1 Und er brach auf von dort und zog in das Gebiet von Judäa und jenseits des Jordans, und wieder strömten sie in Scharen zu ihm, und wieder lehrte er sie, wie er gewohnt war.	1 And he left there and went to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds gathered to him again; and again, as his custom was, he taught them.
2 Und es traten Pharisäer heran und fragten ihn: "Ist es einem Mann erlaubt, seine Frau zu entlassen?" Sie stellten ihn so auf die Probe.	2 And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"
3 Er aber antwortete ihnen: "Was hat euch Moses geboten?"	3 He answered them, "What did Moses command you?"
4 Sie sagten: "Moses hat erlaubt, einen Scheidebrief zu schreiben und die Frau zu entlassen" (5Mos 24,1).	4 They said, "Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to put her away."
5 Jesus erwiderte ihnen: "Eurer Herzenshärte wegen schrieb er für euch dieses Gebot.	5 But Jesus said to them, "For your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.
6 Von Anfang der Schöpfung aber "schuf Gott sie als Mann und Frau" (1Mos 1,27).	6 But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.'
7 "Deshalb wird ein Mann seinen Vater und seine Mutter verlassen [und seiner Frau anhangen],	7 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
8 und die zwei werden ein Fleisch sein" (1Mos 2,24). Sie sind also nicht mehr zwei, sondern ein Fleisch.	8 and the two shall become one.' So they are no longer two but one.
9 Was nun Gott verbunden hat, das soll ein Mensch nicht trennen."	9 What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder."
10 Zu Hause befragten ihn seine Jünger nochmals darüber,	10 And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter.
11 und er sprach zu ihnen: "Wer seine Frau entläßt und eine andere heiratet, der bricht an ihr die Ehe.	11 And he said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another, commits adultery against her;
12 Und wenn sie ihren Mann entläßt und einen anderen heiratet, bricht sie die Ehe."	12 and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery."
13 Und sie brachten Kinder zu ihm, daß er sie berühre. Die Jünger aber verwiesen es ihnen.	13 And they were bringing children to him, that he might touch them; and the disciples rebuked them.
14 Als Jesus das sah, wurde er unwillig und sprach zu ihnen: "Laßt die Kinder zu mir kommen und wehrt es ihnen nicht; denn für solche ist das Reich Gottes.	14 But when Jesus saw it he was indignant, and said to them, "Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
15 Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer das Reich Gottes nicht annimmt wie ein Kind, wird nicht hineinkommen."	15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it."
16 Und er schloß sie in die Arme, legte ihnen die Hände auf und segnete sie.	16 And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands upon them.
17 Als er sich auf den Weg machte, lief einer herbei, kniete vor ihm nieder und fragte ihn: "Guter Meister! Was muß ich tun, daß ich ewiges Leben erlange?"	17 And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
18 Jesus antwortete ihm: "Was nennst du mich gut? Niemand ist gut als Gott allein.	18 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.
19 Du kennst die Gebote: "Du sollst nicht töten; du sollst nicht ehebrechen; du sollst nicht stehlen; du sollst nicht falsches Zeugnis geben; du sollst nicht betrügen; ehre deinen Vater und deine Mutter" (2Mos 20,12-16)."	19 You know the commandments: 'Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.'"
20 Der aber entgegnete ihm: "Meister, dies alles habe ich gehalten von meiner Jugend an."	20 And he said to him, "Teacher, all these I have observed from my youth."
21 Jesus blickte ihn an, und von Liebe zu ihm erfüllt, sagte er zu ihm: "Eines fehlt dir noch; geh hin, verkaufe alles, was du hast, und gib es den Armen, und du wirst einen Schatz haben im Himmel; dann komm und folge mir nach!"	21 And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said to him, "You lack one thing; go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
22 Jener aber war betroffen über dieses Wort und ging betrübt davon; denn er besaß viele Güter.	22 At that saying his countenance fell, and he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions.
23 Jesus blickte um sich und sagte zu seinen Jüngern: "Wie schwer werden die Begüterten in das Reich Gottes eingehen!"	23 And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it will be for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!"
24 Die Jünger waren bestürzt über seine Worte. Da wandte sich Jesus nochmals an sie und sprach: "Kinder, wie schwer ist es doch, daß solche, die auf Reichtum bauen, in das Reich Gottes eingehen!	24 And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!
25 Leichter ist es, daß ein Kamel durch ein Nadelöhr geht, als daß ein Reicher in das Reich Gottes eingeht!"	25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
26 Da wurden sie noch bestürzter und sagten zueinander: "Wer kann dann gerettet werden?"	26 And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, "Then who can be saved?"
27 Jesus blickte sie an und sprach: "Bei Menschen ist es unmöglich, aber nicht bei Gott; denn "bei Gott ist alles möglich" (1Mos 18,14)."	27 Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God."
