Ezra 10

1 Now when Esdras was thus praying, and beseeching, and weeping, and lying before the temple of God, there was gathered to him of Israel an exceeding great assembly of men and women and children, and the people wept with much lamentation.	1 Mentre Esdra pregava e faceva questa confessione, tutto in lacrime e prostrato davanti alla casa di Dio, un'assemblea grandissima d'Israele si adunò attorno a lui: uomini, donne e fanciulli. Il popolo piangeva dirottamente.
2 And Sechenias the son of Jehiel of the sons of Elam answered, and said to Esdras: We have sinned against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: and now if there be repentance in Israel concerning this,	2 Allora Secania, figlio di Iechièl, dei figli di Elam, prese a dire a Esdra: "Abbiamo prevaricato contro il nostro Dio, sposando donne straniere, prese dalle popolazioni locali. Ma a questo riguardo rimane ancora una speranza per Israele!
3 Let us make a covenant with the Lord our God, to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the will of the Lord, and of them that fear the commandment of the Lord our God: let it be done according to the law.	3 Suvvia, stringiamo un patto con il nostro Dio, di rimandare tutte le donne straniere e i figli nati da esse, secondo il consiglio del mio signore e di quanti tremano per il comando del nostro Dio. Si faccia secondo la legge.
4 Arise, it is thy part to give orders, and we will be with thee: take courage, and do it.	4 Alzati, perché questo compito spetta a te. Noi saremo con te. Fatti coraggio e agisci!".
5 So Esdras arose, and made the chiefs of the priests and of the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word, and they swore.	5 Allora Esdra si alzò e fece giurare ai capi dei sacerdoti, dei leviti e di tutto Israele, che avrebbero agito in questa maniera. Essi giurarono.
6 And Esdras rose up from before the house of God, and went to the chamber of Johanan the son of Eliasib, and entered in thither: he ate no bread, and drank no water: for he mourned for the transgression of them that were come out of the captivity.	6 Poi Esdra si levò dal cospetto della casa di Dio e andò nella camera di Giovanni, figlio di Eliasib. Pernottò là senza mangiar pane né bere acqua, giacché faceva cordoglio per l'infedeltà dei reduci dall'esilio.
7 And proclamation was made in Juda and Jerusalem to all the children of the captivity, that they should assemble together into Jerusalem.	7 Si proclamò un ordine in Giuda e a Gerusalemme per tutti i deportati, affinché si radunassero a Gerusalemme:
8 And that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the ancients, all his substance should be taken away, and he should be cast out of the company of them that were returned from captivity.	8 e se qualcuno non fosse venuto entro tre giorni, tutti i suoi beni, secondo il consiglio dei capi e degli anziani, sarebbero stati votati all'anatema e lui stesso sarebbe stato escluso dall'assemblea dei reduci dall'esilio.
9 Then all the men of Juda, and Benjamin gathered themselves together to Jerusalem within three days, in the ninth month, the twentieth day of the month: and all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling because of the sin, and the rain.	9 Entro tre giorni tutti gli uomini di Giuda e Beniamino si radunarono a Gerusalemme. Era il ventesimo giorno del nono mese. Tutto il popolo prese posto sulla piazza della casa di Dio, tremante per l'avvenimento e per le piogge veementi.
10 And Esdras the priest stood up, and said to them: You have transgressed, and taken strange wives, to add to the sine of Israel.	10 Si alzò il sacerdote Esdra e disse loro: "Voi avete prevaricato, sposando donne straniere e avete così accresciuto la colpa d'Israele!
11 And now make confession to the Lord the God of your fathers, and do his pleasure, and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from your strange wives.	11 Ma ora date gloria al Signore, Dio dei nostri padri, e compite la sua volontà; separatevi dalle popolazioni locali e dalle donne straniere!".
12 And all the multitude answered and said with a loud voice: According to thy word unto us, so be it done.	12 Tutta l'assemblea rispose dichiarando a gran voce: "Sì! Noi dobbiamo agire secondo la tua parola.
13 But as the people are many, and it is time of rain, and me are not able to stand without, and it is not a work of one day or two, (for we have exceedingly sinned in this matter,)	13 Tuttavia il popolo è numeroso ed è la stagione delle piogge; non ci è possibile restare all'aperto. Né peraltro questo è lavoro di un giorno o due, perché siamo stati in molti a peccare in questa materia.
14 Let rulers be appointed in all the multitude: and in all our cities, let them that have taken strange wives come at the times appointed, and with them the ancients and the judges of every city, until the wrath of our God be turned away from us for this sin.	14 Rimangano qui perciò i nostri capi in luogo dell'intera assemblea; e tutti coloro che hanno sposato donne straniere nelle nostre città vengano poi in tempi determinati, assieme agli anziani e ai giudici di ciascuna città, fino a che s'allontani da noi l'ira terribile del nostro Dio per questa cagione".
15 Then Jonathan the son of Azahel, and Jaasia the son of Thecua were appointed over this, and Mesollam and Sebethai, Levites, helped them:	15 Soltanto Gionata, figlio di Asaèl, e Iaczeia, figlio di Tikva, vi si opposero, appoggiati da Mesullàm e dal levita Sabetai.
