NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Al eluia! Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, his faithful love is everlasting!	1 Aleluia. Louvai o Senhor porque ele é bom, porque a sua misericórdia é eterna.
2 Who can recount al Yahweh's triumphs, who can ful y voice his praise?	2 Quem contará os poderosos feitos do Senhor? Quem poderá apregoar os seus louvores?
3 How blessed are those who keep to what is just, whose conduct is always upright!	3 Felizes aqueles que observam os preceitos, aqueles que, em todo o tempo, fazem o que é reto.
4 Remember me, Yahweh, in your love for your people. Come near to me with your saving power,	4 Lembrai-vos de mim, Senhor, pela benevolência que tendes com o vosso povo. Assisti-me com o vosso socorro,
5 let me share the happiness of your chosen ones, let me share the joy of your people, the pride ofyour heritage.	5 para que eu prove a felicidade de vossos eleitos, compartilhe do júbilo de vosso povo e me glorie com os que constituem vossa herança.
6 Like our ancestors, we have sinned, we have acted wickedly, guiltily;	6 Como nossos pais, nós também pecamos, cometemos a iniqüidade, praticamos o mal.
7 our ancestors in Egypt never grasped the meaning of your wonders. They did not bear in mind yourcountless acts of love, at the Sea of Reeds they defied the Most High;	7 Nossos pais, no Egito, não prezaram os vossos milagres, esqueceram a multidão de vossos benefícios e se revoltaram contra o Altíssimo no mar Vermelho.
8 but for the sake of his name he saved them, to make known his mighty power.	8 Mas ele os poupou para a honra de seu nome, para tornar patente o seu poder.
9 At his rebuke the Sea of Reeds dried up, he let them pass through the deep as though it were desert,	9 Ameaçou o mar e ele se tornou seco, e os conduziu por entre as ondas como através de um deserto.
10 so he saved them from their opponents' clutches, rescued them from the clutches of their enemies.	10 Livrou-os das mãos daquele que os odiava, e os salvou do poder inimigo.
11 The waters enveloped their enemies, not one of whom was left.	11 As águas recobriram seus adversários, nenhum deles escapou.
12 Then they believed what he had said, and sang his praises.	12 Então acreditaram em sua palavra, e cantaram os seus louvores.
13 But they soon forgot his achievements, they did not even wait for his plans;	13 Depressa, porém, esqueceram suas obras, e não confiaram em seus desígnios.
14 they were overwhelmed with greed in the wastelands, in the solitary wastes they challenged God.	14 Entregaram-se à concupiscência no deserto, e tentaram a Deus na solidão.
15 He gave them al they asked for, but struck them with a deep wasting sickness;	15 Ele lhes concedeu o que pediam, mas os feriu de um mal mortal.
16 in the camp they grew jealous of Moses, and of Aaron, Yahweh's holy one.	16 Em seus acampamentos invejaram Moisés e Aarão, o eleito do Senhor.
17 The earth opened and swal owed up Dathan, closed in on Abiram's faction;	17 Abriu-se a terra e tragou Datã, e sepultou os sequazes de Abiron.
18 fire flamed out against their faction, the renegades were engulfed in flames.	18 Um fogo devassou as suas tropas e as chamas consumiram os ímpios.
19 At Horeb they made a calf, bowed low before cast metal;	19 Fabricaram um bezerro de ouro no sopé do Horeb, e adoraram um ídolo de ouro fundido.
20 they exchanged their glory for the image of a grass-eating bull.	20 Eles trocaram a sua glória pela estátua de um touro que come feno.
21 They forgot the God who was saving them, who had done great deeds in Egypt,	21 Esqueceram a Deus que os salvara, que obrara prodígios no Egito,
22 such wonders in the land of Ham, such awesome deeds at the Sea of Reeds.	22 maravilhas na terra de Cam, estupendos feitos no mar Vermelho.
23 He thought of putting an end to them, had not Moses, his chosen one, taken a stand in the breachand confronted him, to turn his anger away from destroying them.	23 Já cogitava em exterminá-los se Moisés, seu eleito, não intercedesse junto dele para impedir que sua cólera os destruísse.
