Matthäus 14

1 In jener Zeit hörte der Fürst Herodes die Kunde von Jesus und sagte zu seinen Leuten:	1 In that time, Herod the Tetrarch heard the news about Jesus.
2 "Das ist Johannes der Täufer; er wurde von den Toten auferweckt, und darum wirken die Wunderkräfte in ihm."	2 And he said to his servants: “This is John the Baptist. He has risen from the dead, and that is why miracles are at work in him.”
3 Herodes hatte nämlich den Johannes ergreifen, fesseln und ins Gefängnis setzen lassen wegen der Herodias, der Frau seines Bruders Philippus.	3 For Herod had apprehended John, and bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, the wife of his brother.
4 Denn Johannes hatte zu ihm gesagt: "Es ist dir nicht erlaubt, sie zu haben."	4 For John was telling him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”
5 Er wollte ihn töten, doch fürchtete er das Volk, weil es ihn für einen Propheten hielt.	5 And though he wanted to kill him, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet.
6 Am Geburtstag des Herodes aber tanzte die Tochter der Herodias inmitten der Gäste und fand das Wohlgefallen des Herodes.	6 Then, on Herod’s birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced in their midst, and it pleased Herod.
7 Deshalb versprach er ihr mit einem Schwur, er wolle ihr geben, was sie auch begehren werde.	7 And so he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask of him.
8 Sie aber, von ihrer Mutter angestiftet, sagte: "Gib mir auf dieser Schüssel hier das Haupt des Johannes des Täufers!"	8 But, having been advised by her mother, she said, “Give me here, on a platter, the head of John the Baptist.”
9 Da wurde der König bedrückt; jedoch um der Schwüre und der Tischgenossen willen befahl er, es ihr zu geben.	9 And the king was greatly saddened. But because of his oath, and because of those who sat at table with him, he ordered it to be given.
10 Und er sandte hin und ließ Johannes im Kerker enthaupten;	10 And he sent and beheaded John in prison.
11 sein Haupt aber wurde auf einer Schüssel gebracht und dem Mädchen gegeben, und sie brachte es ihrer Mutter.	11 And his head was brought on a platter, and it was given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.
12 Da kamen seine Jünger, nahmen seinen Leib, begruben ihn und gingen hin und meldeten es Jesus.	12 And his disciples approached and took the body, and they buried it. And arriving, they reported it to Jesus.
13 Als Jesus das hörte, zog er sich von dort in einem Schiff zurück an einen einsamen Ort, ganz für sich allein. Die Volksscharen aber erfuhren es und folgten ihm zu Fuß aus den Städten nach.	13 When Jesus had heard it, he withdrew from there by boat, to a deserted place by himself. And when the crowds had heard of it, they followed him on foot from the cities.
14 Als er ausstieg, sah er das viele Volk, bekam Mitleid mit ihnen und machte ihre Kranken gesund.	14 And going out, he saw a great multitude, and he took pity on them, and he cured their sick.
15 Bei Anbruch des Abends traten seine Jünger zu ihm und sagten: "Die Gegend ist abgelegen, und die Zeit ist vorgeschritten; entlasse das Volk, daß es in die Dörfer gehe und sich etwas zum Essen kaufe!"	15 And when evening had arrived, his disciples approached him, saying: “This is a deserted place, and the hour has now passed. Dismiss the crowds, so that, by going into the towns, they may buy food for themselves.”
16 Jesus aber sprach zu ihnen: "Sie haben nicht nötig, wegzugehen; gebt ihr ihnen zu essen!"	16 But Jesus said to them: “They have no need to go. Give them something to eat yourselves.”
17 Sie antworteten ihm: "Wir haben nur fünf Brote hier und zwei Fische."	17 They answered him, “We have nothing here, except five loaves and two fish.”
18 Da sprach er: "Bringt sie mir her!"	18 He said to them, “Bring them here to me.”
19 Und er ließ das Volk auf dem Rasen sich lagern, nahm die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, blickte zum Himmel auf, sprach den Segen, brach die Brote und gab sie den Jüngern; die Jünger aber gaben sie dem Volke.	19 And when he had ordered the multitude to sit down upon the grass, he took the five loaves and the two fish, and gazing up to heaven, he blessed and broke and gave the bread to the disciples, and then the disciples to the multitudes.
