BIBLES DES PEUPLES	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Elle est le livre des commandements de Dieu, la Loi qui demeure pour toujours. Quiconque s’y attache, vivra, mais pour ceux qui l’abandonnent c’est la mort.	1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.
2 Reviens, Jacob, embrasse cette sagesse, marche à sa lumière jusqu’à la splendeur.	2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:
3 Ne cède pas à d’autres ta gloire, ni tes privilèges à une nation étrangère.	3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.
4 Heureux sommes-nous Israël: ce qui plaît à Dieu nous a été révélé!	4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!
5 Courage, ô mon peuple, toi qui gardes vivant le souvenir d’Israël.	5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!
6 Vous avez été vendus aux nations, mais non pour votre ruine; vous aviez excité la colère de Dieu et c’est pourquoi vous avez été livrés à vos ennemis.	6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,
7 Vous aviez irrité celui qui vous a faits, avec vos sacrifices offerts, non à Dieu, mais aux démons.	7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.
8 Vous avez oublié le Dieu éternel qui vous a nourris, et vous avez fait la tristesse de Jérusalem qui vous a élevés.	8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,
9 Voyant la colère qui de par Dieu venait sur vous, elle a dit: “Voyez, cités voisines de Sion, quel deuil il a fait tomber sur moi!	9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.
10 J’ai vu l’exil de mes fils et de mes filles: c’est l’Éternel qui l’a voulu pour eux.	10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.
11 J’étais joyeuse quand je les nourrissais, et ce furent des larmes de deuil quand je les vis partir.	11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.
12 Que nul ne se réjouisse, me voyant veuve, abandonnée de tous. C’est à cause des péchés de mes fils que je suis restée seule: tous s’étaient détournés de la loi de Dieu.	12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,
13 Ils ont négligé ses préceptes, ils n’ont pas marché dans la voie de ses commandements, ils n’ont pas suivi la discipline qui mène à la droiture.	13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.
14 Venez, voisines de Sion, faites mémoire de l’exil que l’Éternel a voulu pour mes fils et mes filles.	14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.
15 Il a fait venir contre eux, de très loin, une nation cruelle au langage barbare, qui n’a pas respecté le vieillard, et n’a eu nulle pitié pour l’enfant;	15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;
16 elle a pris le fils unique de la veuve, elle a emmené sa fille et l’a laissée seule.	16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.
17 Comment pourrais-je, moi, vous secourir?	17 For my part, how could I help you?
18 Mais celui qui a fait venir sur vous ce malheur vous reprendra de la main de vos ennemis.	18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.
19 Allez mes fils, allez: je reste seule.	19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;
20 J’ai quitté ma robe des jours de fête et j’ai revêtu le sac de la pénitence, car je veux crier vers l’Éternel tous les jours de ma vie.	20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.
21 Courage mes fils, criez vers le Seigneur, c’est lui qui vous arrachera à la violence de l’ennemi.	21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;
22 J’ai attendu de l’Éternel votre délivrance, et voici que l’Éternel m’a rendu la joie: bientôt se lèvera sur vous la miséricorde de l’Éternel, votre Sauveur.	22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.
23 Je vous ai laissé partir dans les larmes et le deuil, mais dans la joie et la fête Dieu vous ramènera à moi pour toujours.	23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.
24 Les voisines de Sion ont vu votre captivité, mais bientôt elles vous verront délivrés par Dieu; il vous manifestera la gloire immense et l’éclat du Dieu éternel.	24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.
25 Mes enfants, supportez avec patience ce châtiment de Dieu qui est tombé sur vous; votre ennemi vous a persécuté mais bientôt vous verrez sa chute et vous mettrez votre pied sur son cou.	25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.
26 Mes enfants bien-aimés ont marché par de rudes chemins; ils allaient comme un troupeau volé par l’ennemi.	26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.
27 Courage, mes fils, criez vers le Seigneur: celui qui a fait venir l’épreuve se souviendra de vous.	27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.
28 Vous avez voulu vous éloigner de Dieu: avec dix fois plus d’ardeur revenez à lui et cherchez-le.	28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;
29 Celui qui vous a envoyé le malheur vous donnera salut et joie éternelle.”	29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.
30 Courage Jérusalem, celui qui t’a donné ton nom te consolera.	30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.
31 Malheur à ceux qui t’ont fait du mal et se sont réjouis de ta chute!	31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .
32 Malheur aux villes dans lesquelles tes enfants furent esclaves! Malheur à la nation où ils ont dû vivre!	32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,
33 Elle s’est réjouie de ta chute, elle a pris plaisir à ta ruine! Mais à son tour elle connaîtra la douleur et la ruine.	33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.
34 Elle n’aura plus la joie d’être un peuple nombreux, son orgueil fera place au deuil.	34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;
35 Un feu venu de l’Éternel la brûlera pour de longs jours, elle sera pour longtemps un refuge de démons.	35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.
36 Tourne-toi vers l’orient, Jérusalem, vois: la joie te vient de Dieu.	36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.
37 Tes fils dispersés reviennent; de l’orient comme de l’occident ils se rassemblent à l’appel du Saint et jouissent de la gloire de Dieu.	37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.