16 And the children of the captivity did so. And Esdras the priest, and the men heads of the families in the houses of their fathers, and all by their names, went and sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.	16 Ma i deportati si comportarono come era stato detto. Il sacerdote Esdra scelse alcuni capifamiglia secondo il loro casato e tutti designati per nome. Il primo giorno del decimo mese iniziarono le sedute per esaminare la questione;
17 And they made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.	17 e il primo giorno del primo mese si terminò con tutti coloro che avevano sposato donne straniere.
18 And there were found among the sons of the priests that had taken strange wives: Of the sons of Josue the son of Josedec, and his brethren, Maasia, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Godolia.	18 Si trovò che avevano sposato donne straniere tra i figli dei sacerdoti: dei figli di Giosuè figlio di Iozadak e tra i suoi fratelli: Maaseia, Eliezer, Iarib e Godolia.
19 And they gave their hands to put away their wives, and to offer for their offence a ram of the flock.	19 Essi hanno promesso con giuramento di rimandare le loro donne e hanno offerto un ariete, in espiazione della loro colpa.
20 And of the sons of Emmer, Hanani, and Zebedia.	20 Dei figli di Immer: Canani e Zebadia.
21 And of the sons of Harim, Maasia, and Elia, and Semeia, and Jehiel, and Ozias.	21 Dei figli di Carim: Maaseia, Elia, Semaia, Iechièl e Uzzia.
22 And of the sons of Pheshur, Elioenai, Maasia, Ismael, Nathanael, Jozabed, and Elasa.	22 Dei figli di Pascur: Elioenai, Maaseia, Ismaele, Natanaele, Iozabad ed Eleasa.
23 And of the sons of the Levites, Jozabed, and Semei, and Celaia, the same is Calita, Phataia, Juda, and Eliezer.	23 Degli appartenenti ai leviti: Iozabad, Simei, Chelaia, chiamato il chelita, Petachia, Giuda ed Eliezer.
24 And of the singing men, Elisiab: and of the porters, Sellum, and Telem, and	24 Dei cantori: Eliasib. Dei portinai: Sallùm, Telem e Uri.
25 And of Israel, of the sons of Pharos, Remeia, and Jezia, and Melchia, and Miamin, and Eliezer, and Melchia, and Banea.	25 Tra gli Israeliti: dei figli di Paros: Ramia, Izzia, Malchia, Miamin, Eleazaro, Malchia e Benaia.
26 And of the sons of Elam, Mathania, Zacharias, annd Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jerimoth, and Elia.	26 Dei figli di Elam: Mattania, Zaccaria, Iechièl, Abdi, Ieremot ed Elia.
27 And of the sons of Zethua, Elioenai, Eliasib, Mathania, Jerimuth, and Zabad, and Aziaza.	27 Dei figli di Zattu: Elioenai, Eliasib, Mattania, Ieremot, Zabad e Aziza.
28 And of the sons of Babai, Johanan, Hanania, Zabbai, Athalai:	28 Dei figli di Bebai: Giovanni, Anania, Zabbai e Atlai.
29 And of the sons of Bani, Mosollam, and Melluch, and Adaia, Jasub, and Seal, and Ramoth.	29 Dei figli di Bani: Mesullam, Malluch, Adaia, Iasub, Seal e Ieramot.
30 And of the sons of Phahath, Moab, Edna, and Chalal, Banaias, and Maasias, Mathanias, Beseleel, Bennui, and Manasse.	30 Dei figli di Pacat-Moab: Adna, Kelal, Benaia, Maaseia, Mattania, Bezaleel, Binnui e Manasse.
31 And of the sons of Herem, Eliezer, Josue, Melchias, Semeias, Simeon,	31 Dei figli di Carim: Eliezer, Ishshia, Malchia, Semaia, Simeone,
32 Benjamin, Maloch, Samarias.	32 Beniamino, Malluch, Semaria.
33 And of the sons of Hasom, Mathanai, Mathatha, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jermai, Manasse, Semei.	33 Dei figli di Casum: Mattenai, Mattatta, Zabad, Elifelet, Ieremai, Manasse e Simei.
34 Of the sons of Bani, Maaddi, Amran, and Uel,	34 Dei figli di Bani: Maadai, Amram, Uel,
35 Baneas, and Badaias, Cheliau,	35 Benaia, Bedia, Cheluu,
36 Vania, Marimuth, and Eliasib,	36 Vania, Meremot, Eliasib,
37 Mathanias, Mathania, and Jasi,	37 Mattenai, Iaasai.
38 And Bani, and Bennui, Semei,	38 Dei figli di Binnui: Simei,
39 And Salmias, and Nathan, and Adaias,	39 Selemia, Natan, Adaia.
40 And Mechnedebai, Sisai, Sarai,	40 Dei figli di Azzur: Sasai, Sarai,
41 Ezrel, and Selemiau, Semeria,	41 Azareel, Selemia, Semaria,
42 Sellum, Amaria, Joseph.	42 Sallum, Amaria, Giuseppe.
43 Of the sons of Nebo, Jehiel, Mathathias, Zabad, Zabina, Jeddu, and Joel, and Banaia.	43 Dei figli di Nebo: Ieiel, Mattitia, Zabad, Zebina, Iaddai, Gioele, Benaia.
44 All these had taken strange wives, and there were among them women that had borne children.	44 Tutti questi avevano sposato donne straniere e rimandarono le donne insieme con i figli che avevano avuto da esse.
