1 Manasse war zwölf Jahre alt, als er zu herrschen begann. Er regierte fünfundfünfzig Jahre in Jerusalem.	1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for fifty-five years inJerusalem.
2 Er tat, was dem Herrn mißfiel, entsprechend den Greueln der Völker, die der Herr vor den Israeliten vertrieben hatte.	2 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, copying the disgusting practices of the nations whom Yahwehhad dispossessed for the Israelites.
3 Er baute die Opferhöhen wieder auf, die sein Vater Hiskia niedergerissen hatte, errichtete Altäre für die Baale, verfertigte Ascheren, verehrte das gesamte Himmelsheer und diente ihm.	3 He rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had demolished, he set up altars to Baal andmade sacred poles, he worshipped the whole array of heaven and served it.
4 Er stellte Altäre im Haus des Herrn auf, von dem doch der Herr gesagt hatte: "Mein Name bleibe in Jerusalem für immer."	4 He built altars in the Temple of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, 'My name wil be in Jerusalem forever.'
5 Für das ganze Himmelsheer baute er Altäre in den beiden Vorhöfen des Hauses des Herrn.	5 He built altars to the whole array of heaven in the two courts of the Temple of Yahweh.
6 Er ließ sogar seine Söhne im Tal Ben-Hinnom durch das Feuer gehen, betrieb Zauberei, Wahrsagerei und Beschwörung, bestellte Totenbeschwörer und Zeichendeuter. Vieles tat er, was dem Herrn mißfiel, um ihn zu beleidigen.	6 He caused his sons to pass through the fire of sacrifice in the Val ey of Ben-Hinnom. He practisedsoothsaying, divination and sorcery, and had dealings with mediums and spirit-guides. He did very many morethings displeasing to Yahweh, thus provoking his anger.
7 Das Schnitzbild, das er verfertigt hatte, stellte er in den Tempel Gottes, von dem doch Gott zu David und zu dessen Sohn Salomo gesagt hatte: "In diesem Hause und in Jerusalem, das ich aus allen Stämmen Israels erwählt habe, lasse ich meinen Namen wohnen für immer.	7 He put a sculpted image, an idol which he had had made, inside the Temple of which God had said toDavid and his son Solomon, 'In this Temple and in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of al the tribes ofIsrael, I shal put my name for ever.
8 Ich will den Fuß Israels nicht mehr vom Boden entfernen, den ich euren Vätern verlieh. Nur müssen sie darauf achten, alles zu tun, was ich ihnen im ganzen Gesetz, in den Vorschriften und Satzungen durch Moses geboten habe."	8 Nor shal I ever again remove Israel's foot from the soil on which I established your ancestors oncondition that they were careful to observe al I commanded them as laid down in the whole Law, the statutesand the ordinances, given through Moses.'
9 Jedoch Manasse verführte Juda und die Bewohner Jerusalems, Schlimmeres zu tun als die Völker, die der Herr vor den Israeliten vertilgt hatte.	9 But Manasseh misled Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem into doing worse things than the nationswhich Yahweh had destroyed for the Israelites.
10 Der Herr gab Warnungen an Manasse und sein Volk, doch sie achteten nicht darauf.	10 When Yahweh spoke to Manasseh and his people, they would not listen.
11 Da ließ der Herr die Heeresobersten des Königs von Assur gegen sie auftreten. Diese nahmen den Manasse mit Haken fest, fesselten ihn mit Ketten und führten ihn nach Babel.	11 Yahweh then brought down on them the generals of the king of Assyria's army who capturedManasseh with hooks, put him in chains and took him to Babylon.
12 Als er sich so in Bedrängnis befand, versuchte er, das Antlitz des Herrn, seines Gottes, zu besänftigen, indem er sich vor dem Gott seiner Väter tief demütigte.	12 While in his distress, he placated Yahweh his God by genuinely humbling himself before the God ofhis ancestors.
