DIODATI	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Le disposizioni dell’animo son dell’uomo; Ma la risposta della lingua è dal Signore	1 It is for man to prepare the soul, and for the Lord to govern the tongue.
2 Tutte le vie dell’uomo gli paiono pure; Ma il Signore pesa gli spiriti	2 All the ways of a man are open to his eyes; the Lord is the one who weighs spirits.
3 Rimetti le tue opere nel Signore, E i tuoi pensieri saranno stabiliti	3 Open your works to the Lord, and your intentions will be set in order.
4 Il Signore ha fatto ogni cosa per sè stesso; Eziandio l’empio per lo giorno del male	4 The Lord has wrought all things because of himself. Likewise the impious is for the evil day.
5 Chiunque è altiero d’animo è abbominevole al Signore; D’ora in ora egli non resterà impunito	5 All the arrogant are an abomination to the Lord. Even if hand will be joined to hand, he is not innocent. The beginning of a good way is to do justice. And this is more acceptable with God than to immolate sacrifices.
6 L’iniquità sarà purgata con benignità, e con verità; E per lo timor del Signore l’uomo si ritrae dal male	6 By mercy and truth, iniquity is redeemed. And by the fear of the Lord, one turns away from evil.
7 Quando il Signore gradisce le vie dell’uomo, Pacifica con lui eziandio i suoi nemici	7 When the ways of man will please the Lord, he will convert even his enemies to peace.
8 Meglio vale poco con giustizia, Che grandi entrate senza dirittura	8 Better is a little with justice, than many fruits with iniquity.
9 Il cuor dell’uomo delibera della sua via; Ma il Signore dirizza i suoi passi	9 The heart of man disposes his way. But it is for Lord to direct his steps.
10 Indovinamento è nelle labbra del re; La sua bocca non falla nel giudicio	10 Foreknowledge is in the lips of the king. His mouth shall not err in judgment.
11 La stadera, e le bilance giuste son del Signore; Tutti i pesi del sacchetto son sua opera	11 Weights and scales are judgments of the Lord. And all the stones in the bag are his work.
12 Operare empiamente è abbominevole ai re; Perciocchè il trono sarà stabilito per giustizia	12 Those who act impiously are abominable to the king. For the throne is made firm by justice.
13 Le labbra giuste son quelle che i re gradiscono; Ed essi amano chi parla dirittamente	13 Just lips are the will of kings. He who speaks honestly shall be loved.
14 L’ira del re son messi di morte; Ma l’uomo savio la placherà.	14 The indignation of a king is a herald of death. And the wise man will appease it.
15 Nella chiarezza della faccia del re vi è vita; E la sua benevolenza è come la nuvola della pioggia della stagione della ricolta	15 In the cheerfulness of the king’s countenance, there is life. And his clemency is like belated rain.
16 Quant’è egli cosa migliore acquistar sapienza che oro! E quant’è egli cosa più eccellente acquistar prudenza che argento!	16 Possess wisdom, for it is better than gold. And acquire prudence, for it is more precious than silver.
17 La strada degli uomini diritti è di stornarsi dal male; Chi osserva la sua via guarda l’anima sua	17 The path of the just turns away from evils. He who guards his soul preserves his way.
18 La superbia viene davanti alla ruina, E l’alterezza dello spirito davanti alla caduta	18 Arrogance precedes destruction. And the spirit is exalted before a fall.
19 Meglio è essere umile di spirito co’ mansueti, Che spartir le spoglie con gli altieri	19 It is better to be humbled with the meek, than to divide spoils with the arrogant.
20 Chi è intendente nella parola troverà bene; E beato chi si confida nel Signore	20 The learned in word shall find good things. And whoever hopes in the Lord is blessed.
21 Il savio di cuore sarà chiamato intendente; E la dolcezza delle labbra aggiugnerà dottrina	21 Whoever is wise in heart shall be called prudent. And whoever is sweet in eloquence shall attain to what is greater.
22 Il senno è una fonte di vita in coloro che ne son dotati; Ma l’ammaestramento degli stolti è stoltizia	22 Learning is a fountain of life to one who possesses it. The doctrine of the foolish is senseless.
23 Il cuor dell’uomo savio rende avveduta la sua bocca, E aggiunge dottrina alle sue labbra	23 The heart of the wise shall instruct his mouth and add grace to his lips.
24 I detti soavi sono un favo di miele, Dolcezza all’anima, e medicina alle ossa	24 Careful words are a honeycomb: sweet to the soul and healthful to the bones.
25 Vi è tal via che pare diritta all’uomo, Il fine della quale son le vie della morte	25 There is a way which seems right to a man, and its end result leads to death.
26 L’anima di chi si affatica si affatica per lui stesso; Perciocchè la sua bocca lo preme	26 The soul of the laborer labors for himself, because his mouth has driven him to it.
27 L’uomo scellerato apparecchia del male; E in su le sue labbra vi è come un fuoco ardente.	27 The impious man digs up evil, and in his lips is a burning fire.
28 L’uomo perverso commette contese; E chi va sparlando disunisce gli amici	28 A perverse man stirs up lawsuits. And one who is verbose divides leaders.
29 L’uomo violento seduce il suo compagno, E lo conduce per una via che non è buona.	29 A man of iniquity entices his friend, and he leads him along a way that is not good.
30 Chi chiude gli occhi macchinando perversità, Dimena le labbra quando ha compiuto il male	30 Whoever, with astonished eyes, thinks up depravities, biting his lips, accomplishes evil.
31 La canutezza è una corona gloriosa; Ella si troverà nella via della giustizia	31 Old age is a crown of dignity, when it is found in the ways of justice.
32 Meglio vale chi è lento all’ira, che il forte; E meglio vale chi signoreggia il suo cruccio, che un prenditor di città	32 A patient man is better than a strong one. And whoever rules his soul is better than one who assaults cities.
33 La sorte è gittata nel grembo; Ma dal Signore procede tutto il giudicio di essa	33 Lots are cast into the lap, but they are tempered by the Lord.
