1 Jeder, der glaubt, daß Jesus ist der Christus (Messias), ist aus Gott geboren, und jeder, der den Vater liebt,liebt auch den, der aus ihm geboren ist.	1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
2 Daran erkennen wir, daß wir Gottes Kinder lieben, wenn wir Gott lieben und seine Gebote erfüllen.	2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3 Denn das ist die Liebe zu Gott, daß wir seine Gebote wahren; seine Gebote aber sind nicht schwer;	3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4 denn alles, was geboren ist aus Gott, überwindet die Welt; und das ist der Sieg, der die Welt überwand: unser Glaube.	4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 Wer ist es, der die Welt überwindet, wenn nicht jener, der glaubt, daß Jesus der Sohn Gottes ist?	5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 Dieser ist es, der gekommen ist durch Wasser und Blut [und Geist], Jesus Christus, nicht im Wasser allein, sondern im Wasser und im Blut. Und der Geist ist es, der Zeugnis gibt; denn der Geist ist die Wahrheit.	6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7 Denn drei sind es, die Zeugnis geben [im Himmel: der Vater, das Wort und der Heilige Geist; und diese drei sind eins.	7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 Und drei sind, die Zeugnis geben auf Erden]: der Geist und das Wasser und das Blut, und diese drei beziehen sich auf das Eine.	8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
9 Nehmen wir schon das Zeugnis der Menschen an - das Zeugnis Gottes ist größer; denn dies ist das Zeugnis Gottes, [das größer ist,] daß er Zeugnis gab von seinem Sohne.	9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
10 Wer an den Sohn Gottes glaubt, der hat dieses Zeugnis in sich. Wer Gott nicht glaubt, der hat ihn zum Lügner gemacht, weil er nicht an das Zeugnis glaubte, mit dem Gott Zeugnis gab von seinem Sohne.	10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
11 Und dies ist das Zeugnis, daß uns Gott ewiges Leben gab, und dieses Leben ist in seinem Sohne.	11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 Wer den Sohn hat, der hat das Leben; wer den Sohn nicht hat, der hat das Leben nicht.	12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 Dies schrieb ich euch, damit ihr wißt, daß ihr ewiges Leben habt, die ihr glaubt an den Namen des Sohnes Gottes.	13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
14 Und dies ist die Zuversicht, die wir zu ihm haben, daß er uns erhört, wenn wir seinem Willen gemäß um etwas bitten.	14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 Und wissen wir, daß er uns erhört, wenn wir ihn um etwas bitten, dann wissen wir auch, daß wir schon im Besitz des Erbetenen sind, um das wir ihn gebeten haben.	15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
16 Wenn einer seinen Bruder eine Sünde begehen sieht, die nicht zum Tode ist, so bete er, und er wird ihm das Leben geben, freilich nur solchen, deren Sünde nicht zum Tode ist. Es gibt eine Sünde zum Tode; nicht von der sage ich, daß er beten soll.	16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
17 Alles Unrecht ist Sünde, doch gibt es Sünde, die nicht zum Tode ist.	17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
18 Wir wissen: jeder aus Gott Geborene sündigt nicht, sondern der aus Gott Geborene bewahrt ihn, und der Böse rührt ihn nicht an.	18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
19 Wir wissen, daß wir aus Gott sind, die Welt aber liegt ganz im Bösen.	19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
20 Wir wissen, daß der Sohn Gottes gekommen ist und uns Einsicht gegeben hat, den Wahrhaften zu erkennen; und wir sind im Wahrhaften: in seinem Sohn Jesus Christus. Dieser ist der wahrhafte Gott und ewiges Leben.	20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
21 Kindlein, hütet euch vor den Götzen! [Amen.]	21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
