BIBBIA VOLGARE	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Beato l'uomo il quale non ha straparlato per le parole della bocca sua, e non è stimolato nella tristizia del peccato.	1 Blessed is the man that hath not slipped by a word out of his mouth, and is not pricked with the remorse of sin.
2 Felice è colui che non ebbe tristizia nell' animo suo, e non falla della sua speranza.	2 Happy is he that hath had no sadness of his mind, and who is not fallen from his hope.
3 La ricchezza è venuta sanza ragione all' uomo cupido e tenace: a che è l'oro utile all' uomo invidioso?	3 Riches are not comely for a covetous man and a niggard, and what should an envious man do with gold?
4 Quello che dell' animo suo ingiustamente raccoglie, sì raduna ad altri; e nelli beni suoi altri trionferà.	4 He that gathereth together by wronging his own soul, gathereth for others, and another will squander away his goods in rioting.
5 Quello che è a sè reo, a cui altro sarà buono? ed elli non si rallegrerae nelli suoi beni.	5 He that is evil to himself, to whom will he be good? and he shall not take pleasure in his goods.
6 Nulla cosa è peggiore, che colui che ha invidia contro a sè medesimo; e questo è uno rendimento della malizia sua.	6 There is none worse than he that envieth himself, and this is the reward of his wickedness:
7 E se egli farà bene ignorantemente, non volendolo fare, alla perfine manifesta la malizia sua.	7 And if he do good, he doth it ignorantly, and unwillingly: and at the last he discovereth his wickedness.
8 Malvagio è l'occhio dello invidioso; e travolgente la faccia sua, e dispregiante l'anima sua.	8 The eye of the envious is wicked: and he turneth away his face, and despiseth his own soul.
9 L'occhio dello avaro sì è insaziabile in parte d' iniquitade; non si sazierae infino ch' elli consumi (la ingiustizia) inaridendo l' anima sua.	9 The eye of the covetous man is insatiable in his portion of iniquity: he will not be satisfied till he consume his own soul, drying it up.
10 Il reo occhio alli mali si volgerae, e non si sazierà di pane, e sarae in tristizia sopra la mensa sua.	10 An evil eye is towards evil things: and he shall not have his fill of bread, but shall be needy and pensive at his own table.
11 Figliuolo, se tu hai, fa bene teco, e offera a Dio degna offerta.	11 My son, if thou have any thing, do good to thyself, and offer to God worthy offerings.
12 Ricordati che la morte non tarda; dà il testamento di quelli dello inferno, per che t' è dimostrato; il testamento di questo mondo è, che l'uomo per morte muoia.	12 Remember that death is not slow, and that the covenant of hell hath been shewn to thee: for the covenant of this world shall surely die.
13 Fa bene allo amico inanzi la tua morte, secondo la facoltade tua dà al povero	13 Do good to thy friend before thou die, and according to thy ability, stretching out thy hand give to the poor.
14 E non sii ingannato dal buono die, e la particola del buono di non ti lasci.	14 Defraud not thyself of the good day, and let not the part of a good gift overpass thee.
15 Non lasciarai li dolori tuoi alli altri nella divisione della parte?	15 Shalt thou not leave to others to divide by lot thy sorrows and labours?
16 Da, e togli, e giustifica l'anima tua.	16 Give and take, and justify thy soul.
17 Opera giustizia inanzi la morte tua, però che non si trova vivanda in inferno.	17 Before thy death work justice: for in hell there is no finding food.
18 Ogni carne, sì come il fieno, s' invecchia, e sì come foglia fruttificante nell' albero verde.	18 All flesh shall fade as grass, and as the leaf that springeth out on a green tree.
19 Chè altre [si] gènerano, altre caggiono; così è la generazione della carne e del sangue; altra finisce e altra nasce.	19 Some grow, and some fall off: so is the generation of flesh and blood, one cometh to an end, and another is born.
20 Ogni opera corruttibile mancherà in fine; e colui che fa quella opera anderà con essa.	20 Every work that is corruptible shall fail in the end: and the worker thereof shall go with it.
21 E ogni opera eletta fia giustificata; e colui che la fa, sarà onorato in quella.	21 And every excellent work shall be justified: and the worker thereof shall be honoured therein.
22 Beato l'uomo che nella sapienza dimorerae, e colui che contemplerae nella sua giustizia, e nel senno sì penserà la sapienza di Dio.	22 Blessed is the man that shall continue in wisdom, and that shall meditate in his justice, and in his mind shall think of the all seeing eye of God.
23 Colui che considera le vie di quella nel cuore suo, e colui che intende li secreti d' essa, va dietro a lei sì come ricercatore, e perseverante nelle sue vie;	23 He that considereth her ways in his heart, and hath understanding in her secrets, who goeth after her as one that traceth, and stayeth in her ways:
24 che guarda per le finestre di colei, e intende nelle porte di colei;	24 He who looketh in at her windows, and hearkeneth at her door:
25 colui che si riposa appresso la casa di colei, e nelli pareti suoi si fortificherae, ordinerae la casellina sua alla casa di colei; e li beni per lei si riposaranno alla casellina di colui.	25 He that lodgeth near her house, and fastening a pin in her walls shall set up his tent nigh unto her, where good things shall rest in his lodging for ever.
26 Ordinerae li figliuoli suoi sotto la copertura di colei, e dimorerae sotto li rami di colei.	26 He shall set his children under her shelter, and shall lodge under her branches:
27 Sarà coperto dal caldo sotto la covertura di colei, e nella gloria sua si riposerà.	27 He shall be protected under her covering from the heat, and shall rest in her glory.
