur!”
17 Then, gazing at them, he said: “Then what does this mean, which is written: ‘The stone which the builders have rejected, the same has become the head of the corner?’	17 Alors, les yeux dans les yeux, Jésus leur dit: "Que signifie cette Écriture: La pierre rejetée par les bâtisseurs est devenue la pierre d’angle?
18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be shattered. And anyone upon whom it falls will be crushed.”	18 Quiconque tombera sur cette pierre se brisera, et si elle tombe sur quelqu’un, elle le réduira en poussière.”
19 And the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, were seeking to lay hands on him in that same hour, but they feared the people. For they realized that he had spoken this parable about them.	19 Les maîtres de la Loi et les grands prêtres avaient grande envie de mettre la main sur lui, mais ils craignaient le peuple; ils avaient bien compris que cette parabole de Jésus était pour eux.
20 And being attentive, they sent traitors, who would pretend that they were just, so that they might catch him in his words and then hand him over to the power and authority of the procurator.	20 C’est ainsi qu’ils préparent un piège: ils envoient des mouchards qui jouent les gens bien intentionnés, afin de le prendre en défaut dans ses paroles et de pouvoir ainsi le remettre aux mains du gouverneur et à son tribunal.
21 And they questioned him, saying: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, and that you do not consider anyone’s status, but you teach the way of God in truth.	21 Ils lui posent cette question: "Maître, nous savons que tu es droit dans tout ce que tu dis et enseignes. Tu ne cherches pas à te faire bien voir des gens, mais tu enseignes selon la vérité le chemin de Dieu.
22 Is it lawful for us to pay the tribute to Caesar, or not?”	22 Nous est-il permis de verser l’impôt à César, ou non?
23 But realizing their deceitfulness, he said to them: “Why do you test me?	23 Jésus a compris leur astuce; il leur dit:
24 Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” In response, they said to him, “Caesar’s.”	24 -“Montrez-moi un denier. De qui sont l’image et l’inscription?” Ils répondent: "De César.”
25 And so, he said to them: “Then repay the things that are Caesar’s, to Caesar, and the things that are God’s, to God.”	25 Et lui leur dit: "Rendez donc à César ce qui est de César et à Dieu ce qui est de Dieu!”
26 And they were not able to contradict his word before the people. And being amazed at his answer, they were silent.	26 Avec cela il leur fut impossible de prendre en défaut ses paroles devant le peuple. Ils furent très surpris de sa réponse et gardèrent le silence.
27 Now some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection, approached him. And they questioned him,	27 Alors s’approchèrent quelques Saducéens - ces gens-là nient qu’il y ait une résurrection -
28 saying: “Teacher, Moses wrote for us: If any man’s brother will have died, having a wife, and if he does not have any children, then his brother should take her as his wife, and he should raise up offspring for his brother.	28 et ils lui posèrent cette question: "Maître, Moïse nous a mis ceci dans l’Écriture: Si un homme marié meurt sans enfants, son frère doit prendre la veuve et donner ainsi une descendance à celui qui est mort.
29 And so there were seven brothers. And the first took a wife, and he died without sons.	29 Or il y avait sept frères. Le premier s’est marié et il est mort sans enfants.
30 And the next one married her, and he also died without a son.	30 Le deuxième,
31 And the third married her, and similarly all seven, and none of them left behind any offspring, and they each died.	31 puis le troisième ont pris la veuve, et de même les autres jusqu’au septième: ils sont tous morts sans laisser d’enfant.
32 Last of all, the woman also died.	32 Ensuite la femme est morte.
33 In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be? For certainly all seven had her as a wife.”	33 S’il y a résurrection, duquel d’entre eux sera-t-elle la femme, puisqu’elle l’a été des sept?”
34 And so, Jesus said to them: “The children of this age marry and are given in marriage.	34 Jésus leur dit: "Les enfants de ce monde prennent mari ou femme;
35 Yet truly, those who shall be held worthy of that age, and of the resurrection from the dead, will neither be married, nor take wives.	35 mais ceux qu’on a trouvés dignes d’avoir part à l’autre monde et à la résurrection des morts, ne prennent pas mari ou femme.
36 For they can no longer die. For they are equal to the Angels, and they are children of God, since they are children of the resurrection.	36 Par ailleurs ils ne peuvent plus mourir, mais ils sont comme des anges. Eux aussi sont fils de Dieu, puisqu’ils sont nés de la résurrection.
37 For in truth, the dead do rise again, as Moses also showed beside the bush, when he called the Lord: ‘The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’	37 “Quant au fait que les morts ressuscitent, Moïse lui-même l’a insinué dans le passage du Buisson Ardent, là où il appelle le Seigneur: Dieu d’Abraham, Dieu d’Isaac et Dieu de Jacob.
38 And so he is not the God of the dead, but of the living. For all are alive to him.”	38 Il n’est pas un Dieu des morts, mais bien des vivants: tous vivent pour lui.”
39 Then some of the scribes, in response, said to him, “Teacher, you have spoken well.”	39 À ce moment quelques maîtres de la Loi prirent la parole et dirent: "Maître, tu as bien parlé.”
40 And they no longer dared to question him about anything.	40 Mais après cette réplique, plus personne n’osait l’interroger.
41 But he said to them: “How can they say that the Christ is the son of David?	41 À son tour Jésus leur demanda: "Comment peut-on dire que le Messie est fils de David?
42 Even David himself says, in the book of Psalms: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand,	42 David lui-même dit, au livre des Psaumes: Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur: Siège à ma droite
43 until I set your enemies as your footstool.’	43 et vois comment je fais de tes ennemis ton marchepied.
44 Therefore, David calls him Lord. So how can he be his son?”	44 David l’appelle ‘Seigneur’, et on voudrait qu’il soit son fils?”
45 Now in the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples:	45 Il dit à ses disciples, quand tout le peuple écoutait:
46 “Be cautious of the scribes, who choose to walk in long robes, and who love greetings in the marketplace, and the first chairs in the synagogues, and the first places at table during feasts,	46 "Méfiez-vous des maîtres de la Loi qui se plaisent à circuler en longues robes, qui aiment les salutations sur les places publiques, les premiers fauteuils dans les synagogues et les premières places dans les festins.
47 who devour the houses of widows, feigning long prayers. These will receive the greater damnation.”	47 Ils s’introduisent avec leurs longues prières, et ensuite ils dévorent les maisons des veuves. Leur condamnation sera terrible.”
