Romans 13

NEW JERUSALEM	Pattloch Bibel
1 Everyone is to obey the governing authorities, because there is no authority except from God and sowhatever authorities exist have been appointed by God.	1 Jedermann unterwerfe sich den vorgesetzten Obrigkeiten; denn es gibt keine Obrigkeit außer von Gott, und die bestehenden sind von Gott angeordnet.
2 So anyone who disobeys an authority is rebel ing against God's ordinance; and rebels must expect toreceive the condemnation they deserve.	2 Wer sich daher der Obrigkeit widersetzt, der widersetzt sich der Anordnung Gottes, und die sich widersetzen, werden sich selber das Gericht zuziehen.
3 Magistrates bring fear not to those who do good, but to those who do evil. So if you want to live withno fear of authority, live honestly and you wil have its approval;	3 Die Regierenden sind ja nicht der guten Tat Anlaß zur Furcht, sondern der bösen. Willst du aber ohne Furcht sein vor der Obrigkeit, so tue das Gute, und du wirst Anerkennung finden bei ihr.
4 it is there to serve God for you and for your good. But if you do wrong, then you may wel be afraid;because it is not for nothing that the symbol of authority is the sword: it is there to serve God, too, as hisavenger, to bring retribution to wrongdoers.	4 Denn Gottes Dienerin ist sie für dich zum Guten. Tust du aber das Böse, so fürchte dich; denn nicht umsonst trägt sie das Schwert. Sie ist ja Gottes Dienerin, Rechtsvollstreckerin zur Bestrafung dessen, der das Böse tut.
5 You must be obedient, therefore, not only because of this retribution, but also for conscience's sake.	5 Daraus folgt, daß man sich unterordnen muß, nicht nur um der Strafe, sondern auch um des Gewissens willen.
6 And this is why you should pay taxes, too, because the authorities are al serving God as his agents,even while they are busily occupied with that particular task.	6 Aus diesem Grunde zahlt ihr ja auch Steuern; denn Beauftragte Gottes sind sie, und gerade dafür tun sie beharrlich ihren Dienst.
7 Pay to each one what is due to each: taxes to the one to whom tax is due, tol s to the one to whomtol s are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honour to the one to whom honour is due.	7 Gebt allen, was ihr schuldig seid: Steuer, wem Steuer, Zoll, wem Zoll, Furcht, wem Furcht, Ehre, wem Ehre!
8 The only thing you should owe to anyone is love for one another, for to love the other person is tofulfil the law.	8 Bleibt niemand etwas schuldig, außer dem, daß ihr einander liebt; denn wer den Nächsten liebt, hat das Gesetz erfüllt.
9 Al these: You shal not commit adultery, You shal not kil , You shal not steal, You shal not covet,and all the other commandments that there are, are summed up in this single phrase: You must love yourneighbour as yourself.	9 Denn das Gebot: "Du sollst nicht ehebrechen, nicht töten, nicht stehlen, [nicht falsches Zeugnis geben,] nicht begehren" (2Mos 20,13f; 5Mos 5,17), und jedes andere Gebot ist in diesem einen Wort zusammengefaßt: "Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst" (3Mos 19,18).
10 Love can cause no harm to your neighbour, and so love is the fulfilment of the Law.	10 Die Liebe tut dem Nächsten nichts Böses. Des Gesetzes volle Erfüllung ist also die Liebe.
11 Besides, you know the time has come; the moment is here for you to stop sleeping and wake up,because by now our salvation is nearer than when we first began to believe.	11 Und dabei sollt ihr am Stand der Zeit erkennen, daß die Stunde schon da ist für euch, um vom Schlafe aufzustehen; denn näher ist jetzt unser Heil, als da wir zum Glauben kamen.
12 The night is nearly over, daylight is on the way; so let us throw off everything that belongs to thedarkness and equip ourselves for the light.	12 Die Nacht ist vorgerückt, der Tag hat sich genaht. So laßt uns denn ablegen die Werke der Finsternis und anlegen die Waffen des Lichtes!
13 Let us live decently, as in the light of day; with no orgies or drunkenness, no promiscuity orlicentiousness, and no wrangling or jealousy.	13 Wie am Tage laßt uns ehrbar wandeln, nicht in Schmausereien und Trinkgelagen, nicht in Wollust und Ausschweifungen, nicht in Streit und Eifersucht;
14 Let your armour be the Lord Jesus Christ, and stop worrying about how your disordered naturalinclinations may be fulfil ed.	14 zieht vielmehr den Herrn Jesus Christus an, und pflegt das Fleisch nicht so, daß es lüstern wird!
