Livre de Jérémie 10

1 Ecoutez la parole que Yahvé vous adresse, maison d'Israël!	1 Listen to the word that the Lord has spoken concerning you, O house of Israel.
2 Ainsi parle Yahvé: N'apprenez pas la voie des nations, ne soyez pas terrifiés par les signes du ciel,même si les nations en éprouvent de la terreur.	2 Thus says the Lord: “Do not choose to learn according to the ways of the Gentiles. And do not be willing to dread the signs of heaven, which the Gentiles fear.
3 Oui, les coutumes des peuples ne sont que vanité; ce n'est que du bois coupé dans une forêt,travaillé par le sculpteur, ciseau en main,	3 For the laws of the people are empty. For the work of the hand of the craftsman has cut a tree from the forest with an axe.
4 puis enjolivé d'argent et d'or. Avec des clous, à coups de marteau, on le fixe, pour qu'il ne bougepas.	4 He has adorned it with silver and gold. He has put it together with nail and hammer, so that it will not fall apart.
5 Comme un épouvantail dans un champ de concombres, ils ne parlent pas; il faut les porter, car ilsne marchent pas! N'en ayez pas peur: ils ne peuvent faire de mal, et de bien, pas davantage.	5 They have been fabricated in the likeness of a palm tree, and they will not speak. They must be carried to be moved, because they do not have the ability to walk. Therefore, do not be willing to fear them, for they can do neither evil nor good.”
6 Nul n'est comme toi, Yahvé, tu es grand, ton Nom est grand dans sa puissance.	6 O Lord, there is nothing similar to you. You are great, and your name is great in strength.
7 Qui ne te craindrait, roi des nations? C'est bien cela qui te convient! Car parmi tous les sages desnations et dans tous leurs royaumes, nul n'est comme toi.	7 Who will not fear you, O King of the nations? For honor is yours. Among all the wise of the nations, and within all their kingdoms, there is nothing similar to you.
8 Tous tant qu'ils sont, ils sont bêtes, stupides: l'instruction que donnent les Vanités, c'est du bois!	8 Together, they will all be proven to be unwise and foolish. The doctrine of their vanity is made of wood.
9 c'est de l'argent en feuilles, importé de Tarsis, c'est de l'or d'Ophir, une oeuvre de sculpteur oud'orfèvre; on les revêt de pourpre violette et écarlate, ce sont tous oeuvre d'artisan.	9 Rolled silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz. It is the work of a craftsman, and of the hand of a coppersmith. Hyacinth and purple is their clothing. All these things are the work of artists.
10 Mais Yahvé est le Dieu véritable, il est le Dieu vivant et le Roi éternel. Quand il s'irrite, la terretremble, les nations ne peuvent soutenir sa colère.	10 But the Lord is the true God. He is the living God and the everlasting King. Before his indignation, the earth will shake. And the Gentiles will not be able to withstand his threats.
11 (Voici ce que vous direz d'eux: "Les dieux qui n'ont pas fait le ciel et la terre seront exterminés dela terre et de dessous le ciel.)"	11 “And so, you shall speak to them in this way: The gods that have not made heaven and earth, let them perish from the earth and from among those places which are under heaven.
12 Il a fait la terre par sa puissance, établi le monde par sa sagesse et par son intelligence étendu lescieux.	12 He made the earth by his power, he prepared the world in his wisdom, and he stretched out the heavens with his understanding.
13 Quand il donne de la voix, c'est un mugissement d'eaux dans le ciel; il fait monter les nuages dubout de la terre, il produit les éclairs pour l'averse et tire le vent de ses réservoirs.	13 At his voice, he grants a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he lifts up the clouds from the ends of the earth. He causes the lightning with the rain, and he leads forth the wind from his storehouses.
14 Alors tout homme se tient stupide, sans comprendre, chaque orfèvre rougit de ses idoles; ce qu'ila coulé n'est que mensonge, en elles, pas de souffle!	14 Every man has become a fool concerning knowledge; every artist has been confounded by his graven image. For what he has formed is false, and there is no spirit in these things.
15 Elles sont vanité, oeuvre ridicule; au temps de leur châtiment, elles disparaîtront.	15 These things are empty, and they are a work deserving of ridicule. In the time of their visitation, they will perish.
16 La Part de Jacob n'est pas comme elles, car il a façonné l'univers et Israël est la tribu de sonhéritage. Son nom est Yahvé Sabaot.	16 Jacob’s portion is not like their portion. For his portion is from the One who formed all things. And Israel is the staff of his inheritance. The Lord of hosts is his name.
17 Ramasse à terre ton bagage, toi l'assiégée!	17 Gather your shame from the earth, you who are living under siege.”
18 Car ainsi parle Yahvé: Voici, je vais lancer au loin les habitants du pays, cette fois-ci, et lesmettre dans l'angoisse pour qu'ils me trouvent. -	18 For thus says the Lord: “Behold, in this turn, I will cast the inhabitants of the land far away. And I will afflict them no matter where they may be found.”
19 "Malheur à moi! Quelle blessure! ma plaie est inguérissable. Et moi qui disais: ce n'est que celama souffrance? Je la supporterai!	19 Woe to me, concerning my destruction! My wound is very grievous. And yet I said: Clearly, this infirmity is mine, and I will carry it.
20 Or ma tente est détruite, toutes mes cordes sont coupées. Mes fils m'ont quitté: ils ne sont plus;plus personne pour remonter ma tente, pour tendre mes toiles" -	20 My tent has been destroyed. All my cords have been broken. My sons have gone away from me; they did not remain. There is no one to stretch out my tent any more, nor to set up my curtains.
21 C'est que les pasteurs furent stupides: ils n'ont pas cherché Yahvé. Aussi n'ont-ils point réussi ettout le troupeau a été dispersé.	21 For the pastors have acted foolishly, and they have not sought the Lord. Because of this, they have not understood, and all their flock has been dispersed.
22 Un bruit se fait entendre! Le voici! Un grand vacarme vient du pays du Nord pour réduire lesvilles de Juda en solitude, en repaire de chacals.	22 Behold, the sound of a voice approaches, a great commotion from the land of the north: so that he may make the cities of Judah into a wilderness and into a dwelling place for serpents.
23 Je le sais, Yahvé, la voie des humains n'est pas en leur pouvoir, et il n'est pas donné à l'hommequi marche de diriger ses pas!	23 I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not his own. Neither is it given to man to walk and to direct his own steps.
24 Corrige-moi, Yahvé, mais dans une juste mesure, sans t'irriter, pour ne pas trop me réduire.	24 Correct me, O Lord, yet truly, do so with judgment, and not in your fury. Otherwise, you will reduce me to nothing.
25 Déverse ta fureur sur les nations qui ne te connaissent pas, et sur les familles qui n'invoquent paston nom. Car elles ont dévoré Jacob, elles l'ont dévoré et achevé, elles ont dévasté son domaine.	25 Pour out your indignation upon the nations that have not known you, and upon the provinces that have not invoked your name. For they have fed upon Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and they have utterly destroyed his honor.
