1 E pervenendo Paulo in Derben e in Listra, trovò uno cristiano, il quale avea nome Timoteo, ed era figliuolo di una fedele donna cristiana, ma di padre pagano.	1 Then he arrived at Derbe and Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple named Timothy was there, the son of a faithful Jewish woman, his father a Gentile.
2 A costui rendendo buona testimonianza (tutti) li fedeli, ch' erano in Listra e in Iconio,	2 The brothers who were at Lystra and Iconium rendered good testimony to him.
3 Paulo il prese per suo discepolo, e sì lo circoncise, per li iudei ch' erano in quelli luoghi, li quali tutti sapevano che il padre era pagano.	3 Paul wanted this man to travel with him, and taking him, he circumcised him, because of the Jews who were in those places. For they all knew that his father was a Gentile.
4 E andando (predicando) per diverse contrade, ammaestravanli di osservare li comandamenti degli apostoli, e de' seniori li quali erano in Ierusalem.	4 And as they were traveling through the cities, they delivered to them the dogmas to be kept, which were decreed by the Apostles and elders who were at Jerusalem.
5 Onde le Chiese si confermavano nella fede, e il numero delli fedeli cresceva continuamente.	5 And certainly, the Churches were being strengthened in faith and were increasing in number every day.
6 E passando le contrade di Frigia e di Galazia, furono proibiti dallo Spirito Santo di (andare e) predicare in Asia.	6 Then, while crossing through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were prevented by the Holy Spirit from speaking the Word in Asia.
7 E venendo in Misia, tentavano d' andare in Bitinia; ma questo non permise il Spirito Santo, (cioè che li impedì, che non andorono).	7 But when they had arrived in Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not permit them.
8 Onde poi ch' ebbeno passata la (predetta terra) Misia, discesono in Troade.	8 Then, when they had crossed through Mysia, they descended to Troas.
9 E ivi Paulo ebbe una tale visione, cioè che gli apparve uno uomo di Macedonia, il quale (umilmente) i pregava, e diceva: passa in Macedonia, e aiutaci.	9 And a vision in the night was revealed to Paul of a certain man of Macedonia, standing and pleading with him, and saying: “Cross into Macedonia and help us!”
10 Dopo la quale visione incontanente procurassimo d'andare, avendo per certo che Dio ci chiamava (e mandava) a predicare a quella gente.	10 Then, after he saw the vision, immediately we sought to set out for Macedonia, having been assured that God had called us to evangelize to them.
11 E navigando da Troade, per diritto corso pervenimmo in Samotracia; il seguente di giungemmo a Napoli,	11 And sailing from Troas, taking a direct path, we arrived at Samothrace, and on the following day, at Neapolis,
12 e indi a Filippi, ch' è nella prima parte di Macedonia, nella quale città erano quasi pur forestieri; e quivi stemmo alquanti giorni (pensando e) ragionando di Dio.	12 and from there to Philippi, which is the preeminent city in the area of Macedonia, a colony. Now we were in this city some days, conferring together.
13 Il dì del sabbato seguente uscimmo fuori della porta a lato al fiume, dove era certo luogo d'orazione; e quivi sedendo, parlammo con molte donne che verano congregate.	13 Then, on the Sabbath day, we were walking outside the gate, beside a river, where there seemed to be a prayer gathering. And sitting down, we were speaking with the women who had assembled.
14 Fra le quali v'era una donna che aveva nome Lidia, ed era della città di Tiatira, e faceva arte di porpore. Questa era molto fedele; onde Dio gli aperse il cuore a intendere quello che Paulo diceva.	14 And a certain woman, named Lydia, a seller of purple in the city of Thyatira, a worshiper of God, listened. And the Lord opened her heart to be receptive to what Paul was saying.
15 E (credette e) ricevette il battesimo con tutta la sua famiglia; e (dopo il battesimo) ci pregò, e disse: se ci reputate (degni e) fedeli a Dio, pregovi che vegniate a casa mia. E così ci fece (una cortese) forza.	15 And when she had been baptized, with her household, she pleaded with us, saying: “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, enter into my house and lodge there.” And she convinced us.
16 E andando noi poi all' orazione, avvenne che scontrammo una giovane che avea spirito pitonico, (cioè che per opera del diavolo indovinava e prediceva molte cose); per la quale cosa grande guadagno dava alli suoi signori.	16 Then it happened that, as we were going out to prayer, a certain girl, having a spirit of divination, met with us. She was a source of great profit to her masters, through her divining.
17 Questa, venendoci drietro, gridava e diceva: questi uomini sono servi di Dio eccelso, e insegnano la via della salute.	17 This girl, following Paul and us, was crying out, saying: “These men are servants of the Most High God! They are announcing to you the way of salvation!”
18 E così fece (e gridò) più giorni. Delle quali cose Paulo dolendosi, rivolsesi a lei, e disse a quello malo spirito (che parlava in lei): io ti comando nel nome di Iesù Cristo, ch' eschi di lei. E incontanente uscì.	18 Now she behaved in this way for many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you, in the name of Jesus Christ, to go out from her.” And it went away in that same hour.
19 La quale cosa vedendo li signori suoi, e considerando che ne perdevano il loro guadagno presero (a furore) Paulo e Sila, e menoronli inanzi a' principi (e a' rettori).	19 But her masters, seeing that the hope of their profit went away, apprehended Paul and Silas, and they brought them to the rulers at the courthouse.
