Josué 23

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Cuando ya hacía mucho tiempo que el Señor había concedido la paz a Israel, librándolo de todos los enemigos que tenía a su alrededor, Josué –que era un anciano de edad muy avanzada–	1 And when a long time was passed, after that the Lord had given peace to Israel, all the nations round about being subdued, and Josue being now old, and far advanced in years:
2 convocó a todo Israel, a sus ancianos, a sus jefes, a sus jueces y a sus escribas, y les dijo: «Yo estoy viejo; ya tengo muchos años.	2 Josue called for all Israel, and for the elders, and for the princes, and for the judges, and for the masters, and said to them: I am old, and far advanced in years:
3 Ustedes han visto cómo trató el Señor, su Dios, a todos esos pueblos a causa de ustedes, porque era el Señor, su Dios, el que combatía por ustedes.	3 And you see all that the Lord your God hath done to all the nations round about, how he himself hath fought for you:
4 Ahora miren bien: yo les he sorteado como herencia para cada tribu tanto a las naciones que todavía quedan como a las que yo mismo exterminé, desde el Jordán hasta el gran mar Occidental.	4 And now since he hath divided to you by lot all the land, from the east of the Jordan unto the great sea, and many nations yet remain:
5 El Señor, su Dios, las dispersará delante de ustedes y las desposeerá de sus dominios, para que ustedes puedan tomar posesión de su tierra, conforme a la promesa que les hizo el Señor, su Dios.	5 The Lord your God will destroy them, and take them away from before your face, and you shall possess the land as he hath promised you.
6 Por eso, sean cada vez más constantes en observar y en cumplir todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la Ley de Moisés, sin desviarse de él ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda,	6 Only take courage, and be careful to observe all things that are written in the book of the law of Moses: and turn not aside from them neither to the right hand nor to the left:
7 y sin mezclarse con esos pueblos que todavía quedan con ustedes. No invoquen el nombre de sus dioses ni juren por ellos; no los sirvan ni se postren ante ellos.	7 Lest after that you are come in among the Gentiles, who will remain among you, you should swear by the name of their gods, and serve them, and adore them:
8 Por el contrario, manténganse fieles al Señor, su Dios, como lo han hecho hasta el día de hoy.	8 But cleave ye unto the Lord your God: as you have done until this day.
9 El Señor desposeyó delante de ustedes a naciones numerosas y fuertes; y hasta el presente, nadie ha podido resistirles.	9 And then the Lord God will take away before your eyes nations that are great and very strong, and no man shall be able to resist you.
10 Bastaba uno solo para perseguir a mil, porque el Señor, su Dios, era el que combatía por ustedes, como él mismo les había prometido.	10 One of you shall chase a thousand men of the enemies: because the Lord your God himself will fight for you, as he hath promised.
11 Por eso, pongan sumo cuidado en amar al Señor, su Dios.	11 ,11This only take care of with all diligence, that you love the Lord your God.
12 Pero si se vuelven atrás y se unen al resto de esos pueblos que todavía quedan con ustedes; si establecen con ellos lazos de parentesco, mezclándose ustedes con ellos y ellos con ustedes,	12 But if you will embrace the errors of these nations that dwell among you, and make marriages with them, and join friendships:
13 entonces, tengan la plena seguridad de que el Señor, su Dios, no seguirá desposeyendo a esas naciones delante de ustedes, y ellos serán para ustedes una red, un lazo, un látigo sobre sus costados, y aguijones en sus ojos, hasta que por fin desaparecerán de esta hermosa tierra que les dio el Señor, su Dios.	13 Know ye for a certainty that the Lord your God will not destroy them before your face, but they shall be a pit and a snare in your way, and a stumblingblock at your side, and stakes in your eyes, till he take you away and destroy you from off this excellent land, which he hath given you.
14 Ya estoy a punto de irme por el camino que les toca recorrer a todos. Reconozcan entonces con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, que ni una sola de todas esas admirables promesas que les hizo el Señor, ha caído en el vacío: todas se han cumplido, y no falló ni una sola.	14 Behold this day I am going into the way of all the earth, and you shall know with all your mind that of all the words which the Lord promised to perform for you, not one hath failed.
15 Pero así como se han cumplido todas las admirables promesas que les hizo el Señor, su Dios, también él atraerá sobre ustedes todas las amenazas, hasta exterminarlos de esta hermosa tierra que les dio el Señor, su Dios.	15 Therefore as he hath fulfilled in deed, what he promised, and all things prosperous have come: so Will he bring upon you all the evils he hath threatened, till he take you away and destroy you from off this excellent land, which he hath given you,
16 Si quebrantan la alianza del Señor, su Dios, la que él les impuso, y van a servir a otros dioses y a postrarse delante de ellos, la ira del Señor arderá contra ustedes, y desaparecerán muy pronto de la hermosa tierra que él les dio».	16 When you shall have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which he hath made with you, and shall have served strange gods, and adored them : then shall the indignation of the Lord rise up quickly and speedily against you, and you shall be taken away from this excellent land, which he hath delivered to you.
