Sirach 42

1 You should not repeat a claim heard from the revealing of a hidden word. And then, truly, you will be without shame, and you will find favor in the sight of all men. You should not accept the reputation of someone, so that you would sin, nor should you be confounded in any of the following things:	1 Non raddoppiare le parole, che tu averai udite, della cosa occulta; sarai veracemente sanza confusione, e troverai grazia nel cospetto di tutti li uomini, e per tutte queste cose non sarai vituperato; e non adiutoriare la persona, sì che per lei pecchi.
2 in the law of the Most High and his covenant, or by giving a judgment to justify the impious;	2 Della [legge dello] Altissimo e del testamento e del giudicio e di giustificare il malvagio;
3 in a word among companions and fellow travelers, or by distributing the inheritance of friends;	3 (e guàrdati che tu non sii confuso) della parola de' compagni e de' viandanti, e del dare la ereditade delli amici;
4 in the fairness of scales and weights, or in acquiring much or little;	4 e dell' agguaglianza della stadera e de' pesi, e dello acquistamento del molto e del poco;
5 by the corruption of buying and negotiating, or in the ample discipline of children, or in causing the side of a wicked servant to bleed.	5 e della corruzione (e dello arigogliamento) della compera e de' danari; della molta disciplina de' figliuoli; del servo pessimo, il cui lato fae insanguinare.
6 A seal is good over a wicked wife.	6 Sopra malvagia femina buono è lo segno.
7 Where there are many hands, seal and deliver all things by number and weight; and truly, give and receive everything in writing.	7 E dove [son] molte mani, chiudi; e qualunque cosa tu dài, annùmerale e pesale e tolli per conto; e serva ciò che ti sia dato e hai ricevuto.
8 You should not have shame in correcting the senseless, the foolish, and those youths who would judge their elders. And so shall you be well-instructed in all things and well-approved in the sight of all the living.	8 Guàrdati dalla disciplina del disensato e del pazzo, e delli vecchi che sono sotto il giudicio dei giovani; e sarai (savio e) ammaestrato in tutte le cose, e laudabile nel conspetto di tutti gli uomini.
9 The vigilance of a father for his daughter is hidden, and his concern for her takes away his sleep. For perhaps, in her adolescence, she might be brought into adulthood. Or when she lives with her husband, she might become hateful.	9 La figliuola del padre è nascosa; la vigilia e la sollecitudine li toglierà il sonno, acciò ch' ella non diventi adulta nella giovinezza sua, e poi diventi odiosa, quando sarà dimorata con l'uomo;
10 In her virginity, she might be defiled, and then she may be found to be pregnant in her father’s house. Or perhaps, when she lives with her husband, she might stray, or at least become barren.	10 acciò che nullo tempo sia contaminata nella virginitade sua, e non si trovi gravida in casa del padre; acciò che, usata con l'uomo, non travalichi la legge, o divegna sterile.
11 Keep a close watch over a self-indulgent daughter. Otherwise, at some time, she might bring you into disgrace before your enemies, and into disrepute in the city, and into reproach among the people, and so she may confound you before the multitude of the people.	11 Conferma la guardia tua sopra la figliuola lussuriosa, acciò ch' ella mai venire non ti faccia in vituperio appo li nimici tuoi, e a dispregio nella cittade, e a viltà del popolo, e ch' ella [non] confonda te nella moltitudine delle genti.
12 She should not choose to gaze upon the beauty of every man, and she should not choose to spend her time in the midst of married women.	12 Non attendere a ogni uomo nella bellezza, e non dimorare tra le femine.
13 For a moth goes forth from garments, and iniquity over a man goes forth from a woman.	13 Però che la tignuola esce de' vestimenti, e dalla femina esce la iniquitade del marito (cioè la femina fa malo uomo).
14 Yet iniquity over a man is better for her than if a married woman, seeking to benefit her, instead leads her into confusion and disgrace.	14 Meglio è la iniquità dell' uomo, che la femina bene facente, e che la femina confondente in vituperio.
15 And now, I will remember the works of the Lord, and I will announce what I have seen. The words of the Lord are in his works.	15 Io mi ricorderò delle opere di Dio; e di quelle cose ch' io vidi annunzierò nelli sermoni del Signore le opere sue.
16 The sun illuminates and considers all things, and its work shows the fullness of the glory of the Lord.	16 Il sole alluminando per tutte le cose guardoe, e della gloria del Signore è piena l'opera sua.
17 Has not the Lord caused the holy ones to describe all his miracles, which the all-powerful Lord has firmly established in his glory?	17 Or non fece Iddio li santi parlare tutte le sue maraviglie (da non potere contare), le quali Iddio onnipotente confermoe che sieno stabilite nella gloria sua?
18 He has examined the abyss and the hearts of men. And he has considered their astuteness.	18 (Iddio onnipotente) esaminerà l'abisso e il cuore dell' uomo e la sottilidate sua.
19 For the Lord comprehends all knowledge, and he has gazed upon the signs of the times: announcing the things of the past, as well as the things of the future, and revealing the traces of hidden things.	19 Iddio pensoe ogni scienza, e guardoe nel segno del secolo, annunziando quelle cose che sono passate, e quelle che sono a venire, rivelando le vestigie delli occulti.
20 No thought passes by him unnoticed, and no word can conceal itself from him.	20 E nullo pensiero preterisce lui, e nullo sermone si nasconde da lui.
21 He has adorned the magnificent works of his wisdom. He is before eternity and even unto eternity. And nothing can be added,	21 Colui ch' è inanzi del secolo e in fino nel secolo, adornoe le grandissime cose della sua sapienza; e non è cresciuto,
22 and nothing can be taken away. And he has no need of any counselor.	22 e non iscemerae, e non ha bisogno di consiglio d'alcuno.
23 O how desirable are all his works! And all that we consider is but a spark.	23 Come sono desiderabili tutte le opere sue! sì come una favilla le possiamo considerare.
24 All these works exist, and they remain in the present age, and they all obey him in every purpose.	24 Tutte queste vivono, e permangono nel secolo; e tutte le cose ubbidiscono lui in ogni necessitade.
25 All things are two-fold, one facing another, and he has not made anything to be lacking.	25 Tutte le cose doppie; uno è contra uno; e nulla cosa fece (Iddio) mancare.
26 He has confirmed each thing as good. And who would tire of beholding his glory?	26 Elli confermoe li beni di ciascuno. E chi si sazierae vedendo la gloria sua?
