1 Behold what manner of charity the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called, and should be the sons of God. Therefore the world knoweth not us, because it knew not him.	1 Seht, wie groß die Liebe ist, die der Vater uns geschenkt hat: Wir heißen Kinder Gottes und wir sind es. Die Welt erkennt uns nicht, weil sie ihn nicht erkannt hat.
2 Dearly beloved, we are now the sons of God; and it hath not yet appeared what we shall be. We know, that, when he shall appear, we shall be like to him: because we shall see him as he is.	2 Liebe Brüder, jetzt sind wir Kinder Gottes. Aber was wir sein werden, ist noch nicht offenbar geworden. Wir wissen, dass wir ihm ähnlich sein werden, wenn er offenbar wird; denn wir werden ihn sehen, wie er ist.
3 And every one that hath this hope in him, sanctifieth himself, as he also is holy.	3 Jeder, der dies von ihm erhofft, heiligt sich, so wie Er heilig ist.
4 Whosoever committeth sin commmitteth also iniquity; and sin is iniquity.	4 Jeder, der die Sünde tut, handelt gesetzwidrig; denn Sünde ist Gesetzwidrigkeit.
5 And you know that he appeared to take away our sins, and in him there is no sin.	5 Ihr wisst, dass er erschienen ist, um die Sünde wegzunehmen, und er selbst ist ohne Sünde.
6 Whosoever abideth in him, sinneth not; and whosoever sinneth, hath not seen him, nor known him.	6 Jeder, der in ihm bleibt, sündigt nicht. Jeder, der sündigt, hat ihn nicht gesehen und ihn nicht erkannt.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you. He that doth justice is just, even as he is just.	7 Meine Kinder, lasst euch von niemand in die Irre führen! Wer die Gerechtigkeit tut, ist gerecht, wie Er gerecht ist.
8 He that commmitteth sin is of the devil: for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God appeared, that he might destroy the works of the devil.	8 Wer die Sünde tut, stammt vom Teufel; denn der Teufel sündigt von Anfang an. Der Sohn Gottes aber ist erschienen, um die Werke des Teufels zu zerstören.
9 Whosoever is born of God, commmitteth not sin: for his seed abideth in him, and he can not sin, because he is born of God.	9 Jeder, der von Gott stammt, tut keine Sünde, weil Gottes Same in ihm bleibt. Er kann nicht sündigen, weil er von Gott stammt.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil. Whosoever is not just, is not of God, nor he that loveth not his brother.	10 Daran kann man die Kinder Gottes und die Kinder des Teufels erkennen: Jeder, der die Gerechtigkeit nicht tut und seinen Bruder nicht liebt, ist nicht aus Gott.
11 For this is the declaration, which you have heard from the beginning, that you should love one another.	11 Denn das ist die Botschaft, die ihr von Anfang an gehört habt: Wir sollen einander lieben
12 Not as Cain, who was of the wicked one, and killed his brother. And wherefore did he kill him? Because his own works were wicked: and his brother's just.	12 und nicht wie Kain handeln, der von dem Bösen stammte und seinen Bruder erschlug. Warum hat er ihn erschlagen? Weil seine Taten böse, die Taten seines Bruders aber gerecht waren.
13 Wonder not, brethren, if the world hate you.	13 Wundert euch nicht, meine Brüder, wenn die Welt euch hasst.
14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not, abideth in death.	14 Wir wissen, dass wir aus dem Tod in das Leben hinübergegangen sind, weil wir die Brüder lieben. Wer nicht liebt, bleibt im Tod.
15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer. And you know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in himself.	15 Jeder, der seinen Bruder hasst, ist ein Mörder und ihr wisst: Kein Mörder hat ewiges Leben, das in ihm bleibt.
16 In this we have known the charity of God, because he hath laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.	16 Daran haben wir die Liebe erkannt, dass Er sein Leben für uns hingegeben hat. So müssen auch wir für die Brüder das Leben hingeben.
17 He that hath the substance of this world, and shall see his brother in need, and shall shut up his bowels from him: how doth the charity of God abide in him?	17 Wenn jemand Vermögen hat und sein Herz vor dem Bruder verschließt, den er in Not sieht, wie kann die Gottesliebe in ihm bleiben?
18 My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue, but in deed, and in truth.	18 Meine Kinder, wir wollen nicht mit Wort und Zunge lieben, sondern in Tat und Wahrheit.
19 In this we know that we are of the truth: and in his sight shall persuade our hearts.	19 Daran werden wir erkennen, dass wir aus der Wahrheit sind, und werden unser Herz in seiner Gegenwart beruhigen.
20 For if our heart reprehend us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.	20 Denn wenn das Herz uns auch verurteilt - Gott ist größer als unser Herz und er weiß alles.
21 Dearly beloved, if our heart do not reprehend us, we have confidence towards God:	21 Liebe Brüder, wenn das Herz uns aber nicht verurteilt, haben wir gegenüber Gott Zuversicht;
22 And whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him: because we keep his commandments, and do those things which are pleasing in his sight.	22 alles, was wir erbitten, empfangen wir von ihm, weil wir seine Gebote halten und tun, was ihm gefällt.
23 And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ: and love one another, as he hath given commandment unto us.	23 Und das ist sein Gebot: Wir sollen an den Namen seines Sohnes Jesus Christus glauben und einander lieben, wie es seinem Gebot entspricht.
24 And he that keepeth his commandments, abideth in him, and he in him. And in this we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.	24 Wer seine Gebote hält, bleibt in Gott und Gott in ihm. Und dass er in uns bleibt, erkennen wir an dem Geist, den er uns gegeben hat.