28 Da nahm Petrus das Wort und sagte zu ihm: "Siehe, wir haben alles verlassen und sind dir nachgefolgt!"	28 Peter began to say to him, "Lo, we have left everything and followed you."
29 Jesus antwortete: "Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Niemand hat Haus oder Brüder oder Schwestern oder Mutter oder Vater oder Kinder oder Äcker um meinetwillen oder um des Evangeliums willen verlassen,	29 Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel,
30 der nicht Hundertfaches dafür erhält, jetzt in dieser Welt Häuser und Brüder und Schwestern und Mütter und Kinder und Äcker, freilich unter Verfolgungen, in der kommenden Welt jedoch ewiges Leben.	30 who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.
31 Viele Erste aber werden Letzte sein und die Letzten Erste."	31 But many that are first will be last, and the last first."
32 Als sie nun den Weg hinaufzogen nach Jerusalem, schritt Jesus ihnen voran; sie staunten und gingen, von Furcht ergriffen, hinterher. Da nahm er abermals die Zwölf zu sich heran und begann, ihnen zu sagen, was ihm bevorstehe:	32 And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him,
33 "Seht, wir ziehen hinauf nach Jerusalem, und der Menschensohn wird den Hohenpriestern und den Schriftgelehrten [und Ältesten] überliefert werden, und sie werden ihn zum Tode verurteilen und an die Heiden ausliefern.	33 saying, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles;
34 Sie werden ihn verspotten und anspeien, ihn geißeln und töten; nach drei Tagen aber wird er auferstehen."	34 and they will mock him, and spit upon him, and scourge him, and kill him; and after three days he will rise."
35 Es traten zu ihm Jakobus und Johannes, die Söhne des Zebedäus, und sagten: "Meister, wir möchten, daß du uns gewährst, um was wir dich bitten."	35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him, and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you."
36 Er sprach zu ihnen: "Was möchtet ihr, daß ich es euch gewähre?"	36 And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?"
37 Sie sagten zu ihm: "Verleih uns. daß wir, einer zu deiner Rechten, einer zu deiner Linken, sitzen in deiner Herrlichkeit!"	37 And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory."
38 Jesus sprach zu ihnen: "Ihr wißt nicht, um was ihr bittet. Könnt ihr den Kelch trinken, den ich trinke, oder mit der Taufe getauft werden, mit der ich getauft werde?"	38 But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?"
39 Sie sagten zu ihm: "Wir können es." Jesus sprach zu ihnen: "Den Kelch, den ich trinke, werdet ihr trinken, und mit der Taufe, mit der ich getauft werde, werdet ihr getauft werden;	39 And they said to him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized;
40 doch das Sitzen zu meiner Rechten oder Linken habe nicht ich zu vergeben, sondern ist für die, denen es bereitet ist."	40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared."
41 Als die Zehn es hörten, fingen sie an, unwillig zu werden über Jakobus und Johannes.	41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John.
42 Jesus aber rief sie zu sich und sprach zu ihnen: "Ihr wißt, daß jene, die als Herrscher der Völker gelten, den Herren spielen über sie, und daß ihre Großen sie ihre Macht spüren lassen.	42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, "You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.
43 Nicht so soll es sein unter euch; sondern wer ein Großer sein will unter euch, der sei euer Diener;	43 But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant,
44 und wer unter euch der Erste sein will, der sei der Knecht aller.	44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all.
45 Denn auch der Menschensohn ist nicht gekommen, sich bedienen zu lassen, sondern zu dienen und sein Leben hinzugeben als Lösepreis für viele."	45 For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
46 Sie kamen nach Jericho, und als er von Jericho weiterzog mit seinen Jüngern und zahlreichem Volk, saß der Sohn des Timäus, Bartimäus, ein blinder Bettler, am Wege.	46 And they came to Jericho; and as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside.
47 Als er hörte, es sei Jesus, der Nazarener, begann er zu schreien: "Sohn Davids, Jesus, erbarme dich meiner!"	47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
48 Viele begannen, ihn zu schelten, er solle doch schweigen; er aber schrie noch viel mehr: "Sohn Davids, erbarme dich meiner!"	48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
49 Jesus blieb stehen und sprach: "Ruft ihn her!" Und sie riefen den Blinden und sagten zu ihm: "Sei guten Mutes; steh auf, er ruft dich."	49 And Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." And they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take heart; rise, he is calling you."
50 Da warf er seinen Mantel ab, sprang auf und ging zu Jesus hin.	50 And throwing off his mantle he sprang up and came to Jesus.
51 Und Jesus wandte sich an ihn und sprach: "Was willst du, daß ich dir tun soll?" Der Blinde sagte zu ihm: "Rabbuni, ich möchte wieder sehen."	51 And Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" And the blind man said to him, "Master, let me receive my sight."
52 Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: "Geh hin, dein Glaube hat dir geholfen." Und sogleich sah er wieder und folgte ihm auf dem Wege.	52 And Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.
