1 Gott sprach zu Jakob: "Auf! Ziehe nach Betel hinauf, bleibe dort und errichte daselbst einen Altar dem Gott, der dir erschien, als du vor deinem Bruder Esau flohst!"	1 God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there; and make there an altar to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau."
2 Jakob sagte zu seiner Familie und all seinen Begleitern: "Entfernt die fremden Götterbilder aus eurer Mitte; reinigt euch und wechselt eure Kleider!	2 So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you, and purify yourselves, and change your garments;
3 Wir wollen uns aufmachen und nach Betel ziehen! Ich will dort Gott, der mich am Tage meiner Bedrängnis erhört hat, einen Altar errichten. Er war mit mir auf dem Wege, den ich gewandert bin."	3 then let us arise and go up to Bethel, that I may make there an altar to the God who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone."
4 Sie übergaben dem Jakob alle fremden Götterbilder, die sie bei sich hatten, und auch die Ringe in ihren Ohren. Jakob verscharrte sie unter der Eiche, die bei Sichem stand.	4 So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods that they had, and the rings that were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was near Shechem.
5 Dann brachen sie auf. Ein Gottesschrecken aber kam über die Städte ringsum. Ihre Bewohner verfolgten die Söhne Jakobs nicht.	5 And as they journeyed, a terror from God fell upon the cities that were round about them, so that they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.
6 Jakob kam nach Lus im Lande Kanaan, das ist Betel, er und alle Leute, die zu ihm gehörten.	6 And Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him,
7 Dort baute er einen Altar. Er nannte die Stätte "Gott von Betel"; denn dort hatte Gott sich ihm geoffenbart als er vor seinem Bruder floh.	7 and there he built an altar, and called the place El-bethel, because there God had revealed himself to him when he fled from his brother.
8 Dort starb Debora, die Amme der Rebekka. Sie wurde unterhalb von Betel unter der Eiche begraben. Er nannte deshalb ihren Namen "Klageeiche".	8 And Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried under an oak below Bethel; so the name of it was called Allon-bacuth.
9 Gott erschien dem Jakob wiederum, als er von Paddan-Aram kam, und er segnete ihn.	9 God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan-aram, and blessed him.
10 Gott sprach zu ihm: "Dein Name ist Jakob. Doch soll fürderhin dein Name nicht mehr Jakob genannt werden, sondern Israel soll dein Name sein!" Und er nannte seinen Namen Israel.	10 And God said to him, "Your name is Jacob; no longer shall your name be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name." So his name was called Israel.
11 Gott sprach zu ihm: "Ich bin der Allmächtige! Sei fruchtbar und zahlreich! Ein Volk, ja eine Schar von Völkern, soll aus dir hervorgehen, und Könige sollen von dir abstammen!	11 And God said to him, "I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall spring from you.
12 Das Land, das ich dem Abraham und Isaak geschenkt habe, will ich dir geben, und zwar deinen Nachkommen werde ich das Land schenken."	12 The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give the land to your descendants after you."
13 Dann fuhr Gott von ihm weg, empor von der Stätte, an der er mit ihm geredet hatte.	13 Then God went up from him in the place where he had spoken with him.
14 Jakob richtete an jenem Ort, da er mit ihm gesprochen, eine Säule auf, ein Denkmal aus Stein. Er brachte darauf ein Trankopfer dar und goß Öl darüber.	14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he had spoken with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.
15 Jakob nannte die Stätte, an der Gott mit ihm gesprochen hatte, "Betel".	15 So Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him, Bethel.
16 Sie brachen von Betel auf, und es war noch ein Stück weit bis Ephrat, da gebar Rachel. Sie hatte eine schwere Geburt.	16 Then they journeyed from Bethel; and when they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel travailed, and she had hard labor.
17 In ihren Geburtsnöten sprach die Hebamme zu ihr: "Sei unverzagt, auch diesmal hast du einen Sohn!"	17 And when she was in her hard labor, the midwife said to her, "Fear not; for now you will have another son."
18 Als dann ihr Lebensodem entfloh - sie starb nämlich -, nannte sie seinen Namen "Benoni" (Sohn meines Unheils). Sein Vater aber nannte ihn "Benjamin" (Sohn des Glückes).	18 And as her soul was departing (for she died), she called his name Ben-oni; but his father called his name Benjamin.
19 Rachel starb und wurde auf dem Wege nach Ephrat, d. h. Bethlehem, begraben.	19 So Rachel died, and she was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem),
20 Jakob errichtete einen Gedenkstein auf ihrem Grabe. Das ist der Gedenkstein auf dem Rachelgrabe bis auf den heutigen Tag.	20 and Jacob set up a pillar upon her grave; it is the pillar of Rachel's tomb, which is there to this day.
21 Israel brach auf und schlug sein Zelt jenseits von Migdal-Eder auf.	21 Israel journeyed on, and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Eder.
22 Während Israel in diesem Lande wohnte, kam Ruben und legte sich zu Bilha, der Nebenfrau seines Vaters. Israel hörte davon...	22 While Israel dwelt in that land Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine; and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.
23 Der Söhne Jakobs aber waren es zwölf. Die Söhne der Lea: Ruben, der Erstgeborene Jakobs, Simeon, Levi, Juda, Issachar und Sebulun.	23 The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob's first-born), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.
24 Die Söhne Rachels: Joseph und Benjamin.	24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
25 Die Söhne Bilhas, der Magd Rachels: Dan und Naphtali.	25 The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's maid: Dan and Naphtali.
26 Die Söhne Silpas, der Magd Leas: Gad und Aser. Das sind die Jakobssöhne, die diesem in Paddan-Aram geboren wurden.	26 The sons of Zilpah, Leah's maid: Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan-aram.
27 Jakob kam zu seinem Vater Isaak nach Mamre, nach Kirjat-Arba, d. h. Hebron, wo Abraham und Isaak als Fremdlinge geweilt hatten.	27 And Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre, or Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had sojourned.
28 Die Lebenszeit Isaaks betrug einhundertachtzig Jahre.	28 Now the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years.
29 Dann verschied Isaak. Er starb und wurde zu seiner Stammessippe versammelt, alt und satt an Lebenstagen. Seine Söhne Esau und Jakob begruben ihn.	29 And Isaac breathed his last; and he died and was gathered to his people, old and full of days; and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
