And Josaphat his son reigned in his stead, and grew strong against Israel.1 En su lugar reinó su hijo Josafat, el cual se fortificó contra Israel.
And he placed numbers of soldiers in all the fortified cities of Juda. And he put garrisons in the land of Juda, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.2 Puso guarniciones en todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y estableció gobernadores en el país de Judá y en las ciudades de Efraím, que Asá su padre había conquistado.
And the Lord was with Josaphat, because he walked in the first ways of David his father: and trusted not in Baalim,3 Estuvo Yahveh con Josafat, porque anduvo por los caminos que había seguido anteriormente su padre David y no buscó a los Baales,
But in the God of his father, and walk in his commandments, and not according to the sins of Israel.4 sino que buscó al Dios de sus padres andando en sus mandamientos, sin imitar los hechos de Israel.
And the Lord established the kingdom in his hand, and all Juda brought presents to Josaphat: and he acquired immense riches, and much glory.5 Yahveh consolidó el reino en su mano; y todo Judá traía presentes a Josafat, que adquirió grandes riquezas y honores.
And when his heart had taken courage for the ways of the Lord, he took away also the high places and the groves out of Juda.6 Su corazón cobró ánimo en los caminos de Yahveh, hasta hacer desaparecer de Judá los altos y los cipos.
And in the third year of his reign, he sent of his princes Benhail, and Abdias, and Zacharias, and Nathanael, and Micheas, to teach in the cities of Juda:7 El año tercero de su reinado envió a sus oficiales Ben Jáyil, Abdías, Zacarías, Natanael y Miqueas para que enseñasen en las ciudades de Judá,
And with them the Levites, Semeias, end Nathanias, and Zabadias, and Asael, and Semiramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonias, and Tobias, and Thobadonias Levites, and with them Elisama, and Joram priests.8 y con ellos a los levitas Semaías, Netanías, Zebadías, Asahel, Semiramot, Jonatán, Adonías, Tobías, y con estos levitas a los sacerdotes Elisamá y Yehoram,
And they taught the people in Juda, having with them the book of the law of the Lord: and they went about all the cities of Juda, and instructed the people.9 los cuales enseñaron en Judá, llevando consigo el libro de la Ley de Yahveh. Recorrieron todas las ciudades de Judá, enseñando al pueblo.
And the fear of the Lord came upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Juda, and they durst not make war against Josaphat.10 El terror de Yahveh se apoderó de todos los reinos de los países que rodeaban a Judá, de manera que no hicieron guerra contra Josafat.
The Philistines also brought presents to Josaphat, and tribute in silver, and the Arabians brought him cattle, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and as many he goats.11 Los filisteos trajeron a Josafat presentes y plata como tributo. También los árabes le trajeron ganado menor: 7.700 carneros y 7.700 machos cabríos.
And Josaphat grew, and became exceeding great: and he built in Juda houses like towers, and walled cities.12 Así Josafat iba engrandeciéndose cada vez más, hasta lo sumo, y edificó en Judá castillos y ciudades de aprovisionamiento.
And he prepared many works in the cities of Juda: and he had warriors, and valiant men in Jerusalem.13 Llevó a cabo muchas obras en las ciudades de Judá, y tuvo una guarnición de guerreros escogidos en Jerusalén.
Of whom this is the number of the houses and families of every one: in Juda captains of the army, Ednas the chief, and with him three hundred thousand most valiant men.14 Esta es la lista, por sus casas paternas: De Judá, jefes de millar: Adná, el jefe, y con él 300.000 hombres esforzados.
After him Johanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand.15 A su lado el jefe Yehojanán, y con él 280.000.
And after him was Amasias the son of Zechri, consecrated to the Lord, and with him were two hundred thousand valiant men.16 A su lado Amasías, hijo de Zikrí, que se había consagrado espontáneamente a Yahveh, y bajo su mando 200.000 hombres esforzados.
After him was Eliada valiant in battle, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield.17 De Benjamín: Elyadá, hombre valeroso, y con él, 200.000 armados de arco y escudo.
After him also was Jozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready for war.18 A su lado Yehozabad, y con él, 180.000 equipados para la guerra.
All these were at the hand of the king, beside others, whom he had put in the walled cities, in all Juda.19 Estos eran los que servían al rey, sin contar los que el rey había puesto en las ciudades fortificadas por todo Judá.
