1 The understanding of David. A prayer, when he was in the cave.	1 - [Salmo] d'intelligenza. Di David, quand'era nella spelonca. Preghiera.
2 With my voice, I cried out to the Lord. With my voice, I made supplication to the Lord.	2 Con la mia voce io grido al Signore, con la mia voce il Signore io supplico.
3 In his sight, I pour out my prayer, and before him, I declare my tribulation.	3 Effondo al suo cospetto la mia preghierae la mia tribolazione dinanzi a lui racconto,
4 Though my spirit may become faint within me, even then, you have known my paths. Along this way, which I have been walking, they have hidden a snare for me.	4 mentre vien meno in me lo spirito. Ma tu conosci i miei sentieri! Sulla via per cui cammino, han nascosto un laccio per me.
5 I considered toward the right, and I looked, but there was no one who would know me. Flight has perished before me, and there is no one who has concern for my soul.	5 Guardo a destra e vedo: non c'é chi mi riconosca e si [curi di me]! È perduto [ogni] scampo per me, e non c'è chi s'occupi dell'anima mia.
6 I cried out to you, O Lord. I said: You are my hope, my portion in the land of the living.	6 Io grido a te, o Signore, io dico: «Tu sei la mia speranza [e il mio rifugio], la mia porzione sulla terra de' viventi!».
7 Attend to my supplication. For I have been humbled exceedingly. Free me from my persecutors, for they have been fortified against me.	7 Bada alla mia supplica, perchè abbattuto io sono oltremodo. Liberami da coloro che mi perseguitano, chè son più forti di me.
8 Lead my soul out of confinement in order to confess your name. The just are waiting for me, until you repay me.	8 Trai fuori dal carcere l'anima mia, perch'io celebri il tuo nome. Mi aspettano i giusti, sin che tu mi largisca [il tuo favore].
