CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINLXX
For behold, the sovereign Lord of hosts will take away, from Jerusalem and from Judah, the powerful and the strong: all the strength from bread, and all the strength from water;1 ιδου δη ο δεσποτης κυριος σαβαωθ αφελει απο της ιουδαιας και απο ιερουσαλημ ισχυοντα και ισχυουσαν ισχυν αρτου και ισχυν υδατος
the strong man, and the man of war, the judge and the prophet, and the seer and the elder;2 γιγαντα και ισχυοντα και ανθρωπον πολεμιστην και δικαστην και προφητην και στοχαστην και πρεσβυτερον
the leader over fifty and the honorable in appearance; and the counselor, and the wise among builders, and the skillful in mystical speech.3 και πεντηκονταρχον και θαυμαστον συμβουλον και σοφον αρχιτεκτονα και συνετον ακροατην
And I will provide children as their leaders, and the effeminate will rule over them.4 και επιστησω νεανισκους αρχοντας αυτων και εμπαικται κυριευσουσιν αυτων
And the people will rush, man against man, and each one against his neighbor. The child shall rebel against the elder, and the ignoble against the noble.5 και συμπεσειται ο λαος ανθρωπος προς ανθρωπον και ανθρωπος προς τον πλησιον αυτου προσκοψει το παιδιον προς τον πρεσβυτην ο ατιμος προς τον εντιμον
For a man will apprehend his brother, from the household of his own father, saying: “The vestment is yours. Be our leader, but let this ruin be under your hand.”6 οτι επιλημψεται ανθρωπος του αδελφου αυτου η του οικειου του πατρος αυτου λεγων ιματιον εχεις αρχηγος ημων γενου και το βρωμα το εμον υπο σε εστω
In that day, he will respond by saying: “I am not a healer, and there is no bread or vestment in my house. Do not choose to appoint me as a leader of the people.”7 και αποκριθεις ερει εν τη ημερα εκεινη ουκ εσομαι σου αρχηγος ου γαρ εστιν εν τω οικω μου αρτος ουδε ιματιον ουκ εσομαι αρχηγος του λαου τουτου
For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah has fallen, because their words and their plans are against the Lord, in order to provoke the eyes of his majesty.8 οτι ανειται ιερουσαλημ και η ιουδαια συμπεπτωκεν και αι γλωσσαι αυτων μετα ανομιας τα προς κυριον απειθουντες διοτι νυν εταπεινωθη η δοξα αυτων
The acknowledgement of their countenance is their response. For they have proclaimed their own sin, like Sodom; and they have not concealed it. Woe to their souls! For evils are being repaid to them.9 και η αισχυνη του προσωπου αυτων αντεστη αυτοις την δε αμαρτιαν αυτων ως σοδομων ανηγγειλαν και ενεφανισαν ουαι τη ψυχη αυτων διοτι βεβουλευνται βουλην πονηραν καθ' εαυτων
Tell the just man that it is well, for he shall eat from the fruit from his own plans.10 ειποντες δησωμεν τον δικαιον οτι δυσχρηστος ημιν εστιν τοινυν τα γενηματα των εργων αυτων φαγονται
Woe to the impious man immersed in evil! For retribution will be given to him from his own hands.11 ουαι τω ανομω πονηρα κατα τα εργα των χειρων αυτου συμβησεται αυτω
As for my people, their oppressors have despoiled them, and women have ruled over them. My people, who call you blessed, the same are deceiving you and disrupting the path of your steps.12 λαος μου οι πρακτορες υμων καλαμωνται υμας και οι απαιτουντες κυριευουσιν υμων λαος μου οι μακαριζοντες υμας πλανωσιν υμας και τον τριβον των ποδων υμων ταρασσουσιν
The Lord stands for judgment, and he stands to judge the people.13 αλλα νυν καταστησεται εις κρισιν κυριος και στησει εις κρισιν τον λαον αυτου
The Lord will enter into judgment with the elders of his people, and with their leaders. For you have been devouring the vineyard, and the plunder from the poor is in your house.14 αυτος κυριος εις κρισιν ηξει μετα των πρεσβυτερων του λαου και μετα των αρχοντων αυτου υμεις δε τι ενεπυρισατε τον αμπελωνα μου και η αρπαγη του πτωχου εν τοις οικοις υμων
Why do you wear down my people, and grind up the faces of the poor, says the Lord, the God of hosts?15 τι υμεις αδικειτε τον λαον μου και το προσωπον των πτωχων καταισχυνετε
And the Lord said: Because the daughters of Zion have been lifted up, and have walked with extended necks and winking eyes, because they have continued on, walking noisily and advancing with a pretentious stride,16 ταδε λεγει κυριος ανθ' ων υψωθησαν αι θυγατερες σιων και επορευθησαν υψηλω τραχηλω και εν νευμασιν οφθαλμων και τη πορεια των ποδων αμα συρουσαι τους χιτωνας και τοις ποσιν αμα παιζουσαι
the Lord will make the heads of the daughters of Zion bald, and the Lord will strip them of the locks of their hair.17 και ταπεινωσει ο θεος αρχουσας θυγατερας σιων και κυριος αποκαλυψει το σχημα αυτων
In that day, the Lord will take away their decorative shoes,18 εν τη ημερα εκεινη και αφελει κυριος την δοξαν του ιματισμου αυτων και τους κοσμους αυτων και τα εμπλοκια και τους κοσυμβους και τους μηνισκους
and the little moons and chains, and the necklaces and bracelets, and the hats,19 και το καθεμα και τον κοσμον του προσωπου αυτων
and the ornaments for their hair, and the anklets, and the touches of myrrh and little bottles of perfumes, and the earrings,20 και την συνθεσιν του κοσμου της δοξης και τους χλιδωνας και τα ψελια και το εμπλοκιον και τα περιδεξια και τους δακτυλιους και τα ενωτια
and the rings, and the jewels hanging on their foreheads,21 και τα περιπορφυρα και τα μεσοπορφυρα
and the continual changes in appearance, and the short skirts, and the fine linens and embroidered cloths,22 και τα επιβληματα τα κατα την οικιαν και τα διαφανη λακωνικα
and the mirrors, and scarves, and ribbons, and their sparse clothing.23 και τα βυσσινα και τα υακινθινα και τα κοκκινα και την βυσσον συν χρυσιω και υακινθω συγκαθυφασμενα και θεριστρα κατακλιτα
And in place of a sweet fragrance, there will be stench. And in place of a belt, there will be a rope. And in place of stylish hair, there will be baldness. And in place of a blouse, there will be haircloth.24 και εσται αντι οσμης ηδειας κονιορτος και αντι ζωνης σχοινιω ζωση και αντι του κοσμου της κεφαλης του χρυσιου φαλακρωμα εξεις δια τα εργα σου και αντι του χιτωνος του μεσοπορφυρου περιζωση σακκον
Likewise, your most handsome men will fall by the sword, and your strong men will fall in battle.25 και ο υιος σου ο καλλιστος ον αγαπας μαχαιρα πεσειται και οι ισχυοντες υμων μαχαιρα πεσουνται
And her gates will grieve and mourn. And she will sit on the ground, desolate.26 και ταπεινωθησονται και πενθησουσιν αι θηκαι του κοσμου υμων και καταλειφθηση μονη και εις την γην εδαφισθηση
