Jeremiah 47

1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah, the prophet, against the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.	1 LA parola del Signore che fu indirizzata al profeta Geremia contro a’ Filistei, avanti che Faraone percotesse Gaza.
2 Thus says the Lord: “Behold, waters will rise up from the north, and they will be like an inundating torrent, and they will cover the land and its plenitude, the city and its inhabitants. The men will cry out, and all the inhabitants of the land will wail,	2 Così ha detto il Signore: Ecco, delle acque salgono di Settentrione, e sono come un torrente che trabocca, e inonderanno la terra, e tutto quello ch’è in essa, le città, e i loro abitanti; e gli uomini grideranno, e tutti gli abitatori del paese urleranno.
3 before the uproar of a procession of weapons and of his soldiers, before the commotion of his four-horse chariots and the multitude of his wheels. The fathers have not looked back for the sons, because of feebleness of hands,	3 Per lo strepito del calpestio delle unghie de’ destrieri di esso, per lo romore de’ suoi carri, per lo fracasso delle sue ruote, i padri non si son rivolti a’ figliuoli, per la fiacchezza delle lor mani;
4 because of the arrival of the day on which all the Philistines will be devastated, and Tyre and Sidon will be destroyed, with all the rest of their helpers. For the Lord has depopulated the Philistines, the remnant of the island of Cappadocia.	4 per cagion del giorno che viene, per guastar tutti i Filistei, per isterminare a Tiro, e a Sidon, ogni rimanente di aiuto; perciocchè il Signore diserterà i Filistei, il rimanente dell’isola di Caftor.
5 Baldness has arrived over Gaza. Ashkelon has been silenced, along with the remnant of their valley. And how long will you continue to be cut down?	5 Raditura di capo è avvenuta a Gaza, Ascalon è perita, col rimanente della lor valle. Infino a quando ti farai tu delle tagliature addosso?
6 O sharp sword of the Lord, how long will you be without rest? Enter your sheath; be refreshed and silenced.	6 Ahi spada del Signore! infino a quando non ti riposerai? ricogliti nel tuo fodero, riposati, e resta.
7 But how can it find rest, when the Lord has ordered it against Ashkelon and against its maritime regions, and when a task has been appointed to it there?”	7 Come ti riposeresti? conciossiachè il Signore le abbia data commessione, e l’abbia assegnata là, contro ad Ascalon, e contro al lito del mare
