Livre de Jérémie 10

JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Ecoutez la parole que Yahvé vous adresse, maison d'Israël!	1 Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel.
2 Ainsi parle Yahvé: N'apprenez pas la voie des nations, ne soyez pas terrifiés par les signes du ciel,même si les nations en éprouvent de la terreur.	2 Thus says the LORD: Learn not the customs of the nations, and have no fear of the signs of the heavens, though the nations fear them.
3 Oui, les coutumes des peuples ne sont que vanité; ce n'est que du bois coupé dans une forêt,travaillé par le sculpteur, ciseau en main,	3 For the cult idols of the nations are nothing, wood cut from the forest, Wrought by craftsmen with the adze,
4 puis enjolivé d'argent et d'or. Avec des clous, à coups de marteau, on le fixe, pour qu'il ne bougepas.	4 adorned with silver and gold. With nails and hammers they are fastened, that they may not totter.
5 Comme un épouvantail dans un champ de concombres, ils ne parlent pas; il faut les porter, car ilsne marchent pas! N'en ayez pas peur: ils ne peuvent faire de mal, et de bien, pas davantage.	5 Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field are they, they cannot speak; They must be carried about, for they cannot walk. Fear them not, they can do no harm, neither is it in their power to do good.
6 Nul n'est comme toi, Yahvé, tu es grand, ton Nom est grand dans sa puissance.	6 No one is like you, O LORD, great are you, great and mighty is your name.
7 Qui ne te craindrait, roi des nations? C'est bien cela qui te convient! Car parmi tous les sages desnations et dans tous leurs royaumes, nul n'est comme toi.	7 Who would not fear you, King of the nations, for it is your due! Among all the wisest of the nations, and in all their domain, there is none like you.
8 Tous tant qu'ils sont, ils sont bêtes, stupides: l'instruction que donnent les Vanités, c'est du bois!	8 One and all they are dumb and senseless, these idols they teach about are wooden:
9 c'est de l'argent en feuilles, importé de Tarsis, c'est de l'or d'Ophir, une oeuvre de sculpteur oud'orfèvre; on les revêt de pourpre violette et écarlate, ce sont tous oeuvre d'artisan.	9 Silver strips brought from Tarshish, and gold from Ophir, The work of the craftsman and the handiwork of the smelter, Clothed with violet and purple- all of them the work of artisans.
10 Mais Yahvé est le Dieu véritable, il est le Dieu vivant et le Roi éternel. Quand il s'irrite, la terretremble, les nations ne peuvent soutenir sa colère.	10 The LORD is true God, he is the living God, the eternal King, Before whose anger the earth quakes, whose wrath the nations cannot endure:
11 (Voici ce que vous direz d'eux: "Les dieux qui n'ont pas fait le ciel et la terre seront exterminés dela terre et de dessous le ciel.)"	11 Thus shall you say of them: Let the gods that did not make heaven and earth perish from the earth, and from beneath these heavens!
12 Il a fait la terre par sa puissance, établi le monde par sa sagesse et par son intelligence étendu lescieux.	12 He who made the earth by his power, established the world by his wisdom, and stretched out the heavens by his skill.
13 Quand il donne de la voix, c'est un mugissement d'eaux dans le ciel; il fait monter les nuages dubout de la terre, il produit les éclairs pour l'averse et tire le vent de ses réservoirs.	13 When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar, and he brings up clouds from the end of the earth; He makes the lightning flash in the rain, and releases stormwinds from their chambers.
14 Alors tout homme se tient stupide, sans comprendre, chaque orfèvre rougit de ses idoles; ce qu'ila coulé n'est que mensonge, en elles, pas de souffle!	14 Every man is stupid, ignorant; every artisan is put to shame by his idol: He has molded a fraud, without breath of life.
15 Elles sont vanité, oeuvre ridicule; au temps de leur châtiment, elles disparaîtront.	15 Nothingness are they, a ridiculous work; they will perish in their time of punishment.
16 La Part de Jacob n'est pas comme elles, car il a façonné l'univers et Israël est la tribu de sonhéritage. Son nom est Yahvé Sabaot.	16 Not like these is the portion of Jacob: he is the creator of all things; Israel is his very own tribe, LORD of hosts is his name.
17 Ramasse à terre ton bagage, toi l'assiégée!	17 Lift your bundle and leave the land, O city living in a state of siege!
18 Car ainsi parle Yahvé: Voici, je vais lancer au loin les habitants du pays, cette fois-ci, et lesmettre dans l'angoisse pour qu'ils me trouvent. -	18 For thus says the LORD: Behold, this time I will sling away the inhabitants of the land; I will hem them in, that they may be taken.
19 "Malheur à moi! Quelle blessure! ma plaie est inguérissable. Et moi qui disais: ce n'est que celama souffrance? Je la supporterai!	19 Woe is me! I am undone, my wound is incurable; Yet I had thought: if I make light of my wound, I can bear it.
20 Or ma tente est détruite, toutes mes cordes sont coupées. Mes fils m'ont quitté: ils ne sont plus;plus personne pour remonter ma tente, pour tendre mes toiles" -	20 My tent is ruined, all its cords are severed. My sons have left me, they are no more: no one to pitch my tent, no one to raise its curtains.
21 C'est que les pasteurs furent stupides: ils n'ont pas cherché Yahvé. Aussi n'ont-ils point réussi ettout le troupeau a été dispersé.	21 Yes, the shepherds were stupid as cattle, the LORD they sought not; Therefore they had no success, and all their flocks were scattered.
22 Un bruit se fait entendre! Le voici! Un grand vacarme vient du pays du Nord pour réduire lesvilles de Juda en solitude, en repaire de chacals.	22 Listen! a noise! it comes closer, a great uproar from the northern land: To turn the cities of Judah into a desert haunt of jackals.
23 Je le sais, Yahvé, la voie des humains n'est pas en leur pouvoir, et il n'est pas donné à l'hommequi marche de diriger ses pas!	23 You know, O LORD, that man is not master of his way; Man's course is not within his choice, nor is it for him to direct his step.
24 Corrige-moi, Yahvé, mais dans une juste mesure, sans t'irriter, pour ne pas trop me réduire.	24 Punish us, O LORD, but with equity, not in anger, lest you have us dwindle away.
25 Déverse ta fureur sur les nations qui ne te connaissent pas, et sur les familles qui n'invoquent paston nom. Car elles ont dévoré Jacob, elles l'ont dévoré et achevé, elles ont dévasté son domaine.	25 Pour out your wrath on the nations that know you not, on the tribes that call not upon your name; For they have devoured Jacob utterly, and laid waste his dwelling.
