DOUAI-RHEIMSEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
And Josaphat his son reigned in his stead, and grew strong against Israel.1 En lugar de Asá reinó su hijo Josafat, el cual logró imponerse sobre Israel.
And he placed numbers of soldiers in all the fortified cities of Juda. And he put garrisons in the land of Juda, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.2 Instaló destacamentos en todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá, y puso gobernadores en el territorio de Judá y en las ciudades de Efraím que había conquistado su padre Asá.
And the Lord was with Josaphat, because he walked in the first ways of David his father: and trusted not in Baalim,3 El Señor estuvo con Josafat, porque él siguió los caminos que su padre había seguido al comienzo, y no buscó a los Baales,
But in the God of his father, and walk in his commandments, and not according to the sins of Israel.4 sino que buscó al Dios de su padre y procedió conforme a sus mandamientos, sin imitar lo que hacía Israel.
And the Lord established the kingdom in his hand, and all Juda brought presents to Josaphat: and he acquired immense riches, and much glory.5 El Señor afianzó el reino bajo su poder, y todo Judá le hacía regalos, de manera que su riqueza y su gloria llegaron a ser muy grandes.
And when his heart had taken courage for the ways of the Lord, he took away also the high places and the groves out of Juda.6 Su corazón siguió fervientemente los caminos del Señor, y él hizo desaparecer otra vez de Judá los lugares altos y los postes sagrados.
And in the third year of his reign, he sent of his princes Benhail, and Abdias, and Zacharias, and Nathanael, and Micheas, to teach in the cities of Juda:7 El tercer año de su reinado envió a sus oficiales Ben Jáil, Abdías, Zacarías, Natanael y Miqueas, para que enseñaran en las ciudades de Judá.
And with them the Levites, Semeias, end Nathanias, and Zabadias, and Asael, and Semiramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonias, and Tobias, and Thobadonias Levites, and with them Elisama, and Joram priests.8 Con ellos iban los levitas Semaías, Netanías, Zebadías, Asahel, Semiramot, Jonatán, Adonías, Tobías y Tobadonías, y también los sacerdotes Elisamá y Joram:
And they taught the people in Juda, having with them the book of the law of the Lord: and they went about all the cities of Juda, and instructed the people.9 todos ellos enseñaron en Judá, llevando consigo el libro de la Ley del Señor, y recorrieron todas las ciudades de Judá, enseñando al pueblo.
And the fear of the Lord came upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Juda, and they durst not make war against Josaphat.10 El terror del Señor se apoderó de todos los reinos de los países que rodeaban a Judá, de manera que no hicieron la guerra contra Josafat.
The Philistines also brought presents to Josaphat, and tribute in silver, and the Arabians brought him cattle, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and as many he goats.11 Algunos filisteos trajeron a Josafat presentes y plata en calidad de tributo. También los árabes le trajeron siete mil setecientos carneros y siete mil setecientos chivos.
And Josaphat grew, and became exceeding great: and he built in Juda houses like towers, and walled cities.12 Así Josafat prosperaba cada día más, y construyó en Judá fortalezas y ciudades de aprovisionamiento.
And he prepared many works in the cities of Juda: and he had warriors, and valiant men in Jerusalem.13 Josafat tenía abundantes reservas en las ciudades de Judá, y un regimiento de guerreros en Jerusalén.
Of whom this is the number of the houses and families of every one: in Juda captains of the army, Ednas the chief, and with him three hundred thousand most valiant men.14 Ellos estaban enrolados por clanes, de la siguiente manera: De Judá, jefes de mil hombres: Adná, el jefe, con 300.000 guerreros.
After him Johanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand.15 A su lado, Iehojanán, con 280.000 hombres.
And after him was Amasias the son of Zechri, consecrated to the Lord, and with him were two hundred thousand valiant men.16 A su lado, Amasías, hijo de Zicrí, que se había consagrado espontáneamente al Señor, con 200.000 guerreros.
After him was Eliada valiant in battle, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield.17 De Benjamín: Eliadá, guerrero valeroso, con 200.000 hombres armados de arco y escudo.
After him also was Jozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready for war.18 A su lado, Iehozabad, con 180.000 hombres equipados para la guerra.
All these were at the hand of the king, beside others, whom he had put in the walled cities, in all Juda.19 Estos eran los que estaban al servicio del rey, sin contar los que él había apostado en las ciudades fortificadas de todo Judá.
