1 Tu aimeras donc Yahvé ton Dieu et tu observeras chaque jour ses ordonnances, ses préceptes, ses lois et ses commandements.	1 “And so, love the Lord your God, and observe his precepts and ceremonies, his judgments and commandments, at all times.
2 Vous comprenez aujourd’hui les leçons de Yahvé votre Dieu; ce sera différent pour vos fils qui n’ont pas connu ni vu sa puissance, sa main forte et ses coups redoutables,	2 Acknowledge, on this day, the things that your sons did not know. For they did not see the chastisements of the Lord your God, his great acts, and powerful hand, and outstretched arm,
3 les signes et les merveilles qu’il a faites au milieu de l’Égypte contre le Pharaon, roi d’Égypte et tout son pays.	3 the signs and works that he did in the midst of Egypt, to Pharaoh, the king, and to his entire land,
4 Rappelez-vous ce qu’il a fait à l’armée d’Égypte, à ses chevaux et à ses chars, quand ils vous poursuivaient et qu’il a fait déborder sur eux les eaux de la mer des Joncs: Yahvé les a fait périr.	4 and to the entire army of the Egyptians, and to their horses and chariots: how the waters of the Red Sea covered them as they were pursuing you, and how the Lord wiped them away, even to the present day;
5 Vous savez ce qu’il a fait pour vous dans le désert jusqu’à votre arrivée en ce lieu,	5 and the things that he accomplished for you in the wilderness, until you arrived at this place;
6 comment il a traité Datan et Abiram, fils d’Éliab, fils de Ruben, lorsque la terre a ouvert sa bouche et les a engloutis sous le regard d’Israël avec leurs familles, leurs tentes et tous ceux qui s’étaient ralliés à leur cause:	6 and to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, who was the son of Reuben, those whom the earth, opening its mouth, engulfed with their households and tents, and with their entire substance which they had in the midst of Israel.
7 Vous avez vu de vos yeux toute cette œuvre puissante que Yahvé a accomplie.	7 Your eyes have seen all the great works of the Lord, which he has accomplished,
8 Vous observerez donc toutes les ordonnances que je vous commande aujourd’hui: ainsi vous serez forts et vous entrerez dans le pays qui deviendra vôtre.	8 so that you would keep all his commandments, which I entrust to you this day, and so that you would be able to enter and possess the land, toward which you are advancing,
9 Vos jours seront nombreux sur le sol que Yahvé a juré à vos pères de leur donner, et il en sera de même pour votre descendance dans ce pays où ruissellent le lait et le miel.	9 and so that you may live, for a long time, in the land which the Lord promised under oath to your fathers, and to their offspring, a land flowing with milk and honey.
10 Le pays où tu vas entrer pour en prendre possession, n’est pas comme l’Égypte d’où tu es sorti. Là-bas, quand tu semais la graine, tu devais irriguer en faisant des rigoles avec ton pied, comme dans un jardin à légumes.	10 For the land, which you shall enter and possess, is not like the land of Egypt, from which you departed, where, when seed has been sown, waters are brought in by irrigation, in the manner of gardens.
11 Mais le pays où tu vas passer pour le conquérir, est un pays de montagnes et de vallées qui reçoit ses eaux de la pluie du ciel.	11 Rather, it has mountainous regions and plains, which lay waiting for rain from heaven.
12 C’est un pays dont Yahvé ton Dieu prend soin et sur lequel il a sans cesse les yeux levés, du commencement jusqu’à la fin de l’année.	12 And the Lord your God always visits it, and his eyes are upon it, from the beginning of the year, all the way to its end.
13 Si vous écoutez bien les commandements que je vous donne aujourd’hui, si vous aimez Yahvé votre Dieu, si vous le servez de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme,	13 So then, if you obey my commandments, which I am instructing to you this day, so that you love the Lord your God, and serve him with your whole heart and your whole soul,
14 j’enverrai sur votre pays la pluie en son temps: la pluie d’automne et la pluie de printemps. Vous récolterez votre blé, votre raisin et votre huile fraîche.	14 he will give to your land the early rain and the late rain, so that you may gather your grain, and your wine, and your oil,
15 Je ferai pousser dans vos champs l’herbe pour vos troupeaux, vous mangerez et vous serez rassasiés.	15 and your hay from the fields in order to feed your cattle, and so that you yourselves may eat and be satisfied.
16 Mais attention, ne vous laissez pas séduire, ne vous laissez pas détourner, ne servez pas d’autres dieux et ne vous prosternez pas devant eux.	16 Be careful, lest perhaps your heart may be deceived, and you might withdraw from the Lord, and serve strange gods, and adore them.
