Juan 3

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Había entre los fariseos un hombre llamado Nicodemo, que era uno de los notables entre los judíos.	1 There was one of the Pharisees called Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews,
2 Fue de noche a ver a Jesús y le dijo: «Maestro, sabemos que tú has venido de parte de Dios para enseñar, porque nadie puede realizar los signos que tú haces, si Dios no está con él».	2 who came to Jesus by night and said, 'Rabbi, we know that you have come from God as a teacher; forno one could perform the signs that you do unless God were with him.'
3 Jesús le respondió: «Te aseguro que el que no renace de lo alto no puede ver el Reino de Dios.»	3 Jesus answered: In al truth I tel you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born fromabove.
4 Nicodemo le preguntó: «¿Cómo un hombre puede nacer cuando ya es viejo? ¿Acaso puede entrar por segunda vez en el seno de su madre y volver a nacer?».	4 Nicodemus said, 'How can anyone who is already old be born? Is it possible to go back into the wombagain and be born?'
5 Jesús le respondió: «Te aseguro que el que no nace del agua y del Espíritu no puede entrar en el Reino de Dios.	5 Jesus replied: In al truth I tel you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born throughwater and the Spirit;
6 Lo que nace de la carne es carne, lo que nace de Espíritu es espíritu.	6 what is born of human nature is human; what is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 No te extrañes de que te haya dicho: «Ustedes tienen que renacer de lo alto».	7 Do not be surprised when I say: You must be born from above.
8 El viento sopla donde quiere: tú oyes su voz, pero no sabes de dónde viene ni a dónde va. Lo mismo sucede con todo el que ha nacido del Espíritu».	8 The wind blows where it pleases; you can hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from orwhere it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.
9 «¿Cómo es posible todo esto?», le volvió a preguntar Nicodemo.	9 'How is that possible?' asked Nicodemus.
10 Jesús le respondió: «¿Tú, que eres maestro en Israel, no sabes estas cosas?	10 Jesus replied, 'You are the Teacher of Israel, and you do not know these things!
11 Te aseguro que nosotros hablamos de lo que hablamos de lo que sabemos y damos testimonio de lo que hemos visto, pero ustedes no aceptan nuestro testimonio.	11 'In al truth I tel you, we speak only about what we know and witness only to what we have seen and yet you people reject our evidence.
12 Si no creen cuando les hablo de las cosas de la tierra, ¿cómo creerán cuando les hable de las cosas del cielo?	12 If you do not believe me when I speak to you about earthly things, how wil you believe me when Ispeak to you about heavenly things?
13 Nadie ha subido al cielo, sino el que descendió del cielo, el Hijo del hombre que está en el cielo.	13 No one has gone up to heaven except the one who came down from heaven, the Son of man;
14 De la misma manera que Moisés levantó en alto la serpiente en el desierto, también es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sea levantado en alto,	14 as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so must the Son of man be lifted up
15 para que todos los que creen en él tengan Vida eterna.	15 so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.
16 Sí, Dios amó tanto al mundo, que entregó a su Hijo único para que todo el que cree en él no muera, sino que tenga Vida eterna.	16 For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him maynot perish but may have eternal life.
17 Porque Dios no envió a su Hijo para juzgar al mundo, sino para que el mundo se salve por él.	17 For God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but so that through him the world might besaved.
18 El que cree en él, no es condenado; el que no cree, ya está condenado, porque no ha creído en el nombre del Hijo único de Dios.	18 No one who believes in him wil be judged; but whoever does not believe is judged already, becausethat person does not believe in the Name of God's only Son.
19 En esto consiste el juicio: la luz vino al mundo, y los hombres prefirieron las tinieblas a la luz, porque sus obras eran malas.	19 And the judgement is this: though the light has come into the world people have preferred darkness tothe light because their deeds were evil.
20 Todo el que obra mal odia la luz y no se acerca a ella, por temor de que sus obras sean descubiertas.	20 And indeed, everybody who does wrong hates the light and avoids it, to prevent his actions from beingshown up;
21 En cambio, el que obra conforme a la verdad se acerca a la luz, para que se ponga de manifiesto que sus obras han sido hechas en Dios».	21 but whoever does the truth comes out into the light, so that what he is doing may plainly appear asdone in God.'
22 Después de esto, Jesús fue con sus discípulos a Judea. Permaneció allí con ellos y bautizaba.	22 After this, Jesus went with his disciples into the Judaean countryside and stayed with them there andbaptised.
23 Juan seguía bautizando en Enón, cerca de Salim, porque había mucha agua en ese lugar y la gente acudía para hacerse bautizar.	23 John also was baptising at Aenon near Salim, where there was plenty of water, and people were goingthere and were being baptised.
24 Juan no había sido encarcelado todavía	24 For John had not yet been put in prison.
25 Se originó entonces una discusión entre los discípulos de Juan y un judío, acerca de la purificación.	25 Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew about purification,
26 Fueron a buscar a Juan y le dijeron: «Maestro, el que estaba contigo al otro lado del Jordán y del que tú has dado testimonio, también bautiza y todos acuden a él».	26 so they went to John and said, 'Rabbi, the man who was with you on the far side of the Jordan, theman to whom you bore witness, is baptising now, and everyone is going to him.'
27 Juan respondió: «Nadie puede atribuirse nada que no haya recibido del cielo.	27 John replied: 'No one can have anything except what is given him from heaven.
28 Ustedes mismos son testigos de que he dicho: "Yo no soy el Mesías, pero he sido enviado delante de él".	28 'You yourselves can bear me out. I said, "I am not the Christ; I am the one who has been sent to go infront of him."
29 En las bodas, el que se casa es el esposo; pero el amigo del esposo, que está allí y lo escucha, se llena de alegría al oír su voz. Por eso mi gozo es ahora perfecto.	29 'It is the bridegroom who has the bride; and yet the bridegroom's friend, who stands there and listensto him, is fil ed with joy at the bridegroom's voice. This is the joy I feel, and it is complete.
30 Es necesario que él crezca y que yo disminuya».	30 He must grow greater, I must grow less.
31 El que viene de lo alto está por encima de todos. El que es de la tierra pertenece a la tierra y habla de la tierra. El que vino del cielo	31 He who comes from above is above al others; he who is of the earth is earthly himself and speaks inan earthly way. He who comes from heaven
32 da testimonio de lo que ha visto y oído, pero nadie recibe su testimonio.	32 bears witness to the things he has seen and heard, but his testimony is not accepted by anybody;
33 El que recibe su testimonio certifica que Dios es veraz.	33 though anyone who does accept his testimony is attesting that God is true,
34 El que Dios envió dice las palabras de Dios, porque Dios le da el Espíritu sin medida.	34 since he whom God has sent speaks God's own words, for God gives him the Spirit without reserve.
35 El Padre ama al Hijo y ha puesto todo en sus manos.	35 The Father loves the Son and has entrusted everything to his hands.
36 El que cree en el Hijo tiene Vida eterna. El que se niega a creer en el Hijo no verá la Vida, sino que la ira de Dios pesa sobre él.	36 Anyone who believes in the Son has eternal life, but anyone who refuses to believe in the Son willnever see life: God's retribution hangs over him.'
