KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:1 Finally, brothers, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may speed forward and be glorified, as it did among you,
And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.2 and that we may be delivered from perverse and wicked people, for not all have faith.
But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.3 But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.
And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you.4 We are confident of you in the Lord that what we instruct you, you (both) are doing and will continue to do.
And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.5 May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the endurance of Christ.
Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.6 We instruct you, brothers, in the name of (our) Lord Jesus Christ,to shun any brother who conducts himself in a disorderly way and not according to the tradition they received from us.
For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;7 For you know how one must imitate us. For we did not act in a disorderly way among you,
Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:8 nor did we eat food received free from anyone. On the contrary, in toil and drudgery, night and day we worked, so as not to burden any of you.
Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.9 Not that we do not have the right. Rather, we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you, so that you might imitate us.
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.10 In fact, when we were with you, we instructed you that if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.
For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.11 We hear that some are conducting themselves among you in a disorderly way, by not keeping busy but minding the business ofothers.
Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.12 Such people we instruct and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and to eat their own food.
But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.13 But you, brothers, do not be remiss in doing good.
And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.14 If anyone does not obey our word as expressed in this letter, take note of this person not to associate with him, that he may be put to shame.
Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.15 Do not regard him as an enemy but admonish him as a brother.
Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.16 May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write.17 This greeting is in my own hand, Paul's. This is the sign in every letter; this is how I write.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you.
