1 Die Ephraimiten wurden aufgeboten. Sie zogen nach Zaphon und sprachen zu Jephte: "Warum bist du gegen die Ammoniter zu Felde gezogen und hast uns nicht gerufen, daß wir mitgehen sollen? Wir werden dir über deinem Kopf dein Haus anstecken."	1 The men of Ephraim were called to arms, and they crossed to Zaphon and said to Jephthah, "Why did you cross over to fight against the Ammonites, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house over you with fire."
2 Jephte erwiderte ihnen: "Streit hatten ich und mein Volk wider die Ammoniter; diese bedrängten mich heftig. Da rief ich euch herbei, aber ihr halft mir nicht aus ihrer Gewalt.	2 And Jephthah said to them, "I and my people had a great feud with the Ammonites; and when I called you, you did not deliver me from their hand.
3 Ich sah, daß niemand mir zu Hilfe kam, und darum wagte ich mein Leben und zog gegen die Ammoniter, und der Herr lieferte sie meiner Gewalt aus. Warum rückt ihr denn heute gegen mich aus, um mit mir Krieg anzufangen?"	3 And when I saw that you would not deliver me, I took my life in my hand, and crossed over against the Ammonites, and the LORD gave them into my hand; why then have you come up to me this day, to fight against me?"
4 Jephte bot alle Gileaditer auf, griff die Ephraimiten an, und die Männer von Gilead schlugen die Ephraimiten; denn diese hatten gesagt: "Flüchtlinge aus Ephraim seid ihr; Gilead liegt ja in der Mitte von Ephraim und in der Mitte von Manasse."	4 Then Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, "You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim and Manasseh."
5 Gilead besetzte nun die Jordanfurten nach Ephraim zu. Wenn nun Flüchtlinge aus Ephraim sagten: "Wir möchten übersetzen", dann fragten die Männer von Gilead dagegen: "Bist du ein Ephraimit?"	5 And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. And when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, "Let me go over," the men of Gilead said to him, "Are you an Ephraimite?" When he said, "No,"
6 Antwortete er dann: "Nein", dann geboten sie ihm: "Sprich doch einmal "Schibbolet"!" Sagte er aber: "Sibbolet" - er konnte es ja nicht richtig aussprechen -, dann ergriffen sie ihn und machten ihn nieder an den Jordanfurten. So fielen damals von Ephraim 42 000 Mann.	6 they said to him, "Then say Shibboleth," and he said, "Sibboleth," for he could not pronounce it right; then they seized him and slew him at the fords of the Jordan. And there fell at that time forty-two thousand of the Ephraimites.
7 Jephte richtete Israel sechs Jahre. Dann starb Jephte aus Gilead und ward in seiner Heimatstadt in Gilead begraben.	7 Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in his city in Gilead.
8 Nach ihm richtete Ibzan aus Bethlehem Israel.	8 After him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.
9 Er hatte dreißig Söhne; dreißig Töchter vergab er nach auswärts zur Ehe, und dreißig Töchter führte er seinen Söhnen von auswärts zu. Er war sieben Jahre Richter über Israel.	9 He had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he gave in marriage outside his clan, and thirty daughters he brought in from outside for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10 Ibzan starb und ward in Bethlehem begraben.	10 Then Ibzan died, and was buried at Bethlehem.
11 Nach ihm war Elon aus Sebulun Richter über Israel. Er richtete Israel zehn Jahre.	11 After him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
12 Elon aus Sebulun starb und ward zu Ajjalon im Lande Sebulun begraben.	12 Then Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried at Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
13 Nach ihm war Abdon, der Sohn Hillels aus Piraton, Richter über Israel.	13 After him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.
14 Er hatte vierzig Söhne und dreißig Enkel, die auf siebzig Eselsfüllen ritten. Er war acht Jahre Richter über Israel.	14 He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy asses; and he judged Israel eight years.
15 Der Piratonit Abdon, der Sohn Hillels, starb und wurde in Piraton im Lande Ephraim auf dem Amalekiterberg begraben.	15 Then Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried at Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