20 Und sie aßen alle und wurden satt, und sie hoben von dem, was an angebrochenen Stücken übrigblieb, zwölf Körbe voll auf.	20 And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up the remnants: twelve baskets full of fragments.
21 Es waren derer, die gegessen hatten, etwa fünftausend Männer, Frauen und Kinder nicht gerechnet.	21 Now the number of those who ate was five thousand men, besides women and children.
22 Sogleich drängte Jesus seine Jünger, in das Schiff zu steigen und ihm an das andere Ufer vorauszufahren, bis er das Volk entlassen habe.	22 And Jesus promptly compelled his disciples to climb into the boat, and to precede him in crossing the sea, while he dismissed the crowds.
23 Nach Entlassung des Volkes stieg er für sich allein auf den Berg, um zu beten; als es schon spät wurde, war er allein noch dort.	23 And having dismissed the multitude, he ascended alone onto a mountain to pray. And when evening arrived, he was alone there.
24 Das Schiff hatte sich schon viele Stadien vom Lande entfernt und wurde von den Wogen sehr bedrängt; denn es herrschte Gegenwind.	24 But in the midst of the sea, the boat was being tossed about by the waves. For the wind was against them.
25 Um die vierte Nachtwache jedoch kam er, auf dem See einhergehend, zu ihnen.	25 Then, in the fourth watch of the night, he came to them, walking upon the sea.
26 Als die Jünger ihn auf dem See einhergehen sahen, entsetzten sie sich in der Meinung, es sei ein Gespenst, und vor Furcht schrien sie.	26 And seeing him walking upon the sea, they were disturbed, saying: “It must be an apparition.” And they cried out, because of fear.
27 Sogleich aber redete Jesus sie an: "Seid getrost; ich bin es! Fürchtet euch nicht!"	27 And immediately, Jesus spoke to them, saying: “Have faith. It is I. Do not be afraid.”
28 Da entgegnete ihm Petrus und sprach: "Herr, wenn du es bist, so laß mich hinkommen zu dir über das Wasser!"	28 Then Peter responded by saying, “Lord, if it is you, order me come to you over the waters.”
29 Er sagte: "Komm!" Und Petrus stieg aus dem Schiff, ging über das Wasser und kam auf Jesus zu.	29 And he said, “Come.” And Peter, descending from the boat, walked over the water, so as to go to Jesus.
30 Als er aber den starken Wind sah, fürchtete er sich, und da er anfing zu sinken, rief er: "Herr, hilf mir!"	30 Yet truly, seeing that the wind was strong, he was afraid. And as he began to sink, he cried out, saying: “Lord, save me.”
31 Sogleich streckte Jesus seine Hand aus, ergriff ihn und sagte zu ihm: "Du Kleingläubiger! Warum hast du gezweifelt?"	31 And immediately Jesus extended his hand and took hold of him. And he said to him, “O little in faith, why did you doubt?”
32 Und da sie in das Schiff gestiegen waren, legte sich der Wind.	32 And when they had ascended into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 Die aber im Schiffe waren, fielen vor ihm nieder und sagten: "Wahrlich, du bist Gottes Sohn!"	33 Then those who were in the boat drew near and adored him, saying: “Truly, you are the Son of God.”
34 Als sie hinübergefahren waren, gingen sie in Genesareth an Land.	34 And having crossed the sea, they arrived in the land of Genesaret.
35 Da die Leute jenes Ortes ihn erkannten, schickten sie in der ganzen Gegend umher, und man brachte alle Kranken zu ihm,	35 And when the men of that place had recognized him, they sent into all that region, and they brought to him all who had maladies.
36 und sie baten ihn, nur den Saum seines Kleides anrühren zu dürfen; und alle, die ihn anrührten, wurden gesund.	36 And they petitioned him, so that they might touch even the hem of his garment. And as many as touched it were made whole.
