1 Höret doch, was der HERR gesprochen hat: »Auf! Erhebe die Anklage angesichts der Berge und laß die Anhöhen deine Stimme vernehmen!«	1 Hear ye what the Lord saith: Arise, contend thou in judgment against the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.
2 Höret, ihr Berge, die Anklage des HERRN und merkt auf, ihr Grundfesten der Erde! Denn einen Rechtsstreit hat der HERR mit seinem Volke, und mit Israel will er sich auseinandersetzen:	2 Let the mountains hear the judgment of the Lord, and the strong foundations of the earth: for the Lord will enter into judgment with his people, and he will plead against Israel.
3 »Mein Volk, was habe ich dir zuleide getan und womit dich gekränkt? Lege Zeugnis gegen mich ab!	3 O my people, what have I done to thee, or in what have I molested thee? answer thou me.
4 Ich habe dich doch aus dem Lande Ägypten hergeführt und dich aus dem Diensthause freigemacht, ich habe Mose, Aaron und Mirjam (als Führer) vor dir hergehen lassen.	4 For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and delivered thee out of the house of slaves: and I sent before thy face Moses, and Aaron, and Mary.
5 Mein Volk, denke doch daran, was Balak, der Moabiterkönig, im Sinn gehabt und was Bileam, der Sohn Beors, ihm geantwortet hat (4.Mose 22,18.38), und an die Ereignisse auf dem Zuge von Sittim bis Gilgal (4.Mose 25,1; Jos 4,19-20), damit du die Gnadenerweise des HERRN erkennst!«	5 dummy verses inserted by amos
6 »Womit soll ich vor den HERRN treten, mich beugen (= demütigen) vor dem Gott der Höhe? Soll ich mit Brandopfertieren vor ihn treten, mit einjährigen Kälbern?	6 O my people, remember, I pray thee, what Balach the king of Moab purposed: and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, from Setim to Galgal, that thou mightest know the justices of the Lord.
7 Hat der HERR Wohlgefallen an Tausenden von Widdern, an Zehntausenden von Bächen Öls? Oder soll ich meinen Erstgeborenen als Schuldopfer für mich hingeben, die Frucht meines Leibes als Sündopfer für mein Leben?«
8 Er hat dir kundgetan, o Mensch, was gut ist; und was fordert der HERR anderes von dir, als Gerechtigkeit zu üben und dich der Liebe zu befleißigen und demütig zu wandeln mit (oder: vor) deinem Gott?	8 What shall I offer to the Lord that is worthy? wherewith shall I kneel before the high God? shall I offer holocausts unto him, and calves of a year old?
9 Horch! Der HERR ruft der Stadt zu – und Weisheit ist es, deinen Namen zu fürchten –; vernehmt (Landvolk und Stadtgemeinde) die Zuchtrute und den, der sie bestellt hat!	9 May the Lord be appeased with thousands of rams, or with many thousands of fat he goats? shall I give my firstborn for my wickedness, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
10 »Ist immer noch unrecht erworbenes Gut im Hause des Gottlosen und das fluchwürdige, schwindsüchtige (d.h. verkleinerte oder: allzu knappe) Getreidemaß?	10 I will shew thee, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requireth of thee: Verily, to do judgment, and to love mercy, and to walk solicitous with thy God.
11 Kann ich Straflosigkeit üben bei (oder: trotz) unrichtiger Waage und bei einem Beutel (oder: trotz des Beutels) mit falschen Gewichtstücken?	11 The voice of the Lord crieth to the city, and salvation shall be to them that fear thy name: hear, O ye tribes, and who shall approve it?
12 Die Reichen in der Stadt sind voll von Gewalttätigkeit, ihre Bewohner reden Lügen, und ihre Zunge ist Trug in ihrem Munde.	12 As yet there is a fire in the house of the wicked, the treasures of iniquity, and a scant measure full of wrath.
13 So will denn auch ich dir unheilbar tiefe Wunden schlagen, dich vernichten um deiner Sünden willen:	13 Shall I justify wicked balances, and the deceitful weights of the bag?
14 du sollst essen, aber nicht satt werden, so daß dein Hunger ungestillt bleibt; schaffst du etwas beiseite, so sollst du es doch nicht retten, und was du gerettet hast, das will ich dem Schwerte preisgeben.	14 By which her rich men were filled with iniquity, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue was deceitful in their mouth.
15 Du wirst säen, aber nicht ernten, wirst Oliven pressen, aber mit Öl dich nicht salben, und Trauben keltern, aber keinen Wein davon trinken.	15 And I therefore began to strike thee with desolation for thy sins.
16 Denn du hast die Lehren Omris (vgl. 1.Kön 16,23-26) befolgt und das ganze Treiben des Hauses Ahabs (vgl. 1.Kön 16,29-33); und ihr seid nach ihren Ratschlägen gewandelt, damit ich dich zum abschreckenden Beispiel mache und deine Bewohnerschaft zum Gespött, und damit ihr den Hohn der Völker tragt!«	16 Thou shalt eat, but shalt not be filled: and thy humiliation shall be in the midst of thee: and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not save: and those whom thou shalt save, I will give up to the sword.
	17 Thou shalt sow, but shalt not reap: thou shalt tread the olives, but shalt not be anointed with the oil: and the new wine, but shalt not drink the wine.
