1 Hast thou heard a word against thy neighbour? let it die within thee, trusting that it will not burst thee.	1 Chi sgobba ma s'ubriaca non arricchisce, e chi disprezza le piccole perdite presto va in rovina.
2 dummy verses inserted by amos	2 Il vino e le donne fanno perdere il senno, ma è più pericoloso bazzicare le prostitute.
3 dummy verses inserted by amos	3 Putredine e vermi saranno la sua sorte, l'uomo senza scrupoli sarà spiantato.
4 dummy verses inserted by amos	4 Chi si fida troppo presto è di cuore leggero, e chi fa il peccato sbaglia a suo danno.

6 dummy verses inserted by amos	6 e chi odia le chiacchiere evita tanti guai.
7 dummy verses inserted by amos	7 Non ripetere la parola udita, così non avrai mai danno.
8 dummy verses inserted by amos	8 Non propagare le cose dell'amico o del nemico, parla solo se il silenzio diventa complicità.
9 dummy verses inserted by amos	9 Venutolo a sapere, l'altro starà guardingo con te, e quando avrà l'occasione te la farà pagare.
10 dummy verses inserted by amos	10 Se hai sentito una parola, essa muoia con te; sta' tranquillo che non ti scoppierà dentro.
11 At the hearing of a word the fool is in travail, as a woman groaning. in the bringing forth a child.	11 Di fronte a un segreto lo stolto ha le doglie, come una donna al momento del parto.
12 As an arrow that sticketh in a man's thigh: so is a word in the heart of a fool.	12 Come freccia conficcata nella carne è il segreto nel petto dello stolto.
13 Reprove a friend, lest he may not have understood, and say : f did it not: or if he did it, that he may do it no more.	13 Con l'amico, verifica la dicerìa sul suo conto, se fosse vera, non continuerà a sbagliare.
14 Reprove thy neighbour, for it may be he hath not said it: and if he hath said it, that he may not say it again.	14 Tratta con l'interessato quanto gli si attribuisce, così, se l'ha detto, non lo ripeterà.
15 Admonish thy friend: for there is often a fault committed.	15 Appura con l'amico quello che spesso è una calunnia, e non credere a tutto quello che senti.
16 And believe not every word. There is one, that slippeth with the tongue, but not from his heart.	16 Si può scivolare, ma senza volerlo, e chi non ha sbagliato con la lingua?
17 For who is there that hath not offended with his tongue? Admonish thy neighbour before thou threaten him.	17 Richiama il tuo vicino, prima di minacciarlo, così osserverai la legge dell'Altissimo.
18 And give place to the fear of the most High: for the fear of God is all wisdom, and therein is to fear God, and the disposition of the law is in all wisdom.	18 Tutta la sapienza è timore del Signore, e in ogni sapienza c'è la pratica della legge.
19 But the learning of wickedness is not wisdom: and the device of sinners is not prudence.	19 La conoscenza del male non è sapienza, e non c'è senno nel consiglio dei peccatori.
20 There is a subtle wickedness, and the same is detestable: and there is a man that is foolish, wanting in wisdom.	20 C'è un'astuzia che è abominevole e chi manca di sapienza è un dissennato.
21 Better is a man that hath less wisdom, and wanteth understanding, with the fear of God, than he that aboundeth in understanding, and transgresseth the law of the most High.	21 E' meglio il timore del Signore con poca intelligenza che l'eccellere della mente con l'offesa della legge.
22 There is an exquisite subtilty, and the same is unjust.	22 C'è un'astuzia cavillosa e quindi ingiusta, e c'è chi imbroglia ma per ottenere la sentenza giusta.
23 And there is one that uttereth an exact word telling the truth. There is one that humbleth himself wickedly, and his interior is full of deceit:	23 C'è il malvagio che si mostra piegato dall'afflizione mentre dentro è pieno di menzogna;
24 And there is one that submitteth himself exceedingly with a great lowliness: and there is one that casteth down his countenance, and maketh as if he did not see that which is unknown:	24 fingendosi sordo e con la testa bassa, quando non è visto ti scavalcherà;
25 And if he be hindered from sinning for want of power, if he shall find opportunity to do evil, he will do it.	25 se non ti nuoce per mancanza di forza, alla prima occasione ti farà del male.
26 A man is known by his look, and a wise man, when thou meetest him, is known by his countenance.	26 L'uomo si può riconoscere a prima vista, e chi è saggio da come si presenta.
27 The attire of the body, and the laughter of the teeth, and the gait of the man, shew what he is.	27 L'abbigliamento, il sorriso dei denti, il modo d'incedere rivelano il suo tipo.
28 There is a lying rebuke in the anger of an injurious man: and there is a judgment that is not allowed to be good: and there is one that holdeth his peace, he is wise.
