1 And immediately in the morning, after the leaders of the priests had taken counsel with the elders and the scribes and the entire council, binding Jesus, they led him away and delivered him to Pilate.	1 - Di buon'ora, senza ritardo alcuno, i principi dei Sacerdoti con i seniori, gli Scribi e tutto il Sinedrio, fecero consiglio, e Gesù, legato e condotto via, fu consegnato a Pilato.
2 And Pilate questioned him, “You are the king of the Jews?” But in response, he said to him, “You are saying it.”	2 Pilato lo interrogò: «Sei tu il re dei Giudei?». Gesù rispose: «Tu lo dici».
3 And the leaders of the priests accused him in many things.	3 I principi dei Sacerdoti intanto lo accusavano di molte cose.
4 Then Pilate again questioned him, saying: “Do you not have any response? See how greatly they accuse you.”	4 Pilato allora gli domandò di nuovo: «Non rispondi nulla? Guarda di quante cose ti accusano».
5 But Jesus continued to give no response, so that Pilate wondered.	5 Ma Gesù non rispose più nulla, tanto che Pilato se ne meravigliava.
6 Now on the feast day, he was accustomed to release to them one of the prisoners, whomever they requested.	6 Ora per la festa di Pasqua egli liberava a loro un carcerato, qualunque chiedessero.
7 But there was one called Barabbas, who had committed murder in the sedition, who was confined with those of the sedition.	7 C'era allora in prigione uno, chiamato Barabba, legato insieme a dei sediziosi, per aver in una sommossa commesso un omicidio.
8 And when the crowd had ascended, they began to petition him to do as he always did for them.	8 Il popolo, adunatosi, cominciò a domandare che egli facesse come sempre aveva lor fatto.
9 But Pilate answered them and said, “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?”	9 E Pilato chiese loro: «Volete che vi dia libero il re dei Giudei?».
10 For he knew that it was out of envy that the leaders of the priests had betrayed him.	10 Poichè sapeva bene che i principi dei Sacerdoti glielo avevano consegnato per invidia.
11 Then the chief priests incited the crowd, so that he would release Barabbas to them instead.	11 I principi dei Sacerdoti però istigarono il popolo a chiedere piuttosto la liberazione di Barabba.
12 But Pilate, responding again, said to them: “Then what do you want me to do with the king of the Jews?”	12 E Pilato di nuovo domandò: «Che volete dunque ch'io faccia del re dei Giudei?».
13 But again they cried out, “Crucify him.”	13 Essi di nuovo gridarono: «Crocifiggilo».
14 Yet truly, Pilate said to them: “Why? What evil has he done?” But they cried out all the more, “Crucify him.”	14 E Pilato diceva loro: «Ma che male ha fatto?». E quelli gridavano più forte: «Crocifiggilo».
15 Then Pilate, wishing to satisfy the people, released Barabbas to them, and he delivered Jesus, having severely scourged him, to be crucified.	15 Pilato, volendo soddisfare la moltitudine, liberò loro Barabba, e consegnò Gesù, dopo d'averlo fatto flagellare, per essere crocifisso.
16 Then the soldiers led him away to the court of the praetorium. And they called together the entire cohort.	16 I soldati poi lo condussero nell'atrio del Pretorio, e vi convocarono tutta la coorte.
17 And they clothed him with purple. And platting a crown of thorns, they placed it on him.	17 Lo vestirono di porpora e, intrecciata una corona di spine, gliela misero in capo,
18 And they began to salute him: “Hail, king of the Jews.”	18 e cominciarono a salutarlo: «Salve, o re dei Giudei».
19 And they struck his head with a reed, and they spit on him. And kneeling down, they reverenced him.	19 E gli picchiavano la testa con una canna, gli sputavano addosso, e piegando il ginocchio, gli si prostravan davanti.
20 And after they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple, and they clothed him in his own garments. And they led him away, so that they might crucify him.	20 Dopo averlo schernito, lo spogliarono della porpora, e gli rimisero le sue vesti. Condottolo fuori per crocifiggerlo,
21 And they compelled a certain passerby, Simon the Cyrenian, who was arriving from the countryside, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to take up his cross.	21 costrinsero un certo Simone di Cirene, padre di Alessandro e di Rufo, che ritornava dalla campagna, a portare la croce di lui.
22 And they led him through to the place called Golgotha, which means, ‘the Place of Calvary.’	22 Lo condussero a un luogo, detto Golgota, che tradotto significa luogo del teschio.
23 And they gave him wine with myrrh to drink. But he did not accept it.	23 E gli offersero da bere vino mirrato; ma egli non ne bevve.
24 And while crucifying him, they divided his garments, casting lots over them, to see who would take what.	24 Poi lo crocifissero e si divisero le sue vesti, tirandole a sorte per sapere quel che ne toccherebbe a ciascuno.
