1 Nach Abimelech trat Tola, der Sohn Puas, der Enkel Dodos aus Issachar, auf, um Israel zu retten. Er wohnte in Schamir auf dem Gebirge Ephraim.	1 After Abimelech there arose to deliver Israel Tola the son of Puah, son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he lived at Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim.
2 Er richtete Israel dreiundzwanzig Jahre lang. Dann starb er und wurde in Schamir begraben.	2 And he judged Israel twenty-three years. Then he died, and was buried at Shamir.
3 Als sein Nachfolger trat Jaïr aus Gilead auf. Er richtete Israel zweiundzwanzig Jahre.	3 After him arose Jair the Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years.
4 Er hatte dreißig Söhne, die auf dreißig Eselsfüllen ritten. Sie besaßen dreißig feste Siedlungen. Diese heißen "Zeltdörfer Jaïrs" bis auf den heutigen Tag und liegen im Lande Gilead.	4 And he had thirty sons who rode on thirty asses; and they had thirty cities, called Havvoth-jair to this day, which are in the land of Gilead.
5 Dann starb Jaïr und wurde in Kamon begraben.	5 And Jair died, and was buried in Kamon.
6 Die Israeliten taten aufs neue, was dem Herrn mißfiel. Sie dienten den Baalen und den Astarten, den Göttern Arams, Sidons, Moabs, Ammons und den Göttern der Philister. Den Herrn verließen sie und verehrten ihn nicht.	6 And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook the LORD, and did not serve him.
7 Da entbrannte der Zorn des Herrn wider Israel. Er gab sie in die Gewalt der Philister und Ammoniter.	7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the Ammonites,
8 Diese bedrückten und quälten die Israeliten achtzehn Jahre lang, und zwar alle Israeliten jenseits des Jordans im Amoriterlande in Gilead.	8 and they crushed and oppressed the children of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
9 Die Ammoniter setzten auch über den Jordan, um wider Juda, Benjamin und das Haus Ephraim zu kämpfen. Israel kam in große Not.	9 And the Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sorely distressed.
10 Da schrieen die Israeliten zum Herrn: "Gesündigt haben wir wider dich, da wir den Herrn, unsern Gott, verließen und den Baalen dienten."	10 And the people of Israel cried to the LORD, saying, "We have sinned against thee, because we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals."
11 Der Herr erwiderte den Israeliten: "Fürwahr, die Ägypter, die Amoriter, Ammoniter, Philister,	11 And the LORD said to the people of Israel, "Did I not deliver you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites, from the Ammonites and from the Philistines?
12 Sidonier, Amalekiter und Midianiter bedrängten euch; sooft ihr aber zu mir rieft, rettete ich euch aus ihrer Gewalt.	12 The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, oppressed you; and you cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.
13 Ihr aber habt mich verlassen und andere Götter verehrt. Darum will ich euch nicht mehr retten.	13 Yet you have forsaken me and served other gods; therefore I will deliver you no more.
14 Geht und schreit zu den Göttern, die ihr euch erwählt habt! Diese mögen euch retten zur Zeit eurer Bedrängnis!"	14 Go and cry to the gods whom you have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your distress."
15 Die Israeliten erwiderten darauf dem Herrn: "Wir haben gesündigt! Handle an uns ganz so, wie es dir gut scheint, nur rette uns heute!"	15 And the people of Israel said to the LORD, "We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good to thee; only deliver us, we pray thee, this day."
16 Sie entfernten also die fremdländischen Götzen aus ihrer Mitte und dienten wieder dem Herrn. Da ward er gerührt vom Jammer Israels.	16 So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD; and he became indignant over the misery of Israel.
17 Die Söhne Ammons wurden aufgeboten und lagerten in Gilead; die Israeliten aber scharten sich zusammen und schlugen ihr Lager in Mizpa auf.	17 Then the Ammonites were called to arms, and they encamped in Gilead; and the people of Israel came together, and they encamped at Mizpah.
18 Da sagten die Leute, die Fürsten von Gilead, zueinander: "Wer ist der Mann, der den Kampf gegen die Ammoniter eröffnet? Er werde das Oberhaupt aller Bewohner Gileads!"	18 And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said one to another, "Who is the man that will begin to fight against the Ammonites? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead."
