1 Tu aimeras donc Yahvé ton Dieu et tu observeras chaque jour ses ordonnances, ses préceptes, ses lois et ses commandements.	1 'You must love Yahweh your God and always keep his observances, his laws, his customs, hiscommandments.
2 Vous comprenez aujourd’hui les leçons de Yahvé votre Dieu; ce sera différent pour vos fils qui n’ont pas connu ni vu sa puissance, sa main forte et ses coups redoutables,	2 You are the ones who have had the experience, not your children. They have not had the experience,they have not witnessed the lessons of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand and his outstretchedarm,
3 les signes et les merveilles qu’il a faites au milieu de l’Égypte contre le Pharaon, roi d’Égypte et tout son pays.	3 the signs and the deeds which he performed in the heart of Egypt, against Pharaoh king of Egypt andhis entire country,
4 Rappelez-vous ce qu’il a fait à l’armée d’Égypte, à ses chevaux et à ses chars, quand ils vous poursuivaient et qu’il a fait déborder sur eux les eaux de la mer des Joncs: Yahvé les a fait périr.	4 what he did to the armies of Egypt, to their horses and their chariots, by overwhelming them with thewaters of the Sea of Reeds when they were pursuing you, and leaving no trace of them to this day;
5 Vous savez ce qu’il a fait pour vous dans le désert jusqu’à votre arrivée en ce lieu,	5 what he did for you in the desert, until you arrived here;

8 Vous observerez donc toutes les ordonnances que je vous commande aujourd’hui: ainsi vous serez forts et vous entrerez dans le pays qui deviendra vôtre.	8 'You must keep al the commandments which I enjoin on you today, so that you may have the strengthto conquer the country into which you are about to cross, to take possession of it,
9 Vos jours seront nombreux sur le sol que Yahvé a juré à vos pères de leur donner, et il en sera de même pour votre descendance dans ce pays où ruissellent le lait et le miel.	9 and so that you may live long in the country which Yahweh promised on oath to bestow on yourancestors and their descendants, a country flowing with milk and honey.
10 Le pays où tu vas entrer pour en prendre possession, n’est pas comme l’Égypte d’où tu es sorti. Là-bas, quand tu semais la graine, tu devais irriguer en faisant des rigoles avec ton pied, comme dans un jardin à légumes.	10 'For the country which you are about to enter and make your own is not like the country of Egyptfrom which you have come, where, having done your sowing, you had to water the seed by foot, as though in avegetable garden.
11 Mais le pays où tu vas passer pour le conquérir, est un pays de montagnes et de vallées qui reçoit ses eaux de la pluie du ciel.	11 No, the country which you are about to enter and make your own, is a country of hills and val eyswatered by the rain of heaven.
12 C’est un pays dont Yahvé ton Dieu prend soin et sur lequel il a sans cesse les yeux levés, du commencement jusqu’à la fin de l’année.	12 Yahweh your God looks after this country, the eyes of Yahweh your God are always on it, from thebeginning of the year to the end.
13 Si vous écoutez bien les commandements que je vous donne aujourd’hui, si vous aimez Yahvé votre Dieu, si vous le servez de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme,	13 Depend on it: if you faithfully obey the commandments I enjoin on you today, loving Yahweh yourGod and serving him with al your heart and al your soul,
14 j’enverrai sur votre pays la pluie en son temps: la pluie d’automne et la pluie de printemps. Vous récolterez votre blé, votre raisin et votre huile fraîche.	14 I shal give your country rain at the right time, rain in autumn, rain in spring, so that you can harvestyour wheat, your new wine and your oil.
15 Je ferai pousser dans vos champs l’herbe pour vos troupeaux, vous mangerez et vous serez rassasiés.	15 I shal provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat to your heart's content.
16 Mais attention, ne vous laissez pas séduire, ne vous laissez pas détourner, ne servez pas d’autres dieux et ne vous prosternez pas devant eux.	16 Beware of letting your heart be seduced: if you go astray, serve other gods and bow down to them,
17 Sinon la colère de Yahvé s’enflammera contre vous et il fermera le ciel. Il n’y aura plus de pluie et la terre ne donnera plus sa récolte; et vous, vous dépérirez rapidement dans ce bon pays que Yahvé vous donne.	17 Yahweh's anger wil be kindled against you, he wil shut the heavens, there wil be no more rain, thesoil wil not yield its produce and, in the fine country given you by Yahweh, you wil quickly perish.
