Psalms 138

1 Unto the end. A Psalm of David. O Lord, you have examined me, and you have known me.	1 (Per la fine. Salmo di David). Signore, tu mi scruti, tu mi conosci;
2 You have known my sitting down and my rising up again.	2 O ch'io segga o che m'alzi tu lo sai.
3 You have understood my thoughts from afar. My path and my fate, you have investigated.	3 Tu conosci i miei pensieri da lontano, tu sai già il mio cammino e il corso della mia vita.
4 And you have foreseen all my ways. For there is no word in my tongue.	4 Tutte le mie vie tu l'hai prevedute, non è ancora la parola sulla mia lingua.
5 Behold, O Lord, you have known all things: the newest and the very old. You have formed me, and you have placed your hand over me.	5 E già tu, o Signore, sai tutto dalle ultime cose alle prime. Tu mi hai plasmato e hai posto sopra di me la tua mano.
6 Your knowledge has become a wonder to me. It has been reinforced, and I am not able to prevail against it.	6 La tua scienza per me è maravigliosa, è tanto elevata e non potrò arrivarci.
7 Where will I go from your Spirit? And where will I flee from your face?	7 Dove potrò sottrarmi al tuo spirito, dove fuggire dalla tua presenza?
8 If I ascend into heaven, you are there. If I descend into Hell, you are near.	8 Se salirò in cielo, tu ci sei, se scenderò nell'inferno, sei presente.
9 If I assume my feathers in early morning, and dwell in the utmost parts of the sea,	9 Se prenderò le mie penne all'aurora e andrò a stabilirmi ai confini del mare,
10 even there, your hand will lead me forth, and your right hand will hold me.	10 Anche là mi condurrà la tua mano, e mi terrà la tua destra.
11 And I said: Perhaps darkness will overwhelm me, and the night will be my illumination, to my delight.	11 Dissi: «Forse mi potran nascondere le tenebre; la notte la mia luce nelle mie delizie! »
12 But darkness will not be impenetrable to you, and night will illuminate like the day: for just as its darkness is, so also is its light.	12 Ma le tenebre non hanno oscurità per te, e la notte sarà illuminata come il giorno, il buio come la luce.
13 For you have possessed my temperament. You have supported me from the womb of my mother.	13 Tu possiedi il mio interno, ti prendesti cura di me fin dal seno di mia madre.
14 I will confess to you, for you have been magnified terribly. Your works are miraculous, as my soul knows exceedingly well.	14 Io ti esalto, perchè tu sei terribilmente grande, perchè maravigliose sono le tue opere, e ben lo riconosce l'anima mia.
15 My bone, which you have made in secret, has not been hidden from you, and my substance is in accord with the lower parts of the earth.	15 Non ti era nascosto il mio organismo che tu formasti nel segreto, nè la mia sostanza nelle viscere della terra.
16 Your eyes saw my imperfection, and all this shall be written in your book. Days will be formed, and no one shall be in them.	16 (Il corpo) mio informe gli occhi tuoi lo videro, e nel tuo libro eran scritti tutti i giorni che sarebbero venuti: non ne mancava uno.
17 But to me, O God, your friends have been greatly honored. Their first ruler has been exceedingly strengthened.	17 Da me, o Dio, sono stati grandemente onorati i tuoi amici e s'è molto invigorito il loro impero.
18 I will number them, and they will be more numerous than the sand. I rose up, and I am still with you.	18 Se vorrò contarli, son più delle arene; mi sveglio e sono ancora con te.
19 O God, if only you would cut down sinners. You men of blood: depart from me.	19 O Dio, se tu facessi morire i peccatori! Uomini di sangue, via da me!
20 For you say in thought: They will accept your cities in vain.	20 Perchè voi dite dentro di voi: « Prenderanno invano le tue città ».
21 Have I not hated those who hated you, Lord, and wasted away because of your enemies?	21 O Signore, non dovrò odiare quelli che ti odiano? E non mi struggerò a causa dei tuoi nemici?
22 I have hated them with a perfect hatred, and they have become enemies to me.	22 Li odierò con odio perfetto; essi sono i miei nemici.
23 Examine me, O God, and know my heart. Question me, and know my paths.	23 Provami, o Signore, esamina il mio cuore, interrogami ed osserva il mio cammino.
24 And see if there might be in me the way of iniquity, and lead me in the way of eternity.	24 Guarda se sono nella via dell'iniquità, e guidami nella via eterna.
