LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Tre giorni dopo ci fu una festa di nozze in Cana di Galilea e c'era là la madre di Gesù.	1 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee. The mother of Jesus was there,
2 Fu invitato alle nozze anche Gesù con i suoi discepoli.	2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited.
3 Tutto per mezzo di lui fu fatto e senza di lui non fu fatto nulla di ciò che è stato fatto.Ed essendo venuto a mancare il vino, la madre di Gesù gli dice: "Non hanno più vino".	3 And they ran out of wine, since the wine provided for the feast had al been used, and the mother ofJesus said to him, 'They have no wine.'
4 Le dice Gesù: "Che vuoi da me, o donna? Non è ancora venuta la mia ora".	4 Jesus said, 'Woman, what do you want from me? My hour has not come yet.'
5 Sua madre dice ai servi: "Fate quello che vi dirà".	5 His mother said to the servants, 'Do whatever he tells you.'
6 C'erano là sei giare di pietra per le abluzioni dei Giudei, capaci da due a tre metrète ciascuna.	6 There were six stone water jars standing there, meant for the ablutions that are customary among theJews: each could hold twenty or thirty gal ons.
7 Dice loro Gesù: "Riempite le giare di acqua". Le riempirono fino all'orlo.	7 Jesus said to the servants, 'Fil the jars with water,' and they fil ed them to the brim.
8 Dice loro: "Ora attingete e portatene al direttore di mensa". Essi ne portarono.	8 Then he said to them, 'Draw some out now and take it to the president of the feast.'
9 Come il direttore di mensa ebbe gustata l'acqua divenuta vino (egli non sapeva donde veniva, mentre lo sapevano i servi che avevano attinto l'acqua), chiama lo sposo	9 They did this; the president tasted the water, and it had turned into wine. Having no idea where it camefrom -- though the servants who had drawn the water knew -- the president of the feast cal ed the bridegroom
10 e gli dice: "Tutti presentano dapprima il vino buono e poi, quando si è brilli, quello scadente. Tu hai conservato il vino buono fino ad ora".	10 and said, 'Everyone serves good wine first and the worse wine when the guests are wel wined; butyou have kept the best wine til now.'
11 Venne nella sua proprietà e i suoi non lo accolsero.	11 This was the first of Jesus' signs: it was at Cana in Galilee. He revealed his glory, and his disciplesbelieved in him.
12 Dopo questo fatto, discese a Cafarnao: lui, sua madre, i fratelli e i suoi discepoli, e rimasero là non molti giorni.	12 After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and his brothers and his disciples, but theystayed there only a few days.
13 Era prossima la Pasqua dei Giudei e Gesù salì a Gerusalemme.	13 When the time of the Jewish Passover was near Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 E il Verbo si fece carne e dimorò fra noi e abbiamo visto la sua gloria, gloria come di Unigenito dal Padre, pieno di grazia e di verità.	14 and in the Temple he found people selling cattle and sheep and doves, and the money changerssitting there.

16 e disse ai venditori di colombe: "Portate via questa roba di qui e non fate della casa del Padre mio una casa di mercato".	16 and said to the dove sel ers, 'Take all this out of here and stop using my Father's house as a market.'
17 Si ricordarono i suoi discepoli che sta scritto: Lo zelo della tua casa mi divorerà.	17 Then his disciples remembered the words of scripture: I am eaten up with zeal for your house.
18 Gli risposero allora i Giudei e gli domandarono: "Quale segno ci mostri per agire così?".	18 The Jews intervened and said, 'What sign can you show us that you should act like this?'
19 Gesù replicò loro: "Distruggete questo santuario e in tre giorni lo farò risorgere".	19 Jesus answered, 'Destroy this Temple, and in three days I will raise it up.'
20 Dissero allora i Giudei: "In quarantasei anni fu costruito questo santuario, e tu in tre giorni lo farai risorgere?".	20 The Jews replied, 'It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple: are you going to raise it up again inthree days?'
21 Egli però parlava del santuario del suo corpo.	21 But he was speaking of the Temple that was his body,
22 Perciò, quando risuscitò dai morti, i suoi discepoli si ricordarono che egli aveva detto questo e credettero alla Scrittura e alle parole che aveva pronunciato Gesù.	22 and when Jesus rose from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believedthe scripture and what he had said.
23 Mentre egli si trovava a Gerusalemme durante la festività della Pasqua, molti credettero nel suo nome, vedendo i segni che egli faceva.	23 During his stay in Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover many believed in his name when they sawthe signs that he did,
24 Gesù però diffidava di loro perché conosceva tutti	24 but Jesus knew al people and did not trust himself to them;
25 e non aveva bisogno che altri testimoniasse sull'uomo; egli infatti sapeva ciò che vi era nell'uomo.	25 he never needed evidence about anyone; he could tell what someone had within.
