17 And so, all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the transmigration of Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the transmigration of Babylon to the Christ, fourteen generations.	17 In tal modo, tutte le generazioni da Abramo a Davide sono quattordici, da Davide fino alla deportazione in Babilonia quattordici, dalla deportazione in Babilonia a Cristo quattordici.
18 Now the procreation of the Christ occurred in this way. After his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they lived together, she was found to have conceived in her womb by the Holy Spirit.	18 Così fu generato Gesù Cristo: sua madre Maria, essendo promessa sposa di Giuseppe, prima che andassero a vivere insieme si trovò incinta per opera dello Spirito Santo.
19 Then Joseph, her husband, since he was just and was not willing to hand her over, preferred to send her away secretly.	19 Giuseppe suo sposo, poiché era uomo giusto e non voleva accusarla pubblicamente, pensò di ripudiarla in segreto.
20 But while thinking over these things, behold, an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to accept Mary as your wife. For what has been formed in her is of the Holy Spirit.	20 Mentre però stava considerando queste cose, ecco, gli apparve in sogno un angelo del Signore e gli disse: «Giuseppe, figlio di Davide, non temere di prendere con te Maria, tua sposa. Infatti il bambino che è generato in lei viene dallo Spirito Santo;
21 And she shall give birth to a son. And you shall call his name JESUS. For he shall accomplish the salvation of his people from their sins.”	21 ella darà alla luce un figlio e tu lo chiamerai Gesù: egli infatti salverà il suo popolo dai suoi peccati».
22 Now all this occurred in order to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:	22 Tutto questo è avvenuto perché si compisse ciò che era stato detto dal Signore per mezzo del profeta:
23 “Behold, a virgin shall conceive in her womb, and she shall give birth to a son. And they shall call his name Emmanuel, which means: God is with us.”	23 Ecco, la vergine concepirà e darà alla luce un figlio: a lui sarà dato il nome di Emmanuele, che significa Dio con noi.
24 Then Joseph, arising from sleep, did just as the Angel of the Lord had instructed him, and he accepted her as his wife.	24 Quando si destò dal sonno, Giuseppe fece come gli aveva ordinato l’angelo del Signore e prese con sé la sua sposa;
25 And he knew her not, yet she bore her son, the firstborn. And he called his name JESUS.	25 senza che egli la conoscesse, ella diede alla luce un figlio ed egli lo chiamò Gesù.