13 Er wandte sich im Gebet an ihn, und der Herr ließ sich von ihm erbitten. Er hörte sein Flehen und brachte ihn als König nach Jerusalem zurück. So erkannte Manasse, daß der Herr der wahre Gott ist.	13 When he prayed to him, he was moved by his entreaty, heard his supplication and brought him backto Jerusalem to his kingdom. Manasseh realised then that Yahweh is God.
14 Danach erbaute er eine äußere Mauer für die Davidsstadt, westlich vom Gichon im Tal gegen das Fischtor zu und rings um den Ophel. Er machte sie sehr hoch. In allen befestigten Städten Judas stellte er Heeresoberste auf.	14 Afterwards, he rebuilt the outer wall of the City of David, to the west of Gihon, in the val ey, up to theFish Gate and round the Ophel, and made it very much higher. And he stationed military governors in al thefortified towns of Judah.
15 Auch beseitigte er die fremdländischen Götter und das Standbild aus dem Hause des Herrn, ferner die Altäre, die er auf dem Berg des Hauses des Herrn und in Jerusalem errichtet hatte. Er warf sie vor die Stadt hinaus.	15 He also removed the foreign gods and the idol from the Temple of Yahweh, as well as all the altarswhich he had built on the mountain of the Temple of Yahweh and in Jerusalem, and threw them out of the city.
16 Den Altar des Herrn aber stellte er wieder her, brachte darauf Fried- und Dankopfer dar und erteilte Juda den Befehl, dem Herrn als dem Gott Israels zu dienen.	16 He repaired the altar of Yahweh and offered communion sacrifices and thanksgiving offerings on it,and commanded Judah to serve Yahweh, God of Israel.
17 Indessen opferte das Volk immer noch auf den Höhen, allerdings nur dem Herrn, seinem Gott.	17 The people, however, went on sacrificing at the high places, although only to Yahweh their God.
18 Die übrige Geschichte Manasses, sein Gebet zu seinem Gott und die Worte der Seher, die im Namen des Herrn, des Gottes Israels, zu ihm sprachen, stehen in der Chronik von Israel.	18 The rest of the history of Manasseh, his prayer to his God, and the prophecies of the seers whospoke to him in the name of Yahweh, God of Israel, can be found in the Annals of the Kings of Israel.
19 Sein Gebet und wie es Erhörung fand, alle seine Sünden und treulosen Taten, die Orte, an denen er vor seiner Demütigung Höhen errichtete und Ascheren und Bildwerke aufstellen ließ, sind niedergeschrieben in der Chronik seiner Seher.	19 His prayer and how God was moved by his entreaty, all his sins, his infidelity, the sites where he builthigh places and set up sacred poles and idols before humbling himself, are set down in the records of Hozai.
20 Manasse entschlief zu seinen Vätern, und man begrub ihn im Garten seines Hauses. Sein Sohn Amon folgte ihm in der Königsherrschaft.	20 Then Manasseh fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the garden of his palace. His sonAmon succeeded him.
21 Amon war zweiundzwanzig Jahre alt, als er zu herrschen begann; zwei Jahre lang regierte er als König in Jerusalem.	21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for two years inJerusalem.
22 Er vollbrachte, was dem Herrn mißfiel, wie sein Vater Manasse getan hatte. Amon opferte allen Bildern, die sein Vater Manasse hergestellt hatte, und diente ihnen.	22 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, as his father Manasseh had done, for Amon sacrificed to althe images which his father Manasseh had made, and served them.
23 Aber er demütigte sich nicht vor dem Herrn wie sein Vater Manasse, sondern er - Amon - vermehrte die Schuld noch weiter.	23 He did not humble himself before Yahweh as his father Manasseh had done; on the contrary, Amonwilfully added to his guilt.
24 Wider ihn zettelten seine Diener eine Verschwörung an und töteten ihn in seinem Haus.	24 His retinue plotted against him and killed him in his own palace.
25 Die Landesbürger aber erschlugen alle, die sich gegen den König Amon verschworen hatten, und erhoben seinen Sohn Josia zum König an seiner Statt.	25 The people of the country, however, slaughtered al those who had plotted against King Amon andproclaimed his son Josiah as his successor.
