1 Danach ereignete sich folgendes: Absalom verschaffte sich Wagen und Pferde und fünfzig Leute, die vor ihm herlaufen sollten.	1 After this Absalom got himself a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run before him.
2 Des Morgens in der Frühe stellte sich Absalom an den Torweg. Hatte jemand einen Streit, und wandte er sich an den König zur Entscheidung, so sprach Absalom ihn an und fragte: "Aus welcher Stadt bist du?" Der entgegnete: "Dein Knecht kommt aus dem und dem Stamm Israels."	2 And Absalom used to rise early and stand beside the way of the gate; and when any man had a suit to come before the king for judgment, Absalom would call to him, and say, "From what city are you?" And when he said, "Your servant is of such and such a tribe in Israel,"
3 Darauf sagte Absalom zu ihm: "Siehe, deine Angelegenheit ist gut und in Ordnung. Doch beim König gibt es niemand, der auf dich hört."	3 Absalom would say to him, "See, your claims are good and right; but there is no man deputed by the king to hear you."
4 Absalom sprach: "Würde man doch mich zum Richter im Lande bestellen! Jedermann sollte zu mir kommen dürfen, der Streit hat und eine Entscheidung braucht. Ich würde ihm zum Recht verhelfen!"	4 Absalom said moreover, "Oh that I were judge in the land! Then every man with a suit or cause might come to me, and I would give him justice."
5 Trat dann jemand an ihn heran, um ihm zu huldigen, so streckte er seine Hand aus, umarmte und küßte ihn.	5 And whenever a man came near to do obeisance to him, he would put out his hand, and take hold of him, and kiss him.
6 Nach dieser Art und Weise machte es Absalom mit allen Israeliten, die um eines Rechtsentscheides willen zum König gehen wollten. So stahl sich Absalom die Herzen der Israeliten.	6 Thus Absalom did to all of Israel who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
7 Nach Ablauf von vier Jahren sprach Absalom zum König: "Ich will hingehen und in Hebron mein Gelübde erfüllen, das ich dem Herrn gelobt habe!	7 And at the end of four years Absalom said to the king, "Pray let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to the LORD, in Hebron.
8 Dein Knecht tat nämlich, als er zu Geschur in Aram sich aufhielt, das Gelübde: Führt der Herr mich nach Jerusalem heim, dann will ich ihm eine Opferfeier halten."	8 For your servant vowed a vow while I dwelt at Geshur in Aram, saying, 'If the LORD will indeed bring me back to Jerusalem, then I will offer worship to the LORD.'"
9 Der König entgegnete: "Ziehe hin in Frieden!" Da machte er sich auf den Weg nach Hebron.	9 The king said to him, "Go in peace." So he arose, and went to Hebron.
10 Absalom hatte Kundschafter in alle Stämme Israels gesandt und den Auftrag gegeben: "Wenn ihr Posaunengeschmetter hört, so ruft: König ist Absalom in Hebron!"	10 But Absalom sent secret messengers throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then say, 'Absalom is king at Hebron!'"
11 Mit Absalom zogen zweihundert Mann aus Jerusalem, die geladen waren und arglos mitgingen, ohne irgend etwas zu wissen.	11 With Absalom went two hundred men from Jerusalem who were invited guests, and they went in their simplicity, and knew nothing.
12 Absalom ließ auch den Achitophel aus Gilo, den Ratgeber Davids, aus seiner Stadt Gilo kommen, während er die Schlachtopfer darbrachte. Die Verschwörung wuchs, und immer mehr Leute scharten sich um Absalom.	12 And while Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city Giloh. And the conspiracy grew strong, and the people with Absalom kept increasing.
13 Da kam jemand zu David und meldete: "Die Herzen der Israeliten haben sich Absalom zugewandt!"	13 And a messenger came to David, saying, "The hearts of the men of Israel have gone after Absalom."
14 David befahl allen seinen Knechten, die bei ihm in Jerusalem waren: "Auf, laßt uns fliehen; denn es gibt für uns keine Rettung mehr vor Absalom! Brecht eilends auf, denn sonst erreicht er uns schnell, bringt Unheil über uns und schlägt die Stadt mit des Schwertes Schärfe!"	14 Then David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, "Arise, and let us flee; or else there will be no escape for us from Absalom; go in haste, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword."
15 Die Leute des Königs entgegneten ihm: "Ganz, wie der Herr und König es haben will, wir sind deine ergebenen Knechte!"	15 And the king's servants said to the king, "Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king decides."
16 Der König zog also fort und sein ganzer Hofstaat mit ihm. Zehn Nebenfrauen ließ er zurück, das Haus zu bewachen.	16 So the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten concubines to keep the house.
17 So zog der König fort und das ganze Kriegsvolk hinter ihm nach. Sie machten halt beim letzten Haus.	17 And the king went forth, and all the people after him; and they halted at the last house.
18 Alle seine Knechte wie auch alle Kreter und Peleter zogen an ihm vorüber. Auch alle Gatiter, sechshundert Mann, die aus Gat zu ihm gekommen waren, schritten am König vorbei.	18 And all his servants passed by him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the six hundred Gittites who had followed him from Gath, passed on before the king.
19 Der König sprach zu Ittaj aus Gat: "Warum gehst auch du mit uns? Kehre um und bleibe beim König; denn ein Fremdling bist du und lebst in Verbannung fern von deinem Heimatort.	19 Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, "Why do you also go with us? Go back, and stay with the king; for you are a foreigner, and also an exile from your home.
