Proverbi 25

1 Queste parabole ancora sono di Salomone, e furon messe insieme dagli uomini di Ezechia re di Giuda.	1 These also are proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied.
2 E gloria di Dio il velare la sua parola, ed è gloria dei re l'investigare il senso della parola.	2 It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.
3 Il cielo nella sua sublimità, e la terra nella sua profondità, e il cuore dei re, sono cose imperscrutabili.	3 As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the mind of kings is unsearchable.
4 Togli all'argento la ruggine, e se ne farà un vaso purissimo.	4 Take away the dross from the silver, and the smith has material for a vessel;
5 Togli gli empj dal cospetto del re, e il trono di lui si stabilirà sopra la giustizia.	5 take away the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness.
6 Non fare il grande dinanzi al re, e non ti mettere nel posto dei magnati.	6 Do not put yourself forward in the king's presence or stand in the place of the great;
7 Perocché è meglio per te, che ti sia detto: Vieni più in su, che se ti toccasse di essere umiliato dinanzi al principe.	7 for it is better to be told, "Come up here," than to be put lower in the presence of the prince. What your eyes have seen
8 Non correre a furia a manifestare in occasione di contesa quello, che vedesti cogli occhi tuoi, perché dopo aver fatto disonore all'amico, non sarà in tuo potere di rimediare.	8 do not hastily bring into court; for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor puts you to shame?
9 Tratta del tuo negozio col tuo amico, e non rivelare il tuo segreto ad uno straniero;	9 Argue your case with your neighbor himself, and do not disclose another's secret;
10 Affinchè questi quando l'avrà saputo, non ti insulti, e ti faccia sempre de' rimproveri. La grazia, e l'amicizia fanno l'uomo franco: e tu conservale per fuggire i rimproveri.	10 lest he who hears you bring shame upon you, and your ill repute have no end.
11 La parola detta a tempo è come i pomi d'oro a un letto di argento.	11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
12 La riprensione fatta al saggio, è all'orecchio docile, è un orecchino di oro con una perla rilucente.	12 Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold is a wise reprover to a listening ear.
13 L'ambasciadore fedele è per colui, che lo ha mandato, come fredda neve nella stagion della messe: egli tiene in riposo l'animo di lui.	13 Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him, he refreshes the spirit of his masters.
14 Il vantatore, che non mantiene quel, che ha promesso, è una nuvola ventosa, cui non succede la pioggia.	14 Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give.
15 La pazienza raddolcirà il principe, e la lingua molle spezzerà ogni dura cosa	15 With patience a ruler may be persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a bone.
16 Hai trovato il miele? Mangiane tanto, che a te basti, affinchè se te he empissi non l'abbi a vomitare.	16 If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you be sated with it and vomit it.
17 Ritira il piede dalla casa del tuo vicino, affinchè questi non si stufi di te, e ti prenda in avversione.	17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he become weary of you and hate you.
18 L'uomo, che attesta il falso contro il suo prossimo è un dardo, una spada, ed una acuta saetta.	18 A man who bears false witness against his neighbor is like a war club, or a sword, or a sharp arrow.
19 Chi confida in un uomo infedele nel dì della tribolazione, è come chi ha un dente guasto, e stanca la gamba,	19 Trust in a faithless man in time of trouble is like a bad tooth or a foot that slips.
20 E resta senza mantello al tempo freddo. E un mettere aceto sul nitro, il cantare delle canzoni a un cuore molto affitto. Come la tignuola fa male alla veste, e il tarlo al legno: cosi la malinconia al cuore dell'uomo.	20 He who sings songs to a heavy heart is like one who takes off a garment on a cold day, and like vinegar on a wound.
21 Se il tuo nemico ha fame, dagli da mangiare; se ha sete, dagli acqua da bere:	21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
22 Perocché cosi ragunerai sul capo di lui ardenti carboni, e il Signore ti ricompenserà.	22 for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the LORD will reward you.
23 Il vento di settentrione scaccia la pioggia, e una faccia severa (reprime) la lingua del detrattore.	23 The north wind brings forth rain; and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.
24 E meglio il sedere in un angolo del solaio, che in una casa comune con una donna, che garrisce.	24 It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a contentious woman.
25 Una buona nuova, che vien di lontano, è acqua fresca ad uno, che patisce la sete.	25 Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 Il giusto che cade veggente l'empio è una fontana intorbidata co' piedi, e una vena di acque imbrattata.	26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
27 Come il miele fa male a chi troppo ne mangia, così colui che si fa scrutatore della maestà di Dio, rimarrà sotto il peso della sua gloria.	27 It is not good to eat much honey, so be sparing of complimentary words.
28 L'uomo, il quale in parlando non può affrenare il suo spirito, è una città spalancata, e non cinta di muro.	28 A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.
