Hosea 12

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Ephraim has surrounded me with lies, the house of Israel, with deceit; Judah is still rebellious against God, against the Holy One, who is faithful.	1 Ephraïm m'entoure de mensonge et la maison d'Israël de tromperie. (Mais Juda est encore auprès deDieu, au Saint il reste fidèle.)
2 Ephraim chases the wind, ever pursuing the gale. His lies and falsehoods are many: he comes to terms with Assyria, and carries oil to Egypt.	2 Ephraïm se repaît de vent, tout le jour il poursuit le vent d'est; il multiplie mensonge et fausseté: onconclut alliance avec Assur, on porte de l'huile à l'Egypte.
3 The LORD has a grievance against Israel: he shall punish Jacob for his conduct, for his deeds he shall repay him.	3 Yahvé est en procès avec Juda, il va sévir contre Jacob selon sa conduite, et lui rendre selon sesactions.
4 In the womb he supplanted his brother, and as a man he contended with God;	4 Dès le sein maternel il supplanta son frère, dans sa vigueur il fut fort contre Dieu.
5 He contended with the angel and triumphed, entreating him with tears. At Bethel he met God and there he spoke with him:	5 Il fut fort contre l'Ange et l'emporta, il pleura et l'implora. A Béthel il le rencontra. C'est là qu'il parlaavec nous.
6 The LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD is his name!	6 Oui, Yahvé, le Dieu Sabaot, Yahvé est son titre.
7 You shall return by the help of your God, if you remain loyal and do right and always hope in your God.	7 Pour toi, grâce à ton Dieu, tu reviendras. Garde l'amour et le droit et espère en ton Dieu toujours.
8 A merchant who holds a false balance, who loves to defraud!	8 Canaan a en main des balances trompeuses, il aime à exploiter.
9 Though Ephraim says, "How rich I have become; I have made a fortune!" All his gain shall not suffice him for the guilt of his sin.	9 Ephraïm a dit: "Oui, je me suis enrichi, je me suis acquis une fortune"; mais de tous ses gains, rien nelui restera, à cause de la faute dont il s'est rendu coupable.
10 I am the LORD, your God, since the land of Egypt; I will again have you live in tents, as in that appointed time.	10 Je suis Yahvé ton Dieu, depuis le pays d'Egypte. Je te ferai encore habiter sous les tentes commeaux jours du Rendez-vous.
11 I granted many visions and spoke to the prophets, through whom I set forth examples.	11 Je parlerai aux prophètes, moi, je multiplierai les visions et par le ministère des prophètes je parleraien paraboles.
12 In Gilead is falsehood, they have come to nought, in Gilgal they sacrifice to bullocks; Their altars are like heaps of stones in the furrows of the field.	12 Si Galaad n'est qu'iniquité, eux ne sont que fausseté; à Gilgal ils sacrifient aux taureaux, c'estpourquoi leurs autels seront comme des monceaux de pierres sur les sillons des champs.
13 When Jacob fled to the land of Aram, he served for a wife; for a wife Israel tended sheep.	13 Jacob s'enfuit aux campagnes d'Aram, Israël servit pour une femme, pour une femme, il garda lestroupeaux.
14 By a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet they were protected.	14 Mais par un prophète, Yahvé fit monter Israël d'Egypte, et par un prophète il fut gardé.
15 Ephraim has exasperated his lord; therefore he shall cast his blood-guilt upon him and repay him for his outrage.	15 Ephraïm l'a offensé amèrement: Yahvé rejettera sur lui le sang versé, son Seigneur lui revaudra sesoutrages.