20 Gestern erst kamst du, und heute soll ich dich schon mit uns umherirren lassen? Ich selbst werde bald da und bald dort umherziehen müssen. Kehre also um und führe deine Stammesbrüder mit dir zurück! Der Herr erweise dir Huld und Treue!"	20 You came only yesterday, and shall I today make you wander about with us, seeing I go I know not where? Go back, and take your brethren with you; and may the LORD show steadfast love and faithfulness to you."
21 Ittaj entgegnete dem König: "So wahr der Herr lebt, und so wahr mein Gebieter und König lebt: auf jeden Fall will dein Knecht da sein, wo du, mein Gebieter und König, bist, sei es, daß es zum Tode oder zum Leben führe!"	21 But Ittai answered the king, "As the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king shall be, whether for death or for life, there also will your servant be."
22 Da sprach David zu Ittaj: "So komm und ziehe vorüber!" Da zog Ittaj aus Gat vorüber mit all seinen Männern und seinem ganzen Troß, den er bei sich hatte.	22 And David said to Ittai, "Go then, pass on." So Ittai the Gittite passed on, with all his men and all the little ones who were with him.
23 Die ganze Bevölkerung brach in lautes Weinen aus, als alle Kriegsleute vorüberzogen, der König über das Kidrontal ging und die ganze Mannschaft in der Richtung zur Wüste weiterzog.	23 And all the country wept aloud as all the people passed by, and the king crossed the brook Kidron, and all the people passed on toward the wilderness.
24 Und siehe, auch Zadok war mit allen Leviten zugegen. Sie trugen die Bundeslade Gottes. Man stellte die Lade auf den Boden, und Ebjatar brachte Opfer dar, bis das gesamte Kriegsvolk vollzählig aus der Stadt gezogen war.	24 And Abiathar came up, and lo, Zadok came also, with all the Levites, bearing the ark of the covenant of God; and they set down the ark of God, until the people had all passed out of the city.
25 Der König sprach zu Zadok: "Bring die Gotteslade zur Stadt zurück! Finde ich Huld in den Augen des Herrn, so wird er mich heimführen und sie samt ihrer Ruhestätte mich wieder sehen lassen.	25 Then the king said to Zadok, "Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me back and let me see both it and his habitation;
26 Spricht er aber: "Ich habe an dir kein Wohlgefallen", wohlan, dann tue er mit mir, was ihn gut dünkt!"	26 but if he says, 'I have no pleasure in you,' behold, here I am, let him do to me what seems good to him."
27 Der König fuhr, zum Priester Zadok gewandt, fort: "Sieh du dich vor! Kehre in Frieden in die Stadt zurück! Ebenso dein Sohn Achimaaz und Ebjatars Sohn Jonatan, eure beiden Söhne, die bei euch sind!	27 The king also said to Zadok the priest, "Look, go back to the city in peace, you and Abiathar, with your two sons, Ahima-az your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.
28 Seht, ich werde an den Übergangsstellen der Wüste warten, bis von euch eine Nachricht kommt, die mich in Kenntnis setzt."	28 See, I will wait at the fords of the wilderness, until word comes from you to inform me."
29 Zadok und Ebjatar führten also die Lade Gottes nach Jerusalem zurück und blieben daselbst.	29 So Zadok and Abiathar carried the ark of God back to Jerusalem; and they remained there.
30 David ging den Anstieg zum Ölberg hinauf. Er weinte immerfort. Sein Haupt war verhüllt. Barfuß mußte er dahinschreiten. Auch alle Kriegsleute bei ihm hatten ihr Haupt verdeckt und zogen weinend langsam aufwärts.	30 But David went up the ascent of the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, barefoot and with his head covered; and all the people who were with him covered their heads, and they went up, weeping as they went.
31 Man brachte David die Meldung, daß auch Achitophel unter den Verschwörern bei Absalom sei. Da rief David aus: "Herr, laß doch den Rat Achitophels zur Torheit werden!"	31 And it was told David, "Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom." And David said, "O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness."
32 David war auf dem Berggipfel angekommen, wo man Gott anzubeten pflegte; da trat ihm der Arkiter Chuschaj entgegen. Zerrissen war sein Gewand und sein Haupt mit Staub bedeckt.	32 When David came to the summit, where God was worshiped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent and earth upon his head.
33 David sprach zu ihm: "Ziehst du mit mir, dann bist du für mich nur eine Last.	33 David said to him, "If you go on with me, you will be a burden to me.
34 Kehrst du aber wieder zur Stadt zurück und sprichst zu Absalom: "Dein Knecht will ich sein, o König; früher war ich Knecht deines Vaters, jetzt aber bin ich dein Knecht", dann kannst du mir den Rat Achitophels vereiteln.	34 But if you return to the city, and say to Absalom, 'I will be your servant, O king; as I have been your father's servant in time past, so now I will be your servant,' then you will defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.
35 Daselbst sind ja bei dir auch die Priester Zadok und Ebjatar. Alles, was du aus dem Königshaus erfährst, sollst du ihnen mitteilen.	35 Are not Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? So whatever you hear from the king's house, tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.
36 Sie haben dort auch ihre beiden Söhne bei sich, Zadok den Achimaaz, und Ebjatar den Jonatan. Mit ihrer Hilfe sollt ihr mir alles mitteilen, was ihr erfahrt!"	36 Behold, their two sons are with them there, Ahima-az, Zadok's son, and Jonathan, Abiathar's son; and by them you shall send to me everything you hear."
37 So kam Davids Freund Chuschaj in die Stadt, während Absalom gerade in Jerusalem einzog.	37 So Hushai, David's friend, came into the city, just as Absalom was entering Jerusalem.