18 Vous graverez donc ces paroles que je vous dicte sur votre cœur et dans votre âme, vous les attacherez comme un signe sur votre main, et elles seront comme un bandeau entre vos yeux.	18 'Let these words of mine remain in your heart and in your soul; fasten them on your hand as a signand on your forehead as a headband.
19 Vous les enseignerez à vos fils. Tu les leur répéteras lorsque tu seras assis dans ta maison, lorsque tu marcheras sur le chemin, quand tu te coucheras ou te lèveras.	19 Teach them to your children, and keep on tel ing them, when you are sitting at home, when you areout and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up.
20 Tu les écriras sur les montants de ta maison et sur tes portes.	20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates,
21 Ainsi tes jours et les jours de tes fils seront nombreux sur cette terre que Yahvé a juré à vos pères de leur donner. Alors vous durerez tout autant que les cieux au-dessus de la terre.	21 so that you and your children may live long in the country which Yahweh swore to your ancestorsthat he would give them for as long as there is a sky above the earth.
22 Si vous observez toutes ces ordonnances que je vous commande de mettre en pratique, si vous aimez Yahvé votre Dieu et marchez dans toutes ses voies, si vous vous attachez à lui,	22 'For if you faithful y keep and observe al these commandments that I enjoin on you today, lovingYahweh your God, following all his ways and holding fast to him,
23 Yahvé chassera toutes ces peuplades devant vous; vous dépouillerez des peuplades plus grandes et plus puissantes que vous.	23 Yahweh wil dispossess al these nations before you, and you wil dispossess nations greater andmore powerful than yourselves.
24 Tout endroit que la plante de vos pieds aura foulé, sera à vous, depuis le désert et le Liban, depuis le grand Fleuve, l’Euphrate, jusqu’à la mer Occidentale: ce seront là vos frontières.	24 Wherever the sole of your foot treads wil be yours; your territory will run from the desert al the wayto the Lebanon; and from the River, from the River Euphrates, as far as the Western Sea, wil be your territory.
25 Personne ne vous résistera. Yahvé votre Dieu vous l’a dit, il sèmera devant vous la crainte et la terreur sur toute terre où vous mettrez le pied.	25 No one wil be able to resist you; Yahweh your God will make you feared and dreaded throughout theterritory you tread, as he has promised you.
26 Tu vois que je mets aujourd’hui devant vous la bénédiction et la malédiction:	26 'Today, look, I am offering you a blessing and a curse:
27 la bénédiction, si vous obéissez aux commandements de Yahvé votre Dieu que je vous donne aujourd’hui;	27 a blessing, if you obey the commandments of Yahweh your God which I enjoin on you today;
28 la malédiction, si vous n’obéissez pas aux commandements de Yahvé votre Dieu, si vous vous détournez de la voie que je vous ai montrée en ce jour pour vous mettre à la traîne d’autres dieux que vous n’avez pas connus.	28 a curse, if you disobey the commandments of Yahweh your God and leave the way which today Ihave marked out for you, by following other gods hitherto unknown to you.
29 Lorsque Yahvé votre Dieu vous aura fait entrer dans le pays que vous allez posséder, vous prononcerez la bénédiction sur le mont Garizim et la malédiction sur le mont Ébal.	29 And when Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are about to enter andmake your own, you must set the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.
30 Ces montagnes sont de l’autre côté du Jourdain, derrière la route occidentale, au pays des Cananéens qui habitent dans la Araba en face de Guilgal, à côté du Térébinthe de Moré.	30 (These mountains, as everyone knows, are on the other side of the Jordan on the westward road, inthe territory of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, near the Oak of Moreh.)
31 Vous allez donc traverser le Jourdain pour conquérir le pays que Yahvé votre Dieu vous donne, vous le posséderez et vous y habiterez. 32 Vous aurez soin alors d’observer toutes ces lois et toutes ces ordonnances que je vous expose aujourd’hui.	31 For you are about to cross the Jordan, to enter and take possession of the country given you byYahweh your God. You wil possess it, you wil live in it,
	32 and you must keep and observe al the laws and customs promulgated by me to you today.'