25 Now it was the third hour. And they crucified him.	25 Era l'ora terza, quando lo crocifissero.
26 And the title of his case was written as: THE KING OF THE JEWS.	26 E l'iscrizione che indicava il titolo della condanna, diceva: «IL RE DEI GIUDEI».
27 And with him they crucified two robbers: one at his right, and the other at his left.	27 Con lui crocifissero due ladroni; uno alla sua destra e l'altro alla sinistra.
28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which says: “And with the iniquitous he was reputed.”	28 Così si adempì quella profezia: «È stato annoverato tra i malfattori».
29 And the passersby blasphemed him, shaking their heads and saying, “Ah, you who would destroy the temple of God, and in three days rebuild it,	29 Quanti passavano lo bestemmiavano scrollando il capo e dicendo: «Eh, tu che distruggi il tempio di Dio e in tre giorni lo riedifichi,
30 save yourself by descending from the cross.”	30 salva te stesso, scendi dalla croce!».
31 And similarly the leaders of the priests, mocking him with the scribes, said to one another: “He saved others. He is not able to save himself.	31 Nello stesso modo anche i principi dei Sacerdoti e gli Scribi, facendosi beffe di lui dicevano: «Ha salvato gli altri e non può salvare se stesso.
32 Let the Christ, the king of Israel, descend now from the cross, so that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also insulted him.	32 Il Cristo, re d'Israele, scenda adesso dalla croce, affinchè vediamo e crediamo!». Anche i crocifissi con lui lo svillaneggiavano.
33 And when the sixth hour arrived, a darkness occurred over the entire earth, until the ninth hour.	33 All'ora sesta si fece buio su tutta la terra fino all'ora nona.
34 And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabacthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”	34 E all'ora nona, Gesù con gran voce esclamò: «Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabactani?», che tradotto significa: «Dio mio, Dio mio, perchè mi hai abbandonato?».
35 And some of those standing near, upon hearing this, said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.”	35 Alcuni degli astanti udito ciò, dissero: «Ecco, chiama Elia».
36 Then one of them, running and filling a sponge with vinegar, and placing it around a reed, gave it to him to drink, saying: “Wait. Let us see if Elijah will come to take him down.”	36 E uno corse ad inzuppare una spugna nell'aceto e, postala in cima a una canna, gli dava da bere, dicendo: «Lasciate che vediamo se Elia viene a tirarlo giù».
37 Then Jesus, having emitted a loud cry, expired.	37 Ma Gesù, mandando un gran grido, spirò.
38 And the veil of the temple was torn in two, from the top to the bottom.	38 Il velo del tempio si squarciò in due parti, da capo a fondo.
39 Then the centurion who stood opposite him, seeing that he had expired while crying out in this way, said: “Truly, this man was the Son of God.”	39 E il centurione che gli stava dirimpetto, vistolo spirare in quel modo, disse: «Quest'uomo era davvero Figlio di Dio».
40 Now there were also women watching from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph, and Salome,	40 C'eran pure alcune donne che osservavan da lontano: tra esse vi era Maria Maddalena, Maria, madre di Giacomo il minore e di Giuseppe, e Salome;
41 (and while he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him) and many other women, who had ascended along with him to Jerusalem.	41 le quali, fin da quando era in Galilea, lo seguivano e gli prestavan servigi; e molte altre che eran venute a Gerusalemme insieme con lui.
42 And when evening had now arrived (because it was the Preparation Day, which is before the Sabbath)	42 Venuta la sera, siccome era la Parasceve, cioè la vigilia del sabato,
43 there arrived Joseph of Arimathea, a noble council member, who himself was also awaiting the kingdom of God. And he boldly entered to Pilate and petitioned for the body of Jesus.	43 venne Giuseppe d'Arimatea, nobile decurione, il quale pure aspettava il regno di Dio; coraggiosamente si presentò a Pilato a chiedere il corpo di Gesù.
44 But Pilate wondered if he had already died. And summoning a centurion, he questioned him as to whether he was already dead.	44 Pilato si meravigliò che fosse già spirato, e chiamato il centurione gli domandò se fosse già morto.
45 And when he had been informed by the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.	45 Conosciuta dal centurione la verità donò il corpo a Giuseppe.
46 Then Joseph, having bought a fine linen cloth, and taking him down, wrapped him in the fine linen and laid him in a sepulcher, which was hewn from a rock. And he rolled a stone to the entrance of the tomb.	46 Questi comprato un lenzuolo e deposto Gesù dalla croce, lo involse nel lenzuolo e lo mise in un sepolcro scavato nella roccia e rotolò una pietra all'ingresso del sepolcro.
47 Now Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph observed where he was laid.	47 E Maria Maddalena e Maria, madre di Giuseppe stavano a guardare, dove lo collocavano.
