Exodus 33

1 Der Herr sprach zu Moses: "Auf, ziehe fort von hier, du und das Volk, das du aus dem Ägypterland geführt hast, in das Land, das ich dem Abraham, Isaak und Jakob eidlich zugesichert habe mit den Worten: Deiner Nachkommenschaft will ich es geben!	1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Leave, move on from here, you and the people whom you have broughthere from Egypt, to the country that I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give to their descendants.
2 Ich will einen Engel vor dir hersenden und die Kanaaniter, Amoriter, Hethiter, Perissiter, Hiwwiter und Jebusiter vertreiben.	2 I shal send an angel in front of you and drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, thePerizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites.
3 Ich will dich in ein Land bringen, das von Milch und Honig fließt. Ich selbst kann nicht in deiner Mitte hinaufziehen, denn du bist ein halsstarriges Volk; sonst müßte ich dich unterwegs vertilgen."	3 Move on towards a country flowing with milk and honey, but I myself shal not be going with you or Imight annihilate you on the way, for you are an obstinate people.'
4 Als das Volk diese schlimme Botschaft hörte, da hüllte es sich in Trauer, und niemand wollte mehr seinen Schmuck anlegen.	4 On hearing these stern words the people went into mourning and no one wore his ornaments.
5 Da sprach der Herr zu Moses: "Sage den Israeliten: Ihr seid ein halsstarriges Volk! Zöge ich auch nur einen Augenblick mit dir, so würde ich dich vertilgen. Jetzt aber lege deinen Schmuck von dir ab, alsdann werde ich sehen, was ich mit dir tun werde!"	5 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Say to the Israelites, "You are an obstinate people. If I were to go withyou even for a moment, I should annihilate you. So now take off your ornaments, and then I shal decide how todeal with you!" '
6 Da entledigten sich die Israeliten vom Berge Horeb an ihres Schmuckes.	6 So, from Mount Horeb onwards, the Israelites stripped themselves of their ornaments.
7 Moses nahm das Zelt und schlug es außerhalb des Lagers in einiger Entfernung von ihm auf; er nannte es "Zelt der Offenbarung (Begegnung)". Jeder, der den Herrn befragen wollte, ging zum Offenbarungszelte, das sich außerhalb des Lagers befand.	7 Moses used to take the Tent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp. He called it theTent of Meeting. Anyone who wanted to consult Yahweh would go out to the Tent of Meeting, outside the camp.
8 Ging Moses zum Zelt hinaus, erhob sich das ganze Volk. Jeder stellte sich an seinen Zelteingang und schaute dem Moses nach, bis er ins Zelt eingetreten war.	8 Whenever Moses went out to the Tent, the people would al stand up and every man would stand atthe door of his tent and watch Moses until he went into the Tent.
9 Sobald aber Moses das Zelt betrat, ließ sich die Wolkensäule herab und stand am Zelteingang, und Gott sprach mit Moses.	9 And whenever Moses went into the Tent, the pil ar of cloud would come down and station itself at theentrance to the Tent, while Yahweh spoke with Moses.
10 Das Volk sah die Wolkensäule am Zelteingang stehen. Da erhoben sich alle Leute und warfen sich an ihrem Zelteingang voll Ehrfurcht nieder.	10 The people could al see the pil ar of cloud stationed at the entrance to the Tent and the people wouldal stand up and bow low, each at the door of his tent.
11 Der Herr redete mit Moses von Angesicht zu Angesicht, wie jemand mit seinem Freund redet. Er kehrte dann ins Lager zurück. Sein Diener Josua aber, der Sohn des Nun, der noch ein Jüngling war, wich nicht vom Zelt.	11 Yahweh would talk to Moses face to face, as a man talks to his friend, and afterwards he would comeback to the camp, but the young man who was his servant, Joshua son of Nun, never left the inside of the Tent.
12 Moses sprach zum Herrn: "Siehe, du befiehlst mir: "Führe dieses Volk hinauf!" Doch hast du mir nicht mitgeteilt, wen du mit mir senden willst. Dabei hast du mir doch selbst gesagt: "Ich kenne dich mit Namen" und: "Du hast Gnade in meinen Augen gefunden."	12 Moses said to Yahweh, 'Look, you say to me, "Make the people move on," but you have not told mewhom you are going to send with me, although you have said, "I know you by name and you enjoy my favour."
13 Nun denn, wenn ich in deinen Augen Gnade gefunden habe, so lasse mich doch deine Wege wissen, damit ich dich kenne, und um wirklich in deinen Augen Gnade zu finden! Berücksichtige auch, daß dieses Volk dein Volk ist!"	13 If indeed I enjoy your favour, please show me your ways, so that I understand you and continue toenjoy your favour; consider too that this nation is your people.'
14 Er antwortete: "Wenn ich persönlich mit dir ziehe, werde ich dich dann zufriedenstellen?"	14 Yahweh then said, 'I myself shall go with you and I shall give you rest.'
15 Moses versicherte ihm: "Wenn du nicht persönlich mitziehst, dann laß uns lieber überhaupt nicht von hier hinaufziehen!	15 To which he said, 'If you do not come yourself, do not make us move on from here,
16 Woran soll man denn erkennen, daß ich Gnade in deinen Augen gefunden habe, ich und dein Volk? Nicht daran, daß du mit uns ziehst, wodurch wir, ich und dein Volk, vor allen andern Völkern auf Erden ausgezeichnet werden?"	16 for how can it be known that I and my people enjoy your favour, if not by your coming with us? By thiswe shal be marked out, I and your people, from al the peoples on the face of the earth.'
17 Der Herr erwiderte dem Moses: "Auch das, wonach du eben begehrt hast, will ich tun; denn du hast Gnade in meinen Augen gefunden, und ich kenne dich mit Namen!"	17 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Again I shal do what you have asked, because you enjoy my favourand because I know you by name.'
18 Darauf bat er: "Zeige mir doch deine Herrlichkeit!"	18 He then said, 'Please show me your glory.'
19 Der Herr entgegnete: "Ich will all meinen Reichtum an dir vorüberziehen lassen und den Namen des Herrn vor dir ausrufen: Ich bin gütig, wem ich gütig bin, und erbarme mich dessen, wessen ich mich erbarme."	19 Yahweh said, 'I shal make al my goodness pass before you, and before you I shal pronounce thename Yahweh; and I am gracious to those to whom I am gracious and I take pity on those on whom I take pity.
20 Dann fuhr er fort: "Doch mein Angesicht kannst du nicht schauen; denn kein Mensch kann mich schauen und dabei am Leben bleiben!"	20 But my face', he said, 'you cannot see, for no human being can see me and survive.'
21 Der Herr sprach aber: "Siehe, hier in meiner Nähe ist ein Platz, da stelle dich auf den Felsen!	21 Then Yahweh said, 'Here is a place near me. You will stand on the rock,
22 Wenn meine Herrlichkeit vorüberzieht, stelle ich dich in die Felsenhöhle und bedecke dich mit meiner Hand, bis ich vorüber bin.	22 and when my glory passes by, I shal put you in a cleft of the rock and shield you with my hand until Ihave gone past.
23 Nehme ich dann meine Hand weg, so kannst du meine Rückseite schauen. Doch mein Angesicht darf man nicht schauen."	23 Then I shal take my hand away and you will see my back; but my face wil not be seen.'