24 They counted a desirable land for nothing, they put no trust in his promise;	24 Depois, eles desprezaram uma terra de delícias, desconfiados de sua palavra.
25 they stayed in their tents and grumbled, they would not listen to Yahweh's voice.	25 Em suas tendas se puseram a murmurar, e desobedeceram ao Senhor.
26 So he lifted his hand against them, to strike them down in the desert,	26 Então, com a mão alçada, ele jurou que havia de prostrá-los no deserto
27 to strike down their descendants among the nations, to scatter them al over the world.	27 e dispersar sua descendência entre as nações pagãs, disseminando-os por toda a terra.
28 They committed themselves to serve Baal-Peor, and ate sacrifices made to lifeless gods.	28 Aderiram também ao Baal de Fegor, comeram vítimas oferecidas a deuses sem vida.
29 They so provoked him by their actions that a plague broke out among them.	29 E, provocando-o com seus crimes, uma peste irrompeu entre eles.
30 Then up stood Phinehas to intervene, and the plague was checked;	30 Mas levantou-se Finéias para fazer justiça; cessou a peste.
31 for this he is the example of uprightness, from age to age for ever.	31 Seu zelo lhe foi imputado como mérito, de geração em geração, para sempre.
32 At the waters of Meribah they so angered Yahweh, that Moses suffered on their account,	32 Em seguida, irritaram a Deus nas águas de Meribá, e adveio o mal a Moisés por causa deles.
33 for they had embittered his spirit, and he spoke without due thought.	33 Porque o provocaram tanto, palavras temerárias saíram-lhe dos lábios.
34 They did not destroy the nations, as Yahweh had told them to do,	34 Não exterminaram os povos, como o Senhor lhes havia ordenado,
35 but intermarried with them, and adopted their ways.	35 mas se misturaram com as nações pagãs e aprenderam seus costumes.
36 They worshipped those nations' false gods, til they found themselves entrapped,	36 Prestaram culto aos seus ídolos, que se tornaram um laço para eles.
37 and sacrificed their own sons and their daughters to demons.	37 Imolaram os seus filhos e suas filhas aos demônios.
38 Innocent blood they shed, the blood of their sons and daughters; offering them to the idols ofCanaan, they pol uted the country with blood.	38 Derramaram o sangue inocente: o sangue de seus filhos e de suas filhas, que aos ídolos de Canaã sacrificaram; seu país ficou manchado com esse sangue.
39 They defiled themselves by such actions, their behaviour was that of a harlot.	39 Eles se contaminaram com homicídios, e se prostituíram com seus crimes.
40 Yahweh's anger blazed out at his people, his own heritage fil ed him with disgust.	40 Então se inflamou contra seu povo a cólera divina, e Deus teve aversão de sua herança.
41 He handed them over to the nations, and their opponents became their masters;	41 Ele os entregou nas mãos das nações pagãs, e foram dominados pelos que os odiavam.
42 their enemies lorded it over them, crushing them under their rule.	42 Oprimiram-nos os seus inimigos, foram submetidos ao seu jugo.
43 Time and again he rescued them, but they stil defied him deliberately, and sank ever deeper in theirguilt;	43 Muitas vezes ele os libertou; mas sua conduta o exasperou, de tal modo que foram abatidos por causa de suas iniqüidades.
44 even so he took pity on their distress, as soon as he heard them cry out.	44 Entretanto, vendo a sua aflição, ouviu-lhes as orações.
45 Bearing his covenant with them in mind, he relented in his boundless and faithful love;	45 Em favor deles lembrou-se de sua aliança, e por sua misericórdia deles se apiedou.
46 he ensured that they received compassion, in their treatment by al their captors.	46 E fez com que encontrassem a clemência junto aos que os tinham aprisionado.
47 Save us, Yahweh our God, gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holyname, and may glory in praising you.	47 Salvai-nos, Senhor, nosso Deus, e recolhei-nos de entre as nações, para que possamos celebrar o vosso santo nome e ter a satisfação de vos louvar.
48 Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from all eternity and for ever! Let all the people say, 'Amen'.	48 Bendito seja o Senhor, Deus de Israel, pelos séculos dos séculos! E que todo o povo diga: Amém!