17 Sinon la colère de Yahvé s’enflammera contre vous et il fermera le ciel. Il n’y aura plus de pluie et la terre ne donnera plus sa récolte; et vous, vous dépérirez rapidement dans ce bon pays que Yahvé vous donne.	17 And the Lord, becoming angry, might close up heaven, so that the rain would not descend, nor would the earth produce her seedlings, and then you would quickly perish from the excellent land, which the Lord will give to you.
18 Vous graverez donc ces paroles que je vous dicte sur votre cœur et dans votre âme, vous les attacherez comme un signe sur votre main, et elles seront comme un bandeau entre vos yeux.	18 Place these words of mine in your hearts and minds, and hang them as a sign on your hands, and arrange them between your eyes.
19 Vous les enseignerez à vos fils. Tu les leur répéteras lorsque tu seras assis dans ta maison, lorsque tu marcheras sur le chemin, quand tu te coucheras ou te lèveras.	19 Teach your sons to meditate on them, when you sit in your house, and when you walk along the way, and when you lie down or rise up.
20 Tu les écriras sur les montants de ta maison et sur tes portes.	20 You shall write them upon the doorposts and the gates of your house,
21 Ainsi tes jours et les jours de tes fils seront nombreux sur cette terre que Yahvé a juré à vos pères de leur donner. Alors vous durerez tout autant que les cieux au-dessus de la terre.	21 so that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your sons, in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, that he would give it to them for as long as heaven is suspended above the earth.
22 Si vous observez toutes ces ordonnances que je vous commande de mettre en pratique, si vous aimez Yahvé votre Dieu et marchez dans toutes ses voies, si vous vous attachez à lui,	22 For if you keep the commandments which I am entrusting to you, and if you do them, so that you love the Lord your God, and walk in all his ways, clinging to him,
23 Yahvé chassera toutes ces peuplades devant vous; vous dépouillerez des peuplades plus grandes et plus puissantes que vous.	23 the Lord will scatter all these nations before your face, and you shall possess them, though they are greater and stronger than you.
24 Tout endroit que la plante de vos pieds aura foulé, sera à vous, depuis le désert et le Liban, depuis le grand Fleuve, l’Euphrate, jusqu’à la mer Occidentale: ce seront là vos frontières.	24 Every place upon which your foot shall tread will be yours. From the desert, and from Lebanon, from the great river Euphrates, as far as the western sea, shall be your borders.
25 Personne ne vous résistera. Yahvé votre Dieu vous l’a dit, il sèmera devant vous la crainte et la terreur sur toute terre où vous mettrez le pied.	25 No one will stand against you. The Lord your God will spread the terror and dread of you over all the land upon which you shall tread, just as he has spoken to you.
26 Tu vois que je mets aujourd’hui devant vous la bénédiction et la malédiction:	26 Behold, I am setting forth in your sight today a blessing and a curse.
27 la bénédiction, si vous obéissez aux commandements de Yahvé votre Dieu que je vous donne aujourd’hui;	27 It will be a blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I am instructing to you this day.
28 la malédiction, si vous n’obéissez pas aux commandements de Yahvé votre Dieu, si vous vous détournez de la voie que je vous ai montrée en ce jour pour vous mettre à la traîne d’autres dieux que vous n’avez pas connus.	28 It will be a curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but instead you withdraw from the way, which I am revealing to you now, and you walk after foreign gods that you have not known.
29 Lorsque Yahvé votre Dieu vous aura fait entrer dans le pays que vous allez posséder, vous prononcerez la bénédiction sur le mont Garizim et la malédiction sur le mont Ébal.	29 Yet truly, when the Lord your God will have led you into the land, to which you are traveling for a habitation, you shall place the blessing upon Mount Gerizim, the curse upon Mount Ebal,
30 Ces montagnes sont de l’autre côté du Jourdain, derrière la route occidentale, au pays des Cananéens qui habitent dans la Araba en face de Guilgal, à côté du Térébinthe de Moré.	30 which are across the Jordan, behind the way which slopes toward the setting of the sun, in the land of the Canaanite, who lives in the plains opposite Gilgal, which is near the valley extending toward and entering a distant place.
31 Vous allez donc traverser le Jourdain pour conquérir le pays que Yahvé votre Dieu vous donne, vous le posséderez et vous y habiterez. 32 Vous aurez soin alors d’observer toutes ces lois et toutes ces ordonnances que je vous expose aujourd’hui.	31 For you shall cross over the Jordan, so that you may possess the land which the Lord your God will give you, so that you may have it and possess it.
	32 Therefore, see to it that you fulfill the ceremonies and judgments, which I am placing in your sight this day.”
