GREEK BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
Υπενθυμιζε αυτους να υποτασσωνται εις τας αρχας και εξουσιας, να πειθαρχωσι, να ηναι ετοιμοι εις παν εργον αγαθον,1 Remind them to be obedient to the officials in authority; to be ready to do good at every opportunity;
να μη βλασφημωσι μηδενα, να ηναι αμαχοι, συμβιβαστικοι, να δεικνυωσι προς παντας ανθρωπους πασαν πραοτητα.2 not to go slandering other people but to be peaceable and gentle, and always polite to people of al kinds.
Διοτι ημεθα ποτε και ημεις ανοητοι, απειθεις, πλανωμενοι, δουλευοντες εις διαφορους επιθυμιας και ηδονας, ζωντες εν κακια και φθονω, μισητοι και μισουντες αλληλους.3 There was a time when we too were ignorant, disobedient and misled and enslaved by different passionsand dissipations; we lived then in wickedness and malice, hating each other and hateful ourselves.
Αλλ' οτε εφανερωθη η χρηστοτης και η φιλανθρωπια του Σωτηρος ημων Θεου,4 But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour for humanity were revealed,
ουχι εξ εργων δικαιοσυνης τα οποια επραξαμεν ημεις, αλλα κατα το ελεος αυτου εσωσεν ημας δια λουτρου παλιγγενεσιας και ανακαινισεως του Αγιου Πνευματος,5 it was not because of any upright actions we had done ourselves; it was for no reason except his ownfaithful love that he saved us, by means of the cleansing water of rebirth and renewal in the Holy Spirit
το οποιον εξεχεε πλουσιως εφ' ημας δια Ιησου Χριστου του Σωτηρος ημων,6 which he has so generously poured over us through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
ινα δικαιωθεντες δια της χαριτος εκεινου, γεινωμεν κληρονομοι κατα την ελπιδα της αιωνιου ζωης.7 so that, justified by his grace, we should become heirs in hope of eternal life.
Πιστος ο λογος, και θελω ταυτα να διαβεβαιοις, δια να φροντιζωσιν οι πιστευσαντες εις τον Θεον να προιστανται καλων εργων. Ταυτα ειναι τα καλα και ωφελιμα εις τους ανθρωπους?8 This is doctrine that you can rely on. I want you to be quite uncompromising in teaching all this, so thatthose who now believe in God may keep their minds constantly occupied in doing good works. Al this is good,and useful for everybody.
μωρας δε φιλονεικιας και γενεαλογιας και εριδας και μαχας νομικας φευγε, διοτι ειναι ανωφελεις και ματαιαι.9 But avoid foolish speculations, and those genealogies, and the quibbles and disputes about the Law --they are useless and futile.
Αιρετικον ανθρωπον μετα μιαν και δευτεραν νουθεσιαν παραιτου,10 If someone disputes what you teach, then after a first and a second warning, have no more to do withhim:
εξευρων οτι διεφθαρη ο τοιουτος και αμαρτανει, ων αυτοκατακριτος.11 you wil know that anyone of that sort is warped and is self-condemned as a sinner.
Οταν πεμψω προς σε τον Αρτεμαν η τον Τυχικον, σπουδασον να ελθης προς με εις Νικοπολιν? διοτι εκει απεφασισα να παραχειμασω.12 As soon as I have sent Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to join me at Nicopolis, where I havedecided to spend the winter.
Ζηναν τον νομικον και τον Απολλω προπεμψον επιμελως, δια να μη λειπη εις αυτους μηδεν.13 Help eagerly on their way Zenas the lawyer and Apollos, and make sure they have everything theyneed.
Ας μανθανωσι δε και οι ημετεροι να προιστανται καλων εργων εις τας αναγκαιας χρειας, δια να μη ηναι ακαρποι.14 Al our people must also learn to occupy themselves in doing good works for their practical needs, andnot to be unproductive.
Ασπαζονται σε παντες οι μετ' εμου? ασπασθητι τους αγαπωντας ημας εν πιστει. Η χαρις ειη μετα παντων υμων. Αμην.15 Al those who are with me send their greetings. Greetings to those who love us in the faith. Grace bewith you all.
