| 1 Guarda che tu non offera a Dio tuo signore nè bue nè pecora, il quale abbia macchia (e varietà di colori) o vizio alcuno; imperciò che sarebbe abbo minazione a Dio tuo Signore. | 1 "You shall not sacrifice to the LORD your God an ox or a sheep in which is a blemish, any defect whatever; for that is an abomination to the LORD your God. |
| 2 Quando saranno trovati tra voi, tra una delle porte tue le quali ti darà Iddio tuo Signore, uomo o femina che faccia male innanzi a Dio tuo Signore, e trapassi il suo patto (cioè quello che hae ordinato), | 2 "If there is found among you, within any of your towns which the LORD your God gives you, a man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of the LORD your God, in transgressing his covenant, |
| 3 che (si partano e) vadano e servano agli dii altrui (cioè dell' altre genti) e poi gli adorino, e sole e luna e tutta la milizia del cielo, il quale io non hoe comandato; | 3 and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have forbidden, |
| 4 e questo ti sarà annunciato e detto, odilo e fanne inquisizione diligentemente; e se tu trovi che sia vero, e che sia fatta questa abbominazione in Israel, | 4 and it is told you and you hear of it; then you shall inquire diligently, and if it is true and certain that such an abominable thing has been done in Israel, |
| 5 menerai l'uomo o la ferina, i quali hanno commesso e fatto così scelerata cosa, alle porte della città tua; e saranno (lapidati e) morti colle pietre. | 5 then you shall bring forth to your gates that man or woman who has done this evil thing, and you shall stone that man or woman to death with stones. |
| 6 Al detto della bocca di due o di tre testimonii sarà ucciso quegli che dovrà essere morto. Non sia morto alcuno, (solamente) perchè sia uno testimonio il quale dica contro a lui. | 6 On the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses he that is to die shall be put to death; a person shall not be put to death on the evidence of one witness. |
| 7 La mano prima de' testimonii sì l'ucciderà; e poi tutto l'altro popolo apporrà la sua mano, acciò che questo obbrobrio e vituperio togli del mezzo di te. | 7 The hand of the witnesses shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So you shall purge the evil from the midst of you. |
| 8 Se tu vedi che ti sia grave di giudicare e malagevole tra uomo che abbia ferito e morto l'uno l'altro, o tra questione e questione, o tra lepra e lepra; e vederai che le parole di coloro, che abitano dentro dalle porte della città, sono varie (e non s'accordano insieme); lèvati suso, e va al luogo il quale eleggerà Iddio tuo Signore. | 8 "If any case arises requiring decision between one kind of homicide and another, one kind of legal right and another, or one kind of assault and another, any case within your towns which is too difficult for you, then you shall arise and go up to the place which the LORD your God will choose, |
| 9 E verrai ai preti della schiatta di Levi, e a quel giudice che sarà in quello tempo; e sì ne gli domanderai, e loro ti diranno la verità del giudicio. | 9 and coming to the Levitical priests, and to the judge who is in office in those days, you shall consult them, and they shall declare to you the decision. |
| 10 E tu farai ciò che ti diranno coloro che istanno (e sono) sopra ciò, dove eleggerà Iddio, e ammaestrerannoti | 10 Then you shall do according to what they declare to you from that place which the LORD will choose; and you shall be careful to do according to all that they direct you; |
| 11 secondo la sua legge (cioè di Dio); e tu farai (e seguiterai) secondo la loro sentenza, e non ti partirai nè dalla mano manca nè dalla diritta. | 11 according to the instructions which they give you, and according to the decision which they pronounce to you, you shall do; you shall not turn aside from the verdict which they declare to you, either to the right hand or to the left. |
| 12 Ma chi (per la via diritta non anderà, ma chi) si leverà in superbia, e non vorrà udire il comandamento del prete, il quale in quel tempo (sacrifica ed) è ministro dinanzi da Dio tuo Signore, e quel che terminerà il giudice, sarà morto quello uomo; e leverai il male da Israel. | 12 The man who acts presumptuously, by not obeying the priest who stands to minister there before the LORD your God, or the judge, that man shall die; so you shall purge the evil from Israel. |
| 13 E questo udendo, tutto il popolo averà paura, intanto che nullo poi si leverà in superbia. | 13 And all the people shall hear, and fear, and not act presumptuously again. |
| 14 E quando tu sarai entrato nella terra la quale Iddio tuo Signore ti darà, e sì la possederai e abiterai, e dirai: io voglio fare re sopra di me, siccome hanno tutte le altre nazioni (e le genti) che mi sono dintorno; | 14 "When you come to the land which the LORD your God gives you, and you possess it and dwell in it, and then say, 'I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are round about me'; |
| 15 fa che tu eleggi e facci sopra di te colui il quale Iddio eleggerà (e vorrà) del numero delli tuoi fratelli (che sono nel mezzo di te). Tu non potrai, dell' altra gente, uomo alcuno fare re (sopra di te), il quale [non] sia tuo fratello. | 15 you may indeed set as king over you him whom the LORD your God will choose. One from among your brethren you shall set as king over you; you may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. |
| 16 E poi ch' egli sarà fatto, non voglio che egli sì faccia nè multiplichi cavalieri; e non rime nerà il popolo in Egitto, perchè sia levato alto per numero (e moltitudine) di cavalieri, e specialmente conciosia cosa che Iddio sì vi comandò che voi per niuno modo debbiate tornare per quella via. | 16 Only he must not multiply horses for himself, or cause the people to return to Egypt in order to multiply horses, since the LORD has said to you, 'You shall never return that way again.' |
| 17 Non ci avrà ancora molte mogli, che volgano l'animo suo, nè d'argento nè d'oro troppo abbondanzia. | 17 And he shall not multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply for himself silver and gold. |
| 18 E poi che sarà (istato e) seduto in su la sedia del suo reame, egli si scriverà questo libro il quale si chiama DEUTERONOMIO, nel quale sien tutte leggi in uno volume, pigliando lo esempio da' preti della schiatta di Levi. | 18 "And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, from that which is in the charge of the Levitical priests; |
| 19 E sì l'avrà con esso seco, e leggerallo tutti i dì della vita sua, acciò che appari di temere Iddio suo Signore, e guardare le parole e le osservanze e i comandamenti che vi son dentro. | 19 and it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them; |
| 20 E non si lievi il suo cuore in superbia so pr' a' suoi fratelli, e non vada più da una parte che da un' altra, acciò che regni lungo tempo egli ed i figliuoli (suoi sopra] Israel. | 20 that his heart may not be lifted up above his brethren, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, either to the right hand or to the left; so that he may continue long in his kingdom, he and his children, in Israel. |