20 E accusaronli, e dissono: questi uomini conturbano la città nostra, ed essendo iudei	20 And presenting them to the magistrates, they said: “These men are disturbing our city, since they are Jews.
21 prèdicano (una setta e) uno modo di vivere, il quale non è lecito di tenere nè di ricevere, perchè siamo Romani.	21 And they are announcing a way which is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, since we are Romans.”
22 E (intanto concitorono la gente, che) il popolo corse a furore contra a loro, e li principi stracciorono le loro vestimenta indosso, e fecenli battere (duramente) con certe verghe.	22 And the people rushed together against them. And the magistrates, tearing their tunics, ordered them to be beaten with staffs.
23 E poi li misero in prigione, comandando alla guardia che li guardasse' diligentemente.	23 And when they had inflicted many scourges on them, they cast them into prison, instructing the guard to watch them diligently.
24 La quale ricevendo il detto comandamento, li mise nel fondo della prigione con li piedi nel ceppo.	24 And since he had received this kind of order, he cast them into the interior prison cell, and he restricted their feet with stocks.
25 Ma elli (di tutto questo) lodavano e adoravano Iddio; e stando così in su la mezza notte, udendoli le guardie (così laudare Dio),	25 Then, in the middle of the night, Paul and Silas were praying and praising God. And those who were also in custody were listening to them.
26 venne uno sùbito terremuoto sì grande, che si commosse tutta quella casa insino alli fondamenti; e tutti li usci s' apersero e [si] ruppero tutti li legami.	26 Yet truly, there was a sudden earthquake, so great that the foundations of the prison were moved. And immediately all the doors were opened, and the bindings of everyone were released.
27 (Al quale rumore) svegliandosi lo soprastante della prigione, e vedendo aperte le uscia, trasse fuori il coltello per uccidersi, pensando che gli apostoli fossero fuggiti.	27 Then the prison guard, having been jarred awake, and seeing the doors of the prison open, drew his sword and intended to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had fled.
28 Dalla quale cosa Paulo avvedendosi, gridò con grande voce, e disse: non ti fare male, però che tutti ci siamo (e niuno è fuggito).	28 But Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying: “Do no harm to yourself, for we are all here!”
29 Onde elli (ciò udendo) fece venire un lume, ed entrando dentro (e trovandoli tutti), molto di ciò tremefatto, s' inginocchiò a Paulo e a Sila.	29 Then calling for a light, he entered. And trembling, he fell before the feet of Paul and Silas.
30 E menandoli fuori della prigione, sì li disse loro signori miei, che è bisogno che io faccia sì che io sia salvo?	30 And bringing them outside, he said, “Sirs, what must I do, so that I may be saved?”
31 Ed elli risposeno: credi in Iesù Cristo, e sarai salvo tu e la famiglia tua.	31 So they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and then you will be saved, with your household.”
32 E così dicendo li predicarono la fede.	32 And they spoke the Word of the Lord to him, along with all those who were in his house.
33 Onde elli incontanente credette, e ricevette il battesimo con tutta la sua famiglia; e (con grande pietà e devozione) lavò le piaghe di Paulo e di Sila.	33 And he, taking them in the same hour of the night, washed their scourges. And he was baptized, and next his entire household.
34 E menolli in casa sua, e diede loro mangiare e bevere; e allegrossi con tutta la sua famiglia, credendo (veramente) in Iddio.	34 And when he had brought them into his own house, he set a table for them. And he was joyous, with his entire household, believing in God.
35 E fatto che fu giorno, mandarono li magistrati (e gli uffiziali e) li giustizieri (della città e la famiglia loro) e dissenli lasciate andare via quelli uomini (cristiani li quali vi raccomandammo).	35 And when daylight had arrived, the magistrates sent the attendants, saying, “Release those men.”
36 La quale cosa dicendo elli a Paulo (e a Sila), inducevali che si partissero e andassero in pace.	36 But the prison guard reported these words to Paul: “The magistrates have sent to have you released. Now therefore, depart. Go in peace.”
37 Allora Paulo (arditamente) disse: poi che siamo pubblicamente battuti (ingiustamente) e senza colpa, e messi in prigione, essendo noi romani, ora ci vogliono scacciare (e liberare) occultamente? (Certo questa non è buona giustizia, e) non sarà così; ma vengano elli,	37 But Paul said to them: “They have beaten us publicly, though we were not condemned. They have cast men who are Romans into prison. And now they would drive us away secretly? Not so. Instead, let them come forward,
38 e (come pubblicamente ci misero in prigione come malefattori così pubblicamente) ci lìberino (come innocenti). Le quali parole essendo annunziate a quelli principi (e ufficiali), temettero molto udendo ch' erano romani.	38 and let us drive them away.” Then the attendants reported these words to the magistrates. And upon hearing that they were Romans, they were afraid.
39 E vennero a loro, e sì li pregorono che li piacesse loro di partirsi di quella città.	39 And arriving, they pleaded with them, and leading them out, they begged them to depart from the city.
40 Onde allora si partirono, e vennero a Lidia; e visitando li cristiani e fedeli, li confortorono (molto), e poi si partirono.	40 And they went away from the prison and entered into the house of Lydia. And having seen the brothers, they consoled them, and then they set out.
