1 The hopes of a man that is void of understanding are vain and deceitful: and dreams lift up fools.	1 Les espérances vaines et mensongères sont pour les imbéciles: les songes donnent des ailes aux insensés.
2 The man that giveth heed to lying visions, is like to him that catcheth at a shadow, and followeth after the wind.	2 Compter sur des songes, c’est comme poursuivre une ombre ou courir après le vent.
3 The vision of dreams is the resemblance of one thing to another: as when a man's likeness is before the face of a man.	3 Ce qu’on voit en rêve n’est qu’un reflet: la personne voit sa propre image.
4 What can be made clean by the unclean? and what truth can come from that which is false?	4 Peut-on se purifier avec une chose impure? Et trouvera-t-on la vérité dans ce qui est mensonge?
5 Deceitful divinations and lying omens and the dreams of evildoers, are vanity:	5 Prédictions, voyance et songes sont aussi vides que les fantasmes d’une femme enceinte.
6 And the heart fancieth as that of a woman in travail: except it be a vision sent forth from the most High, set no thy heart upon them.	6 À moins qu’ils ne te soient envoyés comme une visite du Très-Haut, ne leur donne pas ton attention.
7 For dreams have deceived many, and they have failed that put their trust in them.	7 Les songes ont égaré bien des gens; ceux qui comptaient dessus sont tombés à côté.
8 The word of the law shall be fulfilled without a lie, and wisdom shall be made plain in the mouth of the faithful.	8 La Loi par contre s’accomplira sans faute: elle est sage en ce qu’elle dit, fidèle en ce qu’elle promet.
9 What doth he know, that hath not been tried? A man that hath much experience, shall think of many things: and he that hath learned many things, shall shew forth understanding.	9 Celui qui a voyagé connaît bien des choses, un homme d’expérience parle en connaissance de cause.
10 He that hath no experience, knoweth little: and he that hath been experienced in many things, multiplieth prudence.	10 Celui qui n’a pas été mis à l’épreuve sait peu, celui qui a roulé sa bosse a acquis bien des savoir-faire.
11 He that hath not been tried, what manner of things doth he know? he that hath been surprised, shall abound with subtlety.	11 J’ai vu beaucoup de choses au cours de mes voyages, et j’en sais plus que je ne saurais dire.
12 I have seen many things by travelling, and many customs of things.	12 J’ai souvent été en danger de mort, et je m’en suis tiré grâce à mon expérience.
13 Sometimes I have been in danger of death for these things, and I have been delivered by the grace of God.	13 Ceux qui craignent le Seigneur auront la vie sauve, car ils ont mis leur espérance en celui qui peut les sauver.
14 The spirit of those that fear God; is sought after, and by his regard shall be blessed.	14 Celui qui craint le Seigneur sera sans crainte, il ne s’effraiera de rien car Lui est son espérance.
15 For their hope is on him that saveth them, and the eyes of God are upon them that love him.	15 Celui qui craint le Seigneur sait son bonheur: sur qui donc s’est-il appuyé, qui donc est sa force?
16 He that feareth the Lord shall tremble at nothing, and shall not be afraid for he is his hope.	16 Le regard du Seigneur couvre ceux qui l’aiment, il est une puissante protection, un soutien qui résiste, un abri contre le vent brûlant et le soleil de midi, une sécurité contre les chutes, une aide au moment de tomber.
17 The soul of him that feareth the Lord is blessed.	17 Le Seigneur redonne le courage et illumine les yeux, il donne guérison, vie et bénédiction.
18 To whom doth he look, and who in his strength?	18 Donner à Dieu un bien mal acquis, c’est une offrande souillée; les dons des méchants ne sauraient plaire à Dieu.
19 The eyes of the Lord are upon them that fear him, he is their powerful protector, and strong stay, a defence from the heat, and a cover from the sun at noon,	19 Le Très-Haut ne prend pas plaisir aux offrandes des impies; ce n’est pas à force de sacrifices que leurs péchés seront pardonnés.
20 A preservation from stumbling, and a help from falling; he raiseth up the soul, and enlighteneth the eyes, and giveth health, and life, and blessing.	20 Offrir un sacrifice pris sur les biens des indigents, c’est mettre à mort un fils en l’honneur de son père.
21 The offering of him that sacrificeth of a thing wrongfully gotten, is stained, and the mockeries of the unjust are not acceptable.	21 Le pain qu’ils ont mendié est la vie des pauvres; celui qui les en prive est un assassin.
22 The Lord is only for them that wait upon him in the way of truth and justice.	22 Il tue son prochain, celui qui lui enlève ses moyens de vivre; retenir le salaire du salarié, c’est tout comme verser le sang.
23 The most High approveth not the gifts of the wicked: neither hath he respect to the oblations of the unjust, nor will he be pacified for sine by the multitude of their sacrifices.	23 L’un construit, l’autre abat; qu’ont-ils gagné de plus que leur peine?
24 He that offereth sacrifice of the goods of the poor, is as one that sacrificeth the son in the presence of his father.	24 L’un prie, l’autre maudit; duquel le Maître écoutera-t-il la voix?
25 The bread of the needy, is the life of the poor: he that defraudeth them thereof, is a man of blood.	25 Si l’on se baigne après avoir touché un mort, et qu’on le touche à nouveau, à quoi rimait la purification?
26 He that taketh away the bread gotten by sweat, is like him that killeth his neighbour.	26 C’est le cas de celui qui jeûne pour ses péchés puis s’en va les recommencer: qui écoutera sa prière? À quoi lui a servi sa pénitence?
27 He that sheddeth blood, and he that defraudeth the labourer of his hire, are brothers.
28 When one buildeth up, and another pulleth down: what profit have they but the labour?
29 When one prayeth, and another curseth: whose voice will God hear?
30 He that washeth himself after touching the dead, if he toucheth him again, what doth his washing avail?
31 So a man that fasteth for his sins, and doth the same again, what doth his humbling himself profit him? who will hear his prayer?
